They actually fixed Flying Pokemon idle animations.
Never stop voicing criticism.
It only took 5 games and billions of dollars
I wonder when they give us the toggle back for EXP share and Battle mode...
The sad and pathetic part is that the same fans that were on the opposition, belittling those criticizing for a better product, are the ones benefiting and enjoying this as well. It just proves that they're slaves to a brand, will take literally anything, and can't think for themselves.

Why this channel is the best. Doesn't blindly consume anything GF creates and have horrible justifications for bad games " be greatful". As well as praising the games when they deserve praising and isn't just hating for the sake of hating. A real reviewer which is so rare these days
He was fast this time. 😯
He's a fake hypocrite
Still not buying this mediocre game because of the lack of a battle tower. They removed my one and only reason to beat the game to get to the post game. At this point I’ll just wait for a rerelease of a physical cartridge of scarlet and Violet with dlc on the cartridge and hopefully they add a battle facility in the dlc.
Pokemon should be grateful for the $60.
He gave the game too much credit, even in this review half is negative
Between this and Legends Arceus. The perfect Pokémon game is hiding.
I'm very hopeful for Pokémon's future.
it will never be made, because yall keep blindly buying EVERYTHING they put out
Gamefreak is a lazy company
That could be pokemon legends za
I didn't think it was possible to have *less* post game than usual. But GameFreak never fails to surprise.
Gamefreak seems to have just gotten rid of the pretense of pokemon postgame just being a step you take to accrue battle items for the real postgame of pvp. On one hand, no more obnoxious battle tower/tree sets that use terrible Sheer Cold RNG. On the other hand...no multi-battling together and against the characters of the game (me and Guzma vs Red and Blue back in Sun/Moon was hype asf).
@@joshuakim5240 …or because they can sell it as dlc
It still has significantly more than SwShit, but yeah. really underwhelming
i mean it's been this way since like gen 6 so im not surprised anymore..
Postgame for Pokemon is traditionally defined is what comes after kicking the League's ass.
I guess that technically makes the true ending for completing all 3 stories the postgame equivalent, but what after?
I really don't understand why they remove optional settings like that... Nobody would complain if they simply made Exp. Share and Switch Style the default but let us turn them off. Otherwise, I'm curious what they have in store in terms of DLC - I could easily see them make a few more of /those/ Pokémon (IYKYK). Guess we'll get more news about DLC around the time Home gets updated?
Piracy is the way.
I can at least understand exp share, the lack of set switch honestly feels unintentional. If I actually had to imagine, it might be because the time it takes to tell you the next pokemon coming up gives the game more time to load it in.
The ability to skip move animations also got removed, which makes even less sense and kind of cements the probably behind the scenes reasoning for them.
it's weird cause there are a bunch of new settings designed to make things quicker for the player
@@spectrallogic pokemon logic. A few steps forward a few steps backward. they always take something. This entry i feel we won a lot of great additions, but we lost the set mode which is a big deal, and I can see how no animations was important for people that didnt want to look at them after a while, or wanted to gtet through the game faster.
I don’t understand why they removed enhancements while improving on other stuff. They litterally take one step forward and 1-2 back. The games fun but the battling is less immersive than it used to be. I never thought the battling would feel meh when arceus did it right. Frame rate is unacceptable however. I would have never purchased this game but I skipped out on 2 generations.
I’m glad you posted an early review. I don’t have issues with critics normally but Pokemon reviews never end up lining with what I enjoy. This sounds like a good Pokemon game hidden under a technical mess caused by a rushed schedule. Hoping mods/patches fix it but this sounds fun.

I do not understand the removal of the Set option. That made it more apparent that they tailored the games towards people with little RPG experience.
With that said, I'm glad to hear the game is at least pretty good. I'm still a little soured on Pokemon these days, but hey, you never know. I MIGHT have a look at them one day.
I actually think it's more behind the scenes. The game has a lot of technical downtime in battles and I think they force the switch option because that gives the game more time to load in the next pokemon. They'd rather have people complain about the games being easier, which is a minority of people, than actual technical issues.
