Fun fact, in the original gen 4 games, the game would “save a lot of data” if you accessed the pc at any point in time before saving. You didnt even have to move pokemon around, just enter it and leave, but it would still take years extra to save for some reason
YES!! I figured that out back then Everytime I opened the PC I was like "...fuck..." Then I'd forget until I go to save and I'm like "FUCK!"

Very interesting. I've always wondered why at some points it doesn't say "saving a lot of data" whenever I've played for a lengthy amount of time.
@@literaryloser4470 It was the game checking to make sure you weren't using any hackmon.
I guess that's the reason why Gen V starts with only 8 boxes. It takes it less boxes to load so the game doesn't take as long to save.

@@ItzNiekoyo It certainly doesn't save space, the original one did because its save file was stored in the cartridge. BDSP wastes your Switch memory space now.

This made me appreciate the little loading dots in Gen 5 all the more...
Did you know that if you were saving your file in gen 5 using a dsi or dsixl and then you hold down the power button for a second to turn off the power in the middle of its saving process that the game will not turn off until it's done saving? You can also close the ds upon doing this and it still only turn off when it finish.

While screwing around with an AR as a kid, I encountered a glitch where the game froze in that mode, so my DSi was bricked until its battery died. Fun times.

When saving a lot of data, the old trainer got tired of waiting. We had to hire a new one.
That's why i use save states on DS emulator rather than the normal save, while playing Platinum.

When I was a kid I shut the DS midway through saving. It then proceeded to never stop saving and I had to turn it off, corrupting my data. As a kid I cried but I started anew as Lucas and am pretty happy with what child me did with more pokemon knowledge
The subtlety of using the same Pokemon Center is a nice touch :)

In the originals if you make a bunch of progress the window literally says "saving a lot of data"
But try saving as soon as you load your game, then it's faster.
Not as faster as the remakes, but yeah
The Diamond and Pear remakes are much faster than the originals, I will admit... but I also feel the battles have slowed down to an extent. I mean, sure the HP bar moves faster if a Pokémon gets knocked out in one hit, but between each turn, it kinda takes a lil too much time to process each trainer's actions.
I mean it took a lot of time between turns in Gen 4 too.
It was never just the HP, weather animations and move processing speed took ages back then.
Agreed, but that's how the mainline games have been for a while now.
It would save a lot of time if it played animations at the same time as showing the descriptive text, or by getting rid of the textbox appear and disappear animations, but BDSP has a tendency to softlock if you go through menus too fast, so it might be running at maximum speed already...
(For example; the video 'I softlocked myself in Pokemon BDSP by mashing A too fast', or the menu storage glitch that speedrunners are using.)

I always liked how your character in Gen IV would kneel in a dramatic pose whilst saving.
The remakes may have way better save times. But the originals can still connect to Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii.

I have Pokémon Platinum, and I can confirm that it takes a long time to save. The game is still amazing though.
Whenever I started a new game I would save right when I gain control of my character and it would already give that "a lot of data" message. It was horrific.

Okay, in all seriousness: does anyone actually know why the player's sprite kneeled while saving in the Gen 4 games? It always puzzled me.
As a kid I always thought the character was literally writing in a book to save. So they put the book on the ground and they were kneeling down to write in it. Maybe it was just to show they were reseting? Who knows what the actual intention was

Renegade Platinum 60fps hack completely fixes this and makes it about the same speed as the remake. (and has better gameplay, more mons, more QOL, more special battles, tm availability, better post game, platinum content, is free, etc)
