Yeah, those words made me tear up.
And they are together again, at last.
Same! Where are my tissues?
My grandparents were married nearly 80 years, outliving 4 of their 9 children. She died not long before their wedding anniversary, and my grandfather wouldn’t go to her funeral. He went to bed and turned his face to the wall. A few months after that, he announced to the nursing staff that “I’m going to see my baby and I’m going tonight”. And he did. Cause of death? Decision (not suicide) - he was 98.

My grandpa died in Sept..Grandmother died Nov on their wedding anniversary..Would have been 64 yrs...So they never spent a wedding anniversary apart..She went on to join him.

We just accidentally taped my mom and dad talking for the last time while they were both in the hospital with covid, dad died shortly after that. They didn’t know that would be their last conversation.
It all happened because the nurses pushed my dad down the hall to my moms hospital room so they could have dinner together, what a blessing that was for all of us. ❤️❤️

This is a loving man who had a heart attack and can't see his wife.
Aikaterine Illt It is called true love! True love is blind, but not obsessed. True love loves through sickness- mental and physical. That is true love. Back then lots of people took their marriage vows seriously, unlike the throw away love of today.
It was like she didn't have Alzheimer's when she was speaking to him. She missed him too, she hoped they would be together soon, it was like she was coherent. Maybe he was her bridge in her brain.
I noticed that she had clarity .
But that's the thing about Alzheimer's... One moment they remember everything and all seems totally normal... then the next moment it's like someone pulled the plug... that's the heart wrenching part. It's terrible because you don't know if your loved one is going to remember you in the next 5 minutes.
I believe the recorded phone call was an amazing stroke of fortune for both of them to have a beautiful conversation as if nothing was wrong. It could have been the other way...

The thing that really stood out to me in this recording is how completely and entirely kind and respectful and loving the two were to each other in every thing they said.

My 87 year old dad and my 84 year mom are both completely independent and luckily both have all of their faculties. My dad was diagnosed with incurable Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma when he was 73, but is doing extremely well. I'm so glad that they can spend this time together and remember all of it. I feel very lucky! 💕😌

I had a bed ridden resident but still quite cognitive whose wife used to visit routinely. The wife died due to health problems and he was depressed for a while after that. One day he was smiling and happy, told me "I'm going to paradise, friend" I said "Can I come?" He smiled and said "No, I'm going to see my wife"... He did not wake up the next day and went to palliative care~ He died soon after~

The morning my daughter died (she was 25, an ALS patient) she looked up rather shocked. I asked her what was wrong. She said she saw Grandpa (died 20 years earlier) and an angel. I asked her outwardly if it meant she would be leaving soon. She said she didn't know but she had a wonderful day died that evening. (I wish I could say peacefully) 💔

I needed this. Seeing how respect is the number one pillar that should never fall in a relationship. It really encompasses all els in love.
I really needed this for guidance.
I needed this, too. Hearing the respect and love the couple felt for each other had such a positive impact on me. It's amazing that their last conversation was recorded, to show the rest of us what real love is. But also, hearing Mr. Kornberg say that he never called his father back comforted me just a little. I needed that, too. My last words to my father were "I'll come back tomorrow". I did not. He died. This was in 1992, and it still haunts me. Maybe we're all just human, doing the best we can, with what little information we have, and we should be kind to ourselves, too -- not just others.

My mom had dementia when my dad died in October of 2019. I never told her. Didn’t see the point. She died last month. I hope they’re together again.
Oh wow, not telling her was probably a very difficult act of love. I've witnessed people with dementia, but I've never lost a loved one or witnessed a loved one suffer with dementia. I can't even imagine how utterly heart-shattering that would be. Sorry for your losses!! Prayers to you 🙏❤

How kind and loving they were to each other. Even with her dementia, she responded so affectionately to every loving platitude. It's clear despite the cruelties of old age, their love endured, undiminished, to the very end.

This was both heartbreaking and heartwarming at same time.
As soon as I listened to the recording, I just burst into tears. You can feel the strong love and bond between and despite the mother’s Alzheimers, you can tell she at least remembers him. Their talk was bitter sweet and powerful. They may have been journeying towards the end of their lives but he knew they’ll one day be together again once he passes.

