I was always confused by the bad reception Crash of The Titans received even though it was actually very ambitious. It was just so different from every previous entry in the series but still felt like a crash game. The Levels and environments were interesting and had good platforming, the combat was awesome (Though when u fully upgrade Crash, he becomes too OP, especially with the infinite spin attack and the instant jack kick), the music was great, the animations were superb and crash's controls felt fluid and smooth af, the story was excellent, the character models were awesome (Except for Tiny) and the characters themselves were very interesting and very well executed (Again, except for Tiny). So I think I would give this game a 7.5/10 because it is better than a 7 but not an 8.
the combats not awesome it does get repetitive but its a childrens beat em up game its not meant to be hard, they could remake it today with a more in depth combat system, imagine a dmc esque COTT itd be so fun

I don't think Crash of the Titans was that hated... it just wasn't as loved as the originals... and controversy hits harder for a series like Crash than average. And I get that the overall angle of taking after the classics in Crash 4 is safer, and generally more fun, but I'm glad to see more people expressing positivity for Crash of the Titans lately. I'll even give Mind Over Mutant some credit, it does certain things well, like making Crash, himself, feel more confident and capable even among the mutants, and improving the platforming side of things. They clearly loved what they were doing, and what they did need to work on, I don't doubt they would have gotten better. But no game is perfect, and this one deserves its share of the credit. This, also, is one of my favorite Crash games.
Mind over mutant had a lot going for it at the beginning, but I found that it felt very rushed. Like they had bigger plans, but had to start throwing things away unceremoniously. Like how most of the characters just disappear without a trace. They also had egregious levels of padding. Like that part of the game where you had to go all the way across the map just to get a single Monster who could go through an obstacle that was in front of you. (It's been a while, I can't remember specific names and whatnot) It's a shame, I felt like mind over mutants improved over a lot of Crash of the Titans shortcomings, but also needed a lot more work.

Titans has always been such an interesting case. As a huge Crash fan, I actually really enjoyed the game when it first came out. It even holds some of my favorite designs of the characters in the whole series (Coco, Uka, and Cortex). At the same time though I completely understand why people feel the way they do about it. Reactions can be knee-jerk and never change because they don't give it the time. As an example, I stayed away from watching Be Cool Scooby Doo for years because it just didn't look good. I've been a fan and defender of this game since it came out, but I have to question you here. Of all the character designs in the game that you could pick as their best depiction in the series, you pick ugly square-headed Coco for your top 3? C'mon, man.
I think you hit the nail on the head in this review. Like you said, Crash of the Titans may not be what fans wanted, but it was the shake up the series needed at the time. I personally enjoyed Titans, it's not all I would've wanted the series to be going forward, but I enjoyed it for what it was.
Yeah, for all people diss the post-Naughty Dog games for not being 'Crash' enough, people forget that was an era where platforming wasn't doing great. It's not fair to compare it against N Sane Trilogy and Crash 4 because by then Crash was 'nostalgic' and platformers were an obvious big seller again. Anytime Crash went to the old formula back then it got the same resounding 'meh', that Crash was getting old and had to freshen things up. The Titans games aren't a gold standard for Crash and yeah they made too many changes for the sake of it, but looking back, I think they were a nice self contained attempt at something fresh and new for Crash, sure get things back on track afterwards, but they're not something to be ashamed of. Hell I think there's some cool things to take notes from if they patched them up to work with Crash's normal style.
Subbed. I always enjoyed this game, the gameplay ideas were clever with the titans being part of a "food chain hierarchy" that you mentioned around 4 minutes in. I didn't mind the redesigns too much, I was only 8 when this game came out and that's also when I played it so I didn't know better. However, Tiny was indeed weird. Some of the retcons like Wumpa Island replacing N. Sanity Island were a shame to see but oh well. Crash Of The Titans was definitely always over hated and it was a fresh gameplay experience to the platforming we were getting before. However, I enjoyed the humour in Twinsanity more but as we say, humour is subjective.
Crash of the titans was always a good game for me and one of things I really enjoyed was the coop I even played with one of my big brothers to the end because of how fun we had with coop and one game mechanic of that mode I like was the switch of players that happened in each platform section.