That seems to be the main theme of this release. The rpg part of the series was heavily axed in favor of the pick up and play open world aspect
It doesn't change anything. Why remove it??? It's literally set to shift by default, some people don't even know set is a thing, yet they force you to play like a 10 year old kid? So ridiculous

Literally the only channel I trust with a Pokémon review
There are a few others I'd trust - Arlo was pretty direct with his own thoughts on Sw/Sh, even if he didn't take Game Freak to task like DistantKingdom did.
But DK is definitely up on the top there. He's neither a shill nor a blind hater; he's just a passionate fan of the series who wasn't gonna let that "high quality animations" lie slide by without giving it the thrashing it deserves.
DistantKingdom is literally the only Poketuber I bother with nowadays. He's the only one that gives the facts, points out the flaws, and still will find the good in a otherwise cash grab game all the while being realistic. Respect.
Not getting it, mainly because of multiple visual issues I've seen so far, as long as those aren't solved. Things like characters clipping in and out of existance, object pop in, shadows disappearing at random and the camera issues really look like they would ruin the immersion for me and that's what I'm looking for the most in a game. Also find it hard to go back to these stiff battle animations.
Exactly! I don’t understand how people can be okay with with the lackluster animations including the Pokémon standing Idle as opposed to moving when attacking. They had this fixed in Arceus! What the logic here? Oh the fans won’t notice us taking a step back. It pisses me off so much so that I don’t know if I can even enjoy myself. @@firenze6478 that’s absolutely not true, there’s a great number of people who dislike several aspects of this game. Game freak just doesn’t care to change things because it doesn’t affect sales. I have been paying attention.
From what I've seen it's somewhat what I expected. Expands a lot on the concepts experimented on in the past few games but is ultimately noticeably held back by a lack of technical polish due to the brutal pokemon release timeline and stubbornness to expand the team to a level which a franchise of this popularity and release schedule should honestly have
this game looked like a game back in the 2000s, it literally looked like pokemon colosseum or pokemon gale of darknesss. this game is evolving only back wards.
I expected to not have exp share toggle, but having battle style permanently set to switch is going to be a pain in the ass, since I don't think I can mod my switch
It is very annoying
Especially since ur forced to spam b if u don’t want to switch for ever battle by this point I will use it because either way Pokémon ain’t hard and set mode doesn’t really help to make it harder at least by that much tho competitive is forced to set so ever there going to add it anyways why remove it ??? Makes 0 since
Emulation is an option and already runs about the same as the game would natively on Switch. Give it some time (probably a month or two) and it will be running better than the Switch ever could.
Patches on the other hand, no idea how long those will take to come around.
Ok now I'm hyped. It's been such a conflicting experience waiting up until it's release. My thoughts on wanting it to be good but also having expectations be in the dirt. I'm glad that gamefreak has finally gotten its act together somewhat. This bodes well for future games since they can improve upon this.
Yah... If they just fix a few other issues like the Mandatory EXP Share, then I might just buy the game! I've been skipping out on the past few Pokemon games since they've just been soulless cash grabs, but hopefully, this game will actually be good!
Same. I´ve been watching the 20 hour livestream of reeetard-kun´s first playthrough, and been playing it for 21 hours on emulator until now.
If we take in account the amount of time you can sink into this game for fun, and how expensive literally anything has become, its an okay deal for the time we can spend on it. Literally, i costs around 55 bucks for 2 people watch a movie at the cinema with snacks&drinks. And thats 2-3 hours at most.
So im kinda happy to get it tomorrow, seeing as between that, God of War Ragnarök and WoW:Dragonflight i wont have anything to play until May rolls around with Zelda...
I dont trust gamefreak, they will remove good things they added in this game because they are DUMB. 1 step forward, 2 steps back should be their freaking motto.
Oh my, I'm reading this exact comment since X and Y. Fans now have so low expectations that a little fix is enough to convince them to buy the game
Except that Koraidon continues to sucks when you ride it.