Freakin Alzheimer's!! And kudos to the brave son for admitting his blunder, you could almost hear the strains of "Cats in the Cradle" smh. His honesty made the story that much more powerful.
Dear Mr. Kornberg, I just wanted to say, thank you for posting this video. As short as it is, you said a lot. You conveyed a message of love. At the same time, you remind the viewer, how precious our time is here on earth, with the ones we love. It is important that we make it known and to never take each other for granted while we are here. God always has a purpose and much of the time, we have no idea what the plan is, especially, as life events unfold. You told your dad that would call him back. This is our day to day life. We don't think that this person (or we ourselves) might not be there to call back. There is a lesson in everything, in this case, you, yourself, learned something. Learining is not a bad thing. To the contrary, it is a good thing. Your dad knew you loved him. You, I am sure, showed him this over a lifetime. One thing that struck me was your dad saying to your mom "Patience." Your dad stated, "before you know it, time has passed, and we will be togther again." This is true, thos os God's promise. Thank you again for sharing, this was very touching.

So beautiful. I lost my husband 2 years ago at the age of 51 of ALS (MND). He couldn't speak for the last year of his life and I envy the ease of their conversation, born of love and familiarity. For her to live on, unaware that he has gone, is comforting in a way. How blessed they were.

I’m crying inconsolably right now. Thank you for sharing something so beautiful, precious, and bittersweet.
Such a tender, loving story told with a remarkably subtle, professional visual editing feature. Beautiful all the way through. The family should know that, although the recording tape ended, it does not mean that the conversation was cut off to the couple. If one answered the telephone AFTER the answering machine clicked on, then the recorder would capture for as long as it was programmed to do, but when it stopped recording the couple's conversation was not affected. So...they were definitely able to finish their loving last talk. They had a relationship that most people long for. Bless them wherever they are, and bless the son for sharing his 'memory treasure' with us.

I loved this piece and just wanted to let Jeffrey Kornberg know that I had a similar regret with my Mom, where she left a message on my answering machine, asking how I was doing, and I had planned to call her back on Saturday when I was less busy. She died Friday night. It took me a while to forgive myself, but I know that she knew that I loved her and that the last time I saw her in person, we parted with a hug. This beautiful tribute to your parents shows how deeply you loved your father, and I'm sure he knew.

That's a tough decision to make, when to stop reminding them of reality. When my mom was losing her memory and asked about my dad (she wasn't that bad yet), I'd remind her that was gone, and she'd be like yeah, that's right what was I thinking of. But one day when I said that, she responded like getting the news for the first time. It broke my heart. I've never corrected her since. We just make an excuse and she goes on to the next thing.
Don’t need to be sad. Your dad is such a loving man, your mom is so lucky.

No matter what, always tell your loved ones you love them. Don't part on bad terms. Make sure they are ok and make sure to always treasure all the moments together.

The love this couple half and the way they raise their children is what we all wish we could have it our lives wiskim one and in our family. What an example and an uplifting story. I'm grateful their son shared this with us.
I've been married 25 yrs. My husband tells me every single day he loves me. If you feel it then say it out loud to the person you love. It's important. It's not a matter of "they knew so there was no need to say it all the time." Make sure you say it too. Need needn't come into it.
It depends on the person's top love language. If the person love language isn't affirmation then she doesn't need to hear it all the time.
I do the same thing. We've been married 11 years and still say i love you to each other daily

You are SO right. My husband was the love of my life, and always will be. I did know he loved me - he showed it in hundreds of ways - but my heart yearned to actually hear the words. He passed away on Christmas Eve 2019. I miss him so. If only I could’ve had that small three-word gift to keep in my heart... 💔

I'm crying so hard. I miss my grandma so much. Her Alzheimers was so bad for her last few years that she couldn't speak anymore. Yet her last words were vocalizing my name over and over and over again.