Its wild to me that the mutant duo of games werent received well, as i enjoyed them so much growing up. I had played crash prior, and this shake up was so needed for me, after twinsanity and wrath of cortex Especially the sequel, woth how much love went into the cutscenes with different styles Such great times!
Really good video. I really liked this game back when I played it on the PSP, and I don't think it deserves such hate, especially since the series has seen far worse.
I like how your one of the few people who sees the good elements of Titans. It's a 6/10 type of deal but it has every right standing on the better side of the crash franchise. I'm gonna share your video as I believe that this is a must watch for crash fans
Subversion for the sake of subversion has always made me roll my eyes. This game did... alright at mixing things up while keeping it in line with "Crash". That's about as much praise as I can give it haha
I remember my 4th birthday as my dad bringing a playstation 2 from the store with Crash bandicoot mind over mutants and gta san andreas. i was the happiest kid ever
It's funny for me. Twinsanity was my first Crash game and i didn't go back to the original games until after I played Crash of the Titans. So I love both of those games.
Thank you for talking about the game's mechanics rather than telling us the plotline all over again. Too many damn "reviewers" have such a bad habit of explaining Crash's origin story before talking about the main subject.
COTT was actually the first Crash game I ever played, and I frikkin loved it! The fun beat em up gameplay and hilarious dialogue won me over instantly, and I'm still pretty fond of it to this day! ^^
I never knew Crash OTT was a black sheep in it's series ahahaha... but I was never in any community so I only ever judged it as a game by itself; And by it's own, I feel like it has always been a good fun smack-enemy game. Crash OTT was my introduction to gaming in entirely, and the one that defined my genre in games, so it will always be a special gem; with that said, I am here commenting because of God of War.
This is the first main game in the series that does not add new major characters to the over-sized roster. The flag on top of Coco's house is a reference to the Canadian flag, only with the Crash paw print instead of the maple leaf. This is a reference to that Radical Entertainment is an Canadian company. Tiny Tiger's type of species is changed in this game. In the games up to this point, Tiny was a Thylacine (aka Tasmanian Tiger). However, he was changed into a Siberian Tiger for this game. His personality was also altered. This game originally was gonna be a new reboot of the franchise however due the bad criticism the second (Mind Over Mutant) would be the last game of them.
I think if they had kept the original character designs this game could have been received a lot better among the fans. I was there in 2008 as one of the people who absolutely despised this game. Looking back now, if you take the name Crash out and any resemblance of the Bandicoot, you have a decent game on its own. I think what upsets us at the time was the character presentations - appearance and personality wise. It was such a radical change that it felt like this was for another audience.
Crash 4 was actually the highest rated post naughty dog crash game it got 85 on metacritics and most fans praised the game for continuing the classic formula but with new improvements and additions like the masks power ups and the extra playable characters, not mentioning the art style which it's 10 times better then the n sane trilogy imo, the only grips that a lot of people have with the game that it's too hard and time consuming to get 100%.
also worth noting cortex did get the last laugh on nina after all the last words in the game are "and besides I'm still gonna spnak you stupid for this" "
Honestly the only thing I hated about this game was the character redesigns. Other than that it was pretty good. I feel like more people would be more accepting of it they just kept the older designs
Wumpa Island wasn't a retcon of N. Sanity Island, it's the unnamed 2nd island from the first game, the Bandicoots moved there (I don't blame you for not knowing this because the game never fills you in on such a thing happening). The Uka Tree that you climb at the top of the island is the very same giant tree you saw on the island in 1 and 2 (redesigned, of course), just to make you like Titans even more. Pretty awesome that you get to explore something that previously was only used on a map screen to characterize the island.
11:03 in my opinion crash bandicoot 4 has the better story and it has way more plot twists that I like and it actually knows what it wants to be it shows what happens after the ending of crash 3 and it continues what made the original games so great while adding a bunch of new ideas and mechanics that actually compliment the original formula and not steer away from it like titans, titans is a confusing game and it doesn't know if it wants to be a reboot or a continuation by changing half of the characters personalities and crash's origins and the worlds names, the gameplay is at least okay but nothing to write a home about it's a repetitive beat em up with not enough variety and the titans don't spice things up that much imo.