Just a note, the affection mechanic isn't from BDSP, it's been around since Sun and Moon
It's been around since X and Y, Sylveon requires affection to evolve
Yes, but affection and friendship were merged into one stat starting with Let's Go
So you could essentially ignore the effects in the old games, now you can't.
Just like the mandatory EXP share. Obstinate Game Freak at their worst in this draconian Switch era.
And of course they removed the National Dex... like it's all just Ls for the consumers but they'll never change because everyone still buys them without even thinking.
As someone that's not particularly fond of open world games myself, it's neat to hear you disclaimer on that regard. Aside from that though, just about everything I hear about these games makes them sound like they did a great job on the more fluffy charm aspect, but are going to have a lot of mechanical/gameplay elements that're going to be frustrating in one way or another.
Man that battle style on shift only really took the wind out of my sails.

Yea me too. I like Pokemon because I want to bond with monster characters and care for them! I’m not playing Pokemon for a challenge, so I don’t really care if the affection points make the game easier or not. I get that some people play the game for the battles and strategy, so some of the changes can be disappointing. But tbh there’s no wrong way to enjoy a game, like I think Pokemon is trying to cater more to the “monster-raising/friendships” aspect of the world. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
I was expecting your opinion on this one, and I did anticipate a positive but objective reception. The only bad thing is that I'll miss your High Quality animations videos haha. Great video!
Can’t wait to get it tomorrow. This looks like what Swsh could’ve been. Hopefully there’re updates for it.
I feel like this game could use level scaling like in botw where every mile stone increases the level in order to enhance difficulty at least to where your not steamrolling the game
Next gen should have this at least I hope
The open world elements are a nice changup, but there is a huge amount of room for improvement
It made sense in botw but i feel like level scaling would be immersion breaking in pokemon
Lev scaling suck. You will lose the incentive to lev since enemies get stronger along with your Pokémon
@@neberboi but hear me out that means you can fully do things your way uniquely I like that cuz this now is cool but if it was scaled we could do a lot more
It's a small step for the Pokemon franchise. But when you step outside the box, and look at nearly any other RPG or Open World game on the market; you realize just how far behind it is... and that's the problem.
Praise for improvement, but I think it's fair to say; this isn't enough, considering what they stand to gain in exchange for minimal effort.

-Forced shift battle style
-NO battle tower
-Framerate issues and buggy cameras
-(Still) Forced exp share
Wtf, really wanted to get this game, but now I’m really on the fence.

My complaints exactly
I think no battle tower and forced shift mode does it for me. I actually really wanna buy the games, the gameplay looks good and the nostalgia is hitting so hard again, bun man I've seen the elite 4 battles and they're all just in the same room with blue plates on the wall. Dunno it just looks soo so low effort, I really can't justify the 70€ for that shit. Its still so baffling to me that the largest and most popular franchise on the planet releases such low quality games :/
Which is what throws me off with these games. I don't expect the good reviews or praise but here they are.
@@j3nki541 I really wanted to buy the game too, but I will at least hold off on until it gets patched (IF it gets patched). Then, if the DLC is REALLY good, maybe just MAYBE I will buy the game secondhand at a lesser price plus the DLC, because this is not worth the price of a full game. In the meantime, I am playing White 2 on emulator, and it really does have a charm that the more recent 3D games lack.
Just change your team up when you feel you’re overleveled. Exp share is an opportunity to have a team of more than just 6 pokemon.
Thank you for the review, its extremely helpful for someone like myself, who is on the opposite side of the fence, looking for even a reason to be on the fence. I've been let down too many times, and I need to be wowed by the Pokemon company before I even think about giving them another dollar. Sadly, a lot of the criticisms about this game are a lot of the reason I had so much trouble with the last few, glitches and bugs happen but most of these could be fixed if they gave it some more time in the oven and weren't trying to hit a window for sales. As much as I like the new texture is on Pokemon and the way that something's look, I know if I were to buy this game I would just be overwhelmingly annoyed at the constant frustrations, bugs, loss of options, gimmicks, and all around presentation of this new generation of Pokemon games. I really want to get back into pokemon, but I think it's better for me and my wallet if I refuse until they make me feel excited. I need to feel the way I do about some of Nintendo's other franchises, like Kirby or breath of the wild or Splatoon. I'm at the point where they have to dig themselves out of the hole they made. But still, thank you so much for the honest review.

