Thank you for that. I have been struggling with the Bishop g5 and it is very simple to solve. Fantastic tips on development and strategies on attacking.
I think it's incredibly profound and a testimony to Hikarus chess knowledge that he can teach younger and more inexperienced chess players "themes" and "ideas" rather than being like 99% of every chess teacher I have had who just drones on about theory and positions.

But im afraid to play because i feel like i'd still be bad at it despite watchin the streams, and i dont wanna disappoint GM Hikaru because He's such a great educator. 😂
You will be bad. Just get over it and play. When I got interested in chess I threw myself into OTB (slow) tournaments right away. Lost something like 37 games out of 50 in the first couple months.
That player played 96 percent accuracy ONLY against Hikaru on THAT particular game, all his other accuracy across the board are way lower. Not to mention that account was only weeks old and hasn't been played on again for over a month. Seems like a surf to me... and what's the point, Hikaru was playing unrated to help teach others. Not like you can ever even brag to your peers if no one knows its you. No one like that will bring up their account name knowing others will accuse it of being suspicious.
So you said that you don't recommend the modern defense for players and you seemed pretty adamant about that. But as a player at a more intermediate level (I would like to think) with a modern course and an alright grasp on the opening ideas, should I switch over to mainly playing a different opening or stick to the modern?
He was talking about beginners, and mainly the failure to realize that pawn breaks are key in that opening to get play and avoid being crushed. Also the guy didn't seem to realize he needs to play Nh6 to get Knight in the game and to go to f5. That comes into play in the Caro as well. You need to know the resources and typical moves for set ups in the openings you play, and the modern has advanced concepts that aren't immediately obvious.
It's fortunate for beginners that Hikaru likes to teach chess basics. And fortunate for Hikaru that there are so many perpetual beginners for him to stream to!
His account is authorized and their Elo is refunded. Though it certainly does waste the opponent's time, it also does help educate and entertain thousands of people.