Mind over Mutant didn't kill the franchise.... It sold well enough for Activision to green light Crash Landed. Which never got out of the door because of development issues, and then Crash went on hiatus because Activision didn't know what to do with it.
2008-2017 was when I was 9 to 18 years old... half of my childhood went without a new Crash Bandicoot game release which hurt considering I grew up playing this franchise.
I think Titans is a bit underappreciated too, there's definitely things to enjoy here, but saying it's what the franchise "needed" when these games literally killed it, is a bit much to say the least lol. The problem was never that the platforming formula was stale, the problem was that no game kept elaborating on the specific style that the Naughty Dog games had that made them so unique in the genre. WoC was just a copy of Warped with even more gimmick levels and just controlled like garbage, Twinsanity had a lot of great ideas but had more of a free-roaming, fully 3D design in its levels, and moved away from the more precise challenges that the more linear levels of the classic games gave you, in which crates double as collectibles AND platforms that break on impact. That last thing is the most unique element of these games that none of the Crash clones or sequels really understood until 4 came out, which is part of why they weren't as successful. The Titans games moved away from platforming even more and instead entered the already over-saturated shallow hack n' slash market, without the depth of even something like God of War. Had it been a whole new IP, I'm not sure it would've found success unless they added more elements from monster collecting RPGs like Pokemon but in an action context, because the gimmick in these games as they are just isn't enough to excuse the simplistic combat. Crash 4 wasn't a critical success because people just got nostalgic over the old games and they wanted something like that back or because it simply introduced new things, it was successful because it was the only game that truly built on top of the principles of those original games, the thing they should've done from the start.
I wonder if you still like this game. I know you're not a fan of platformers or Crash anymore, but I am interested to see what you think of this game now, since it is more of a beat em up than a platformer.
4:42 You might not have thought of another example for some reason, but *I* can: Nicktoons Unite (Console Version) No, it sucks ass and is completely useless, so it’s just a technicality.
Crash of the titan was and will always be the shit. It was so creative and so fun. The world was so good to look at and so well developed. It will always be a legend in my heart.
Nope, I'm not TGX, I left that part of my life behind a long time ago. So I respectfully request you don't refer to me as that. Also I can tell by your profile picture that you're a big Crash fan, so I regret to inform you that I'm no longer a fan of the series.
Obe, I don't know what you just read, I never said I hated it. But if you want to know the reason why I stopped being a fan, you're not going to like it.
@@TBP I wouldn't mind hearing your opinion and I won't be upset if you say anything bad about the series lol, I'm just curious to know why you stopped being a fan because in your old channel you used to love it and keep talking about it, is it that platformers in general got stale for a long time? it's understandable if that's your reason.
I personally still feel this is not a good crash game, the thing I hate most is the writing. I know Crash isn't a series known for great stories or strong narrative, hell NaughtyDog admit as much that the stories for their Crash titles weren't something they took seriously and even intentionally tried to jump the shark with CTR but it all still came off as genuinely charming and fun. Titans and the game preceding it Tag Team Racing felt less that and more like they genuinely misunderstood what made Crash stories appealing. WoC and Twinsanity weren't great in that regard either, though I found Twinsanity still had charm. But I don't think they went quite as over the deep end as the Radical Entertainment trilogy of games did. It started to feel more and more detatched from what drew fans in initially, taking what was done with the games in a so far off direction it wasn't recognizable anymore. For all the flaws I think the N.Sane trilogy and Crash 4 have I feel they're more all around like crash games than anything that came before excluding the two initial GBA games Vicarious Visions did but the plots in those were also a lot more scaled down anyway with the hardware it was on. I think there are far better entries than either Titans games, they're by no means god awful games but I couldn't squeeze any fun out of them myself and just moved on even if for some they're fine or childhood classics.