I'm actually really, really considering getting Scarlet. Massive DLC next year. But I wont be surprise if they announce Lets Go Johto or BW by ILCA with it lol
Literally every Pokémon game since gen 5 has suffered from being rushed. For the anniversary, I don’t think SM was rushed, but for the games afterwards it’s always been rushed.
I wish they’d let the devs work in better conditions
@@ma.2089 It's not just the new games, the old games have visible signs of being incomplete as well. BW is the only one where I can't find something obvious. Here's a short list of features
RB: Massive amount of glitches, terrible sprites
GS: Kanto is very empty and missing multiple locations from gen 1. They have a good excuse, that being the memory limit of a gameboy cartridge, but I would still call this incomplete.
RS: Only 200 Pokemon available (first Dexit), the story with only one evil team makes no sense, especially in ruby, and the shortest postgame ever. People roast SM and SwSh for having little postgame, but the original RB have way less than both of them.
DP: Terrible performance issues
BW: I can't think of anything major.
XY: Performance issues again, especially in battles with more than 2 Pokemon
SM: Everything after returning from ultraspace seems unfinished. The last trial is just 3 battles with no puzzles and victory road is completely empty.
SwSh: Very limited access to the wild area, bad graphics.
@@ma.2089 Nah, SM were definitely rushed. There were visibly unfinished locations all over the place and Ohmori even admitted in an interview that they were scrambling to implement the Island Trials during the debug stage of development with no time to flesh them out.
A lot of the pre-release complaints people had turned out to be non-issues in practice.
-Yes, they do pull the "friendly rival" thing, where she takes the mon weak to yours, but honestly, that really only matters for the first battle. After that, you have access to such a variety that it doesnt matter. Also, she's a former champion who's just doing this for fun, and is a well written character unlike Hau or Hop.
-The school is more of a full blown academy than than an elementary school like some people were thinking (and is actually super interesting to explore)
-The lack of level scaling means that gym leaders can have more focused strategies that wouldnt work at different levels
-The lack of level scaling also means that there are actual hard areas to go into and you wont end up steamrolling the whole game if you end up overleveled (a serious issue with more linear pokemon games)
-Trainer battles being optional to where you need to initiate them works in an open world setting, since they'd be easy to avoid regardless. And running from them (while still causing you to forfeit money like a wipe)
-Autobattle works because wild battles and trainer battles are fundamentally different things, and in order to keep trainer battles complex, without making wild battles tedious, autobattle is a great solution for clearing out the hoards of wild mons. Also, the main incentive of battling wild pokemon is to collect their drops, which means that youre much more likely to at least autobattle instead of just run from every encounter.
-AUTO-BATTLE WILL NOT KILL SHINYS. In fact, its a great way to shiny check mons with subtle shinies or new pokemon that you didnt know about.
When people talked about leveling scaling they meant battles like gym leader not wild Pokémon aside from that everything else you said is “let me tell you why gamefreak not putting in any effort made the game better”
@@jimmyjohn6479 How does most of what I said have to do with effort?
It's a little sad that we have to wait for modders to fix GF's game, but it's good to hear that there is stuff to look forward to in this one!
In the words of Todd Howard: "It just works!"
I was really reluctant to give S&V a chance but hearing you, DistantKingdom, give it such praise. It is actually making me change my mind.
Nah I am not going to support a lazy game made by lazy devs, the game shipped with incomplete elite four ost and a bunch of performance issues, and needed a day one patch to add balance changes to the game which all of this should’ve already been in the base game, but due to time constraints they arn’t able to effectively make a good open world Pokémon game, aslong as gamefreak continues to get less time to develop the games I will continue to not support a company that continues to give the devs less time to work on them because open world Pokémon games require 4-5 years of development at the bareminimum. Scarlet and Violet only got 2-3 years of development which isn’t enough for an open world Pokémon game. I am going to vote with my dollar and not buy this game, I don’t want to support a franchise where the developers are given less time to work on each new title. Unless they return to making traditional style Pokémon games I personally won’t be buying any of there garbage open world games. That’s not even mentioning the lack of a battle tower, that alone is a reason not to buy the game.
@@GodSlayer330 the incomplete OST will be fixed though, at least that’s what’s been said. Performance issues are a big deal though and those will hopefully be addressed soon.
@@OrnelasRamosJose yes it will be fixed by a day one patch but the base game on the cartridge will always remain incomplete, so nothings really changed outside of the fact that you downloaded software to fix the incomplete base game you are recieving at launch, I am not supporting them or buying there games. I do not believe that a game should require a day one patch to fix itself, that is proof of a troubled development cycle that they can’t continue to endure so I won’t be buying an incomplete game at launch. Hopefully if they create dlc they end up releasing a cartridge with the dlc inside the cart with all of the extra updates already included on the actual cartridge which shouldn’t require any extra downloads. If you collect games physically like I do then this is a major deal because fans are being scammed with an incomplete product straight out of the box, the cart is incomplete.
@@GodSlayer330 question weren't you used to be with people who defended gen 8 a lot obsessively???
@@niteriemcfarlane5285 no why?
This game was actually insanely good, and other than visual issues, the open world feels amazing, and it almost doesn’t hold your hand ever (except for the tutorial and before a star base)
I think I’m in the same boat as you, I am enjoying the game so far, but I do understand the major MAJOR issues that the have.
My issue is that it’s clearly rushed due to the performance and there still no voice acting.
Other wise the gameplay is alright, it’s what I was expecting honestly.
this game may not be perfect, but this is a HUGE upgrade from sword and shield, and gen 10 might be next to perfect
So far, the main problem I see with the game is the performance. It's pretty bad. There is a part in the game where you are with a bunch of Sunflora, and the framerate drops to like 10 fps. I would suggest to pick this game up once they fully patch it.
I am not going to buy a game that requires a day one patch to fix itself. I want the full complete product on the cartridge and if they can’t deliver that then that’s just a consequence of creating open world Pokémon game under strict development time of 3 years. Gamefreak should stop creating open world Pokémon games if they are going to continue with the 3 year development cycle that the games are getting. Open world games require atleast 4-6 years of development. Gamefreak is biting off more then they can chew. Unless they can request additional development time they shouldn’t be creating anymore open world Pokémon games. Also the lack of a battle tower is yet another reason why I will be considering to not buy the game. The fact that elite four theme is incomplete and requires a day one patch to get fixed is also another reason I won’t be buying the game, the fact that game needs an update to balance itself which was never a thing in the 3ds and ds era of Pokémon games is yet another reason I won’t be supporting this incomplete base game. No nat dex. No buy. That is the bare minimum for me at this point.
Same
It definitely seems like an upgrade from SwSh but it bothers me to even praise that low bar. I'll be buying it 'used' locally again like all my other Pokemon games recently. I want to play it and see for myself, but these games aren't worth $90CAD and I don't want to inflate the sale numbers--I'm petty 😎
Getting it second hand is the best decision I’ve made
Appreciate the small review and yeah it seems to improve, but I'm still not convinced a bit.
This is good to hear. I was a bit apprehensive about getting the game, but now I feel better. I think as fans of the franchise we have a duty to level criticism towards the games, especially when companies like game freak have ignored us for so long.
I really hope they add voice acting to future games. I think would be a significant improvement and make some of the cutscenes feel less stupid.
I actually do not want voice acting for Pokémon. If this is what it takes for Pokémon to look this good and stop the hovering Pokémon and other obvious polish, then I do not want polished Pokémon at all.
It is nice to have said stuff, but it seems really clear that they are going to focus on these to the detriment of what made Pokémon Pokémon.
@@iantaakalla8180 They could do something like DQ11, where they added Voice acting, but there was the option to turn it off if you wanted the more “classic” feel.