I can see what you like about the writing, hell I could even agree the ideas of the story are good, but the humor I don't find appealing at all honestly. And the characterization issues go well above just Tiny for me, I don't like how they tackled most of the cast outside of stand outs who are given good roles and well... more focus then they had before simply by proxy of being very recently invented.
I know I'll be crucified by the Crash bandicoot community for saying this but Crash of the titans is better than Crash Twinsanity. *(And this is coming from someone who played both games to the end. Sue me.)*
The next crash game need to be platformer with rpg elements such as currency, npcs. A hub world, something that could have been in crash 4 but of course tfb couldn't be bothered. Some quest specific items, attack upgrades, etc. Same for spyro.
I think no matter what Crash game came out in the 2000's no matter how good it wasn't gonna the sales from the 90's. Gaming was shifting. Even Jak and Daxter 1 which is a phenomenon Platfomers was seen as old news so Naughty Dog had to shift gear to a more GTA style. Crash Bandicoot hiatus was necessary. By 2017 people wanted Crash back and plafomers well non Nintendo were in again. Gaming shifts one generation goes from platfomers to GTA styles games to CoD style games to story driven games. Crash's future is in question with Microsoft and there's no telling what will happen. I can see what was the Titans series trying to do. God of War styles games were all the rage. Unfortunately I haven't played it to fully judge. But the cutscenes were entertaining although Cringeworthy at times
this is off topic about crash but you should respond to xem's streams of your ratchet and clank videos. who keeps on roasting you in his steams you should respond to try to prove your point since he didn't understand
Yeah he mentioned that he was considering unlisting the second video at least, because a bunch of people were rightfully calling him out for harassment. If there's anything like that from after those two videos, that's what I want to know, because I want to know that he's perpetuating this harassment even after he uploaded the two videos about me.
I finished ratchet and clank rift apart in one day... I gotta b honest to everyone and say it was terrible. The graphics were good but everything else felt dumb downed for babies, I’m so gutted I was looking forward to this game so much but it’s just a 2016 ratchet all over again, but maybe even slightly worse as my expectations were higher. The writing story and characters are all awful, the gameplay was dull and easy (even on hard) most of the planets looked the same, I don’t know guys it was just a massive shocker unfortunately
Interesting perspective on disliking Twinsanity’s comedy but liked Titans. I feel like if someones likes/dislikes one they like/dislike the other. Overall I think this game is good but too many things changed all at once which is why still to this day I completely understand why a lot of people don’t like it.
It's kind of like how I've never found the first Shrek movie funny, but the second one I've always found hysterical. There's just a certain intangible element that one has that the other doesn't which just clicks with me. If I had to speculate, I think it's because Twinsanity leans more on the side of immature, where Crash of the Titans leans more towards the side of raunchy. Which as a fan of the classic era of Ratchet & Clank; I can dig like a shallow grave.
What? I thought people hated Twinsanity!?! Now you're telling me I missed out on a GOOD CRASH GAME WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK BRO REMASTER THAT SHIT RN OR IM GOING TO PIRATE IT
I disagree crash twinsanity is better Titans is just a beatem up nothing special about it it's fine for what it is but not better than Twinsanity. But I still loved the game and I do respect your opinion
I hate the realistic art style of the Crash N. Sane Trilogy. Crashes realistic furry looked weird. I love Crash 4’s art style. It’s sad that it sold poorly because I loved it.
Nuh crash 4 didn't sell poorly at all, in recent announcement from toys for bob crash 4 sold around 5 million copies and that's impressive for a 3D platformer released in 2020.
The game got mixed reviews from critics, but was panned by fans; “fans” meaning awetistic screeching man children who still care about laughably outdated mascot-platformer franchises
Because Jak And Daxter's shift just didn't work for me, and Crash Bandicoot was stale and made the shift work. Not a double standard, just a nuanced topic comparing two completely different games.
@@TBP You lost the nuance defense when you said that Jak was an objectively bad series because you did not like the variety in the gameplay or the story. And these games are action platformers that started as collectatons before shifting gears to become more open world action games. Jak just did it sooner than Crash did before its gameplay got stale.