As the biggest gamefreak critic i know you saying the games are "kinda nice" is definitely the small push I needed to be super excited about these games
The lack of national dex, the lack of physical contact, the lack of arceus capture mechanic, the forced EXP share, as well as locking battle styles and the incoming aggressive DLC monetesation on top of it prevent me from wanting to have anything to do with it.
I'll save my money and buy Digimon World Next 0rder on Switch come February.
They still do forced exp share and dexcuts for no reason.
Oh my god, I hadnt been excited about a pokemon game in so long. I want to play it so much! Finally a decent over all pokemon game on 3D
I still don't get how the Switch can run The Witcher 3 can run at 30fps 90% of the time and Diablo 3 can run at locked 60, but Gamefreak can't optimize to hit consistent 30.
Dude, you earned my sub. You mentioned the good, the bad and the ugly without hate or being overly negative on the game flaws. Keep up the good work.
The lack of Milotic has also left a sour taste in my mouth. The mermaid had been part of my main teams since 2003.
“One of gamefreaks better looking games” is very hard to agree with. I think this looks leaps worse than sword and shield or legends arceus. Great fun game though
This doesn’t feel like it’s aged well in the past *checks* two days.
Thank you so much! Haven't watched it yet because I'm super busy, but this ties in with my appreciation - so happy you've kept it under 10 minutes, like for real!!! And I can simply listen to it!!!
4:43 I'll never get over how hilariously shitty this animation looks. Most profitable video game IP, everyone.
Now they removed 2 options? Ouch!
Next thing you know, they're probably gonna remove text speed and just make it miserable slow.
"it'll get patched, i promise!"
Also I think terrastalizing looks like shit, it's just your pokemon wearing the same goofy hats with no new forms
Day One patch only added the online functionality and some other minor stuff. No performance/glitch patches; was known even before release. Felt the performance critique was too light compared to what they deserved, but somehow, even with the atrocious performance, the game is still one of the most enjoyables in a long time apart from PLA.
i saw reports of it addressing frame rate issues, but maybe they were mistaken
I just want a challenging Pokémon game 🥺
Look at hacks if you want challenge, or play against other people
I would add some other problems, like the fact that there is no scaling for the gyms and bosses so you can easily miss for example the first gym e get to it when your pokemon are 3 times stronger, also I can personally confirm there are "softlocks" and also a system to save yourself from them by teleporting you to the poke center after getting your position reset by the game 5 times in a few seconds
The thing I want the most in this game is to finally be able to use my Shiny Greninja that is sitting in pokemon Home for years again, Greninja is not availiable in ANY of the Switch pokemon games and I don't know why, I know pokemons need to be cut now but starters are probably the pokemon people will want to transfer the most so I feel like they should always be in the games
Honestly, didn’t even know what Set battles were until I started hearing complaints about its removal. Though I also don’t mess with settings to much so that’s definitely a me problem. Still, seems really bizarre to remove modes/functions like that.
I just arrived at Mesagoza and I’m already exhausted by the low performance. I’m excited to continue playing but I just wish GF had more time to optimize the performance issues.
Im sorry to disappiont you, but the state of the game is WITH the day one patch. Thats why its called day ONE patch not day 30 something patch… Well maybe there will be another patch 🙃
My guy he got an early copy this was before the day 1 patch
I WISH that the pokemon you sent out actually stayed out and didnt return after taking 6 steps away from them.
It is as though they listened to constructive criticism or something
I just finished the game. I hated the first 5 hours of gameplay because my game abruptly shut off, and the glitches were unacceptable. I almost raged quit actually. But after that, I got use to the glitches and actually started enjoying the game
this is best review for the game ive seen. you acknowledged the bugs without throwing out the entire game because of it! so many reviews just focus on the slow frame rates and give it 1/10. They completely ignore just how surprisingly good the actual game is. Thank you so much for such an honest thorough review
I waited buying until you reviewed, your one of my favourite Pokémon reviewers and I’m so glad.
Hope that by the time I have time to play the glitches are fixed
Was thinking of just skipping this game, but aside from tyrantrum, most of my favorites make it into the regional dex, which is pretty epic. Might have to pick this one up eventually.
why arent people talking more about how every city is empty...you cant enter any house, most npcs arent interactable and the ones that are say 1 line, do nothing and barely give you any items or even sidequests (like arceus).
I've been positive basically this entire reveal/release cycle, and it looks like Game Freak actually fixed/improved a LOT of things. Super excited to get my hands on this (and hopefully they fix the performance issues).
I remember, after the release of Sword and Shield, I said to myself that the EXP share not being able to be turned off was as stupid as them removing the switch/set option. Now they've done that too, proving they learnt absolutely nothing from the disaster of gen 8, except that they have to put slightly more effort into the graphics. It really doesn't matter how much they improve the minor aesthetic issues, if the core gameplay mechanics are still gimped to prevent you from actually having any semblance of difficulty. At this point, it genuinely feels like Gamefreak hates the players that want to play their games any other way then how they think you should. What kind of developer actively removes the player's ability to choose how difficult they want the game to be? It's one thing for Gamefreak to not bother to put in the effort of having actual difficulty options, as they've never really done that in older games, but actively removing options that have been standard in basically all previous games is just bafflingly stupid. They saw the people complaining about this issue in all the gen 8 games and really went "Hmm this really annoyed people that we removed options from the older games. Lets remove even more!" I don't know if I can bring myself to support this game when Gamefreak continues to do more of the stuff that I hate and doesn't bring back any of the stuff I want. I consider the EXP share problem, dexit, mandatory affection increase, and the lack of mega evolutions to be deal breakers for me to even begin to consider a Pokémon game good. These are core issues that ruin the gameplay experience of every game where they are present, at least to some degree, and must be fixed ASAP. Otherwise, the best this game can hope to manage for me is a "Less shit that Sword and Shield and BDSP"/10. Thanks, as always, for the actually helpful review content.
^
This is how I feel exactly, though I’d get the game if they just allowed us to turn off exp share or switch mode
@@firenze6478 Oh yeah that's definitely the biggest issue for me too. The other stuff is more to do with competitive then the single player content and I could at least properly enjoy the game if it didn't basically play itself. I'm just saying that I consider not removing key features from previous titles to be my minimum standard before I could consider the game to be objectively good, compared to previous titles.
@@JaimieSch I agree, I was just saying that’s all it would take for me to at least buy it. ( but at this point this is also all I dare to hope for.)
I genuinely think fans praising this and Arceus have not touched another JRPG before, their standards are way too low.
Let's be honest, Pokemon standards have been way too low since Gen 6
That has to be the case, or haven't even played another game besides pokemon at all.
Despite the flaws and glitches, Im having a blast. Already finished all storylines. Lets keep voicing out our criticism
Will be waiting for that full review, thank you for this video in the meantime, DK!
I won't be getting the game myself, the minor inconveniences of performance issues, taking away improvements Arceus made like capture mechanics and physical battle contact, a pretty poor looking environment in a lot of places (great for Pokemon standards, but those are very low against any other game), and story beats not being able to scale with you if you do them in a different order, all kind of pile up for me into bigger problems. It's a step in the right direction, but not far enough for me to come back yet.
The Pokemon themselves have never looked better though and that was one of my main complaints for a long while, they look much more alive and exist more believably in their environments from what I've seen, I know Charizard gets a lot of attention already but that new model was AMAZING, and I'm hopeful looking towards the future of Pokemon, but still cautious.
If anyone is reading that is looking for a different monster capturing game to fill the void Pokemon has left for many, myself included, I'd recommend Coromon and Monster Hunter Stories 2! Both amazing games with a lot of love and passion put into them!
I recently learned that gamefreak's total staff count is 169. TOTAL. Not just animators or programmers, EVERYONE. Given a three year time crunch, with no delays. Thats disgusting. TPC is out here making all their money off of Pikachu plushies while not caring about the games that made them successful in the first place. This is why I hate the term "lazy devs". Problems like this are almost always a result of executive decisions, not the developers. TPC should be dissolved into Nintendo proper, GameFreak should be better staffed and given more time to actually work on stuff, and games should be delayed when necessary.