No, I never said Jak and Daxter was objectively bad, you're completely misrepresenting what I've said to try and make your point. The only things I mentioned as objective are things that are quantifiable. Like repetition. Even then I used the phrase "probably". Besides, whatever I said about Jak and Daxter is completely irrelevant to this "gotcha" you've presented. Guess what, not everything is black and white. Just like how you're comparing two completely different situations here. Keep claiming you're not doing that, but that's what you're doing. The only commonality between these two series is that they were platforming franchises that changed into a different genre. Every other piece of context is completely different. Having two completely different opinions on two completely different series in two completely different situations is not hypocrisy. There's no clearer way I can put this.
@@TBP and what does being an adult have to do with preferring a video game story to the other, plus the crash franchise isn't just for kids and I'll argue that the actual audience are 20+ years old.
Because you're a grown adult getting indignant over which story in a children's game I prefer. If you're indignant enough over that fact that you're willing to fight me on it, you badly need to grow up.

I would like to see Activision remaking TwinInsanity and complete the game since original game cut out so much content.
looking forward to hearing your thoughts on crash 4! love your videos so far :)
Crash of the titans was always a good game for me and one of things I really enjoyed was the coop I even played with one of my big brothers to the end because of how fun we had with coop and one game mechanic of that mode I like was the switch of players that happened in each platform section.
It will be awesome seeing you become a big ass channel some day
Would be nice, wouldn't it?
Its wild to me that the mutant duo of games werent received well, as i enjoyed them so much growing up. I had played crash prior, and this shake up was so needed for me, after twinsanity and wrath of cortex
Especially the sequel, woth how much love went into the cutscenes with different styles
Such great times!
Great video! Not much else to say except I'm glad to see more people defending the game
Definitely one of my favorites to replay.
Can't believe you barely talked about the titans, they were like the coolest part!
Subversion for the sake of subversion has always made me roll my eyes. This game did... alright at mixing things up while keeping it in line with "Crash". That's about as much praise as I can give it haha
13:35 you are a genius editor!
I remember my 4th birthday as my dad bringing a playstation 2 from the store with Crash bandicoot mind over mutants and gta san andreas. i was the happiest kid ever

COCO TELEPORTED
It's funny for me. Twinsanity was my first Crash game and i didn't go back to the original games until after I played Crash of the Titans. So I love both of those games.
this game and links crossbow training were my early childhood
Thank you for talking about the game's mechanics rather than telling us the plotline all over again. Too many damn "reviewers" have such a bad habit of explaining Crash's origin story before talking about the main subject.
This was the first Crash game I properly played since I owned it on the Wii growing up.
COTT was actually the first Crash game I ever played, and I frikkin loved it! The fun beat em up gameplay and hilarious dialogue won me over instantly, and I'm still pretty fond of it to this day! ^^
I never knew Crash OTT was a black sheep in it's series ahahaha... but I was never in any community so I only ever judged it as a game by itself;
And by it's own, I feel like it has always been a good fun smack-enemy game.
Crash OTT was my introduction to gaming in entirely, and the one that defined my genre in games, so it will always be a special gem;
with that said, I am here commenting because of God of War.
Didn't think I'd ever see someone say something in Crash of the Titans is genius.
This had such a neat concept. It could have worked outside of crash bandicoot as well.
loved this game back then
This is the first main game in the series that does not add new major characters to the over-sized roster.
Love this game. Just re-played it on ps3 (hen). It was awesome, just like when i was a child
I absolutely love this game, my first crash game ever
I always loved this game more than mind over mutant. who else agrees too?
I think if they had kept the original character designs this game could have been received a lot better among the fans.
I was there in 2008 as one of the people who absolutely despised this game. Looking back now, if you take the name Crash out and any resemblance of the Bandicoot, you have a decent game on its own. I think what upsets us at the time was the character presentations - appearance and personality wise. It was such a radical change that it felt like this was for another audience.
i played this on my psp back in the day. i enjoyed it. the ost is good too.