I dont even get why Scarlet and Violet wasnt delayed since we dont really have any supplementary material released alongside them. The gen 8 anime isnt even over yet!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've been missing Pokemon for a long time, but Game Freak just made it so hard to justify at full price. I might actually play a new Pokemon game again.
Reviewer: The games are great, but performance sucks
Gamefreak: So what you sayin is the games are great? 🤗
Pokemon deserves better developers.
I'll just buy it on sale, the performance really is a death sentence right now
This is a pretty good game. I experienced a t pose glitch at the beginning as well as my arm leaving out of existence during a cutscene but I do see a 9/10 game here. Game freak please fix these issues. This is as fun as BOTW!
My thought/s :
- I really really love how they have nature doc style pokedex pictures. It makes the pokemon felt more animal like and alive.
- Like you mention, I love the play with Pokemon textures. I can't believe I said this but I actually love Finneon now with the makeover and I don't like how they make Luvdisc's scale so giant compared to it's body.
- The environment is gorgeous and it felt homey to me. Nothing beats ORAS Foretree city houses tho 😏.
- When I saw the leaks about how they got rid of battle option, I thought it was set to "Set" like PLA but I was wrong.
- This is a bit spoiler.
I actually don't like the auto healing feature. Let me decide my own.
That's probably the only things I can think of. I'll add more in the future once the hype died down.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope it gets fixed in a patch soon, very common for open world games to have fps issues. However if it doesn't get fixed... Yikes.

I’m honestly curious what gen 10 will bring to the table. Expanded open world? Maybe but I guess that’s in a long time in the mean time we wait for dlc
Fair review, thanks for sharing; couldn't disagree more. These minor improvements are the bare minimum most franchises would consider when succeeding a previous title. Performance was worse than Arceus, graphics were equally as bad. An embarrassing mess in terms of presentation. As the media in which video games deliver an experience continues to evolve, these pokemon games fall further and further away from acceptable standards with respect to accessible means. Animations still non-existent for basic things (NPCs popping into rooms), NPCs still cannot walk diagonally, black screen or cuts instead of animating a scene, clipping into everything, janky NPCs walking at 2 FPS, lazy battle animations. Relative to other pokemon console titles, gameplay was better but not enough to be immersive when at every turn presentation was undermining everything. GameFreak can release whatever garbage they want, I'm not a consumer so no bother to me. Sure would be interesting to see a proof of concept demo of a pokemon game made by a competent AAA studio though.
Tried the online myself with some buddies and it worked suuuuper well. You can all go do your own thing and group up whenever. It's awesome.
So they say they want us to play pokemon the way we want they don't want to add difficulty settings yet they will make it easier for you and force you to play the way they want you 2.
Also to be mentioned, I found that if you get into a softlock in terms of getting stuck in a single moving position, there is actually a fail-safe feature to displace you back to traversable ground.
I would have bought it if not for the 20 minute battle timer. Back to showdown for me
While I am getting the game tomorrow, I hope they fix the performance issues. It was pointed out a few months that the Japanese version of the trailers had better overall performance than the trailers in English, so maybe they were just playing with an updated version. But one can only hope.
It feels like an incomplete game, maybe in a beta stage, there are some good ideas thrown around but it just feels it needed more time and it could have been a decent one
i feel like someone at gamefreak was listening to your videos, so much seems to have been fixed but especcially idle animations, and the pokemon that are soaring feel like they are instead of just floating
If you said that these games were bad I was gonna riot and say we are a toxic community because these look good, and seem to be made with some amount of love at least
The only thing I didn't like was that they said you could "Choose your adventure" and could branch out in 3 paths, but it was still somewhat pretty linear. You can't just follow one path, then another. You have to do all 3 at the same time, or you're locked out of certain areas or find yourself severely underlevelled.
If we went from sun and moon straight to this, then I guarantee there wouldn't have been nearly as much controversy over the dex cut. This is what we wanted instead of sword and shield.