Your right about doing something different sometimes. Crash 4 was exactly like the trilogy and that didn't do it a lot of favors
Haven't played this game since it came out but remember thinking that it's not a bad game but just didn't feel like a Crash game
also worth noting cortex did get the last laugh on nina after all the last words in the game are
"and besides I'm still gonna spnak you stupid for this"
"
Crash MoM and CotT are games that take twinsanity, and goofs around the comedic premise in which i think both did well
Crash design in here is dope.
Honestly the only thing I hated about this game was the character redesigns. Other than that it was pretty good. I feel like more people would be more accepting of it they just kept the older designs
Man... Loved this game, tbh.
Yeah me too. 😎
What's your thoughts on Crash 4, regardless if you liked it or not?
"But I liked when he hit me"
Ok... so does that mean that N.Gin has some sort of masochistic kink with Cortex?
Here's to more crash!!!
It's funny, but a lot of your opinions on Crash of the Titans mirrors what I think about DmC in relation to the Devil May Cry series.
Crash of the titans was heavily underated,I feel like mind over mutant made it look bad
9:25 why does cortex look like the twitchy from hoodwinked talking?
Next up: The unappreciated nuance of E.T 2006
There's no such thing as ET 2006.
@@TBP whoooops. leaving it.
4:40 kameo kinda
> The Titans games killed the series
Not really, we were supposed to have Crash Landed and a new Crash Team Racing game in 2010, but they got canned.
Would love a video on crash team raceing
i hope that they gonna make a new crash and the titans game
You will do simmilar movie about spyro?

Can't say I am,
Matter of fact, I'm never covering Spyro
@@TBP Intresting
Where such decision came from?
I wonder if you still like this game. I know you're not a fan of platformers or Crash anymore, but I am interested to see what you think of this game now, since it is more of a beat em up than a platformer.
14:40 who made that chart?
Umm... I did

Uhh... I think that it.
Crash of the titan was and will always be the shit. It was so creative and so fun. The world was so good to look at and so well developed. It will always be a legend in my heart.
Wait a sec... You're TGX??? I missed your channel so much and just now I find out you have another one
Nope, I'm not TGX, I left that part of my life behind a long time ago. So I respectfully request you don't refer to me as that. Also I can tell by your profile picture that you're a big Crash fan, so I regret to inform you that I'm no longer a fan of the series.
That's fine I like all your videos
Why though? What made you hate the series?@@TBP
I love this game
It's an absolute shame that the dominating mindsets surrounding this game are "tattoos bad" and "different."
I know I'll be crucified by the Crash bandicoot community for saying this but Crash of the titans is better than Crash Twinsanity.
*(And this is coming from someone who played both games to the end. Sue me.)*
I honestly think Twinsanity is one of the worst Crash games.
@@sebastiankulche but why?
I agree but it's not saying much.
Crash of the titans is far more polished than twinsanity, so it makes sense to like titans more.
i really enjoyed these games, The legend of Spyro was also fucking awesome
subversive ? genius ? it's just eccentric, champ
In my opinion crash 4 was disappointing to me and I love crash of the titan more than crash 4
The next crash game need to be platformer with rpg elements such as currency, npcs. A hub world, something that could have been in crash 4 but of course tfb couldn't be bothered. Some quest specific items, attack upgrades, etc. Same for spyro.
4:38 would Pokemon count?
But the cutscenes were entertaining although Cringeworthy at times
this is off topic about crash but you should respond to xem's streams of your ratchet and clank videos. who keeps on roasting you in his steams you should respond to try to prove your point since he didn't understand

actually i guess he deleted the second vid i think
Which as a fan of the classic era of Ratchet & Clank; I can dig like a shallow grave.

best crash game and crash design by landslide
I disagree crash twinsanity is better Titans is just a beatem up nothing special about it it's fine for what it is but not better than Twinsanity. But I still loved the game and I do respect your opinion
The word of the day is "punctuation"
I hate the realistic art style of the Crash N. Sane Trilogy. Crashes realistic furry looked weird. I love Crash 4’s art style. It’s sad that it sold poorly because I loved it.
Same thoughts here.
You praise this game for trying something new in its series but trashed Jak and Daxter for it? That's a big double standard.

Bruh you haven't even played enough of crash 4 and then you say titans has the best story in the entire franchise how strange.