I recently found a massive tied up pile of letters my mum wrote to my dad in 1957/8, the year before they married when he was stationed in Belfast training as an air traffic controller.
Oh my god, they are a WONDERFUL insight into just how madly in love they both were! 2 or 3 letters a day they’d write!!
So sweet that dad must have kept these and hidden them away!!❤️
(It appears that mum chucked hers away at some point over their 54 years of marriage. 😳
Would have been so romantic to have both sides of the conversation on record❤️)
I also kept my letters between my ex-husband and I, when he was in basic training. I didn't know I still had them after the divorce. I almost through them away, in my anger, but had the good sense to keep them for my children should they want them. There were beautiful words of love in those letters.
Relationships really were special in the golden years of yon 😀❤😀

My mother passed on last November. Even with the all ALL the technology available these days I have only a few videos of her...I was videoing a caterpillar outside the back door and I realised afterwards that in the back ground were my parents talking about going for doctors appointments. Its a little bit of treasure that means so much to me.
Sad, isn't it, that with all the technology we have, that we often miss the opportunity to capture those wee moments that makes life worth living. I have 2 videos of my Mum. One of her getting punched in the head at the newsagency that she owned, and the other of her on April Fool's Day, 2011... the day she was diagnosed with cancer...she was immediately admitted to hospital, and we made a video of her talking to her cat. She died 4 months and 10 days later, as predicted by her oncologist. Sending much love to you...losing your Mum is devastating. 💖💖💖

Be still my heart... thank you for sharing this most precious moment. My young husband fought cancer and we knew what was coming. I never left the room without kissing him goodbye and making him guess the flavor of chapstick I had on. I was blessed to share his last breath with him.

I came across a taped phone call with my deceased sister talking on it. Her and my brother were taping a discrepancy with a credit card co. She passed 4 years ago. Bonnie was not only my sister, but my best friend. I made sure I labeled the cassette and put it away for safe keeping.

You should try and get the recording transferred to s digital file. Tape deteriorates over time even just sitting there untouched.
I have my favorite brother's last voice mail message that he left me. 😢

I really loved this! I have been a nurse for almost 4 decades and I must admit, I am not easily impressed. I was deeply touched by your sharing this. It has impacted me in a very deep way for the good. It is a blessing to see the depth of love you have for parents. Thank you very much for sharing this. May you find a deep peace that surrounds you in comfort. I will pray that you do. There is a book called "Jan's Story. The Long Goodbye" That helped me a lot. It is about a 55 year old woman who developed Early onset Alzheimer's and I found it freeing and very helpful. May you find the comfort and peace your heart seeks. You have a beautiful, tender heart and I think your parents know just how very much you loved and honored them.
Couples are so lucky to get so many years. My husband suddenly 10 days after his 45th birthday when our 5 children were ages 6 to 23. I'd give the rest of my life for 1 more day with him.
About two minutes in I realized I was smiling as I listened to you describing your parents lives. Your father was incredible. You seem to have a similarly thoughtful heart.
I wish my parents could've stayed together. I wish I could have more memories with my parents together.
In this life, often the loose ends don't ever get tied up the way we would have wanted them to. It's normal to grieve when that happens. I wish you peace.

My parents divorced when I was three (I’m eighteen now) and I always think about what my life could’ve been if my parents just worked things out…they live in different states so being with one for a long time and then not seeing the other for about a year is just painful. And broken homes puts you in the middle of everything which sucks. I feel you.
@@jesidepresi I often think how sad it is that something so profound and important - the creation of a child - can happen so easily between people who are not compatible enough to raise and nurture that precious offspring together.
You can be glad you do have both your parents in your life and make the most of that, they won't be around forever.
My maternal grandmother had alzheimer's. Her son died a few months before she did and her other children made the decision not to tell her because it would be pointless to break her heart over and over again as she continued to forget.

My dad was my best friend. We talked every day, sometimes all day. Since I was a teenager. We had a dispute back in October 2020. We didn’t talk for 5 months. The first and only time we ever went without speaking. He suddenly passed in March. We never got to make up. But he’ll always be the best thing that ever happened to me 😭

In a book by Hospice Nurses, they say "YES" people do know when they are going to die and only do so when ready.
As a hospice nurse, I totally agree.
This is 100% true my parents owned Palliative care centres basically my whole life and many of those people wouldn’t pass until every I was dotted and T was crossed! I took care of a lady who wouldn’t pass until she knew the Pies being served at her funeral were in Her kitchen waiting on the table she passed that night at 4:17am. A lot of people won’t pass if theirs other people/family in the room either sometimes if we noticed a person dragging out their passing we’d invite the family into the great room for Tea or lunch and the person would use that opportunity to pass…
The Dalai Lama says EVERYONE knows within two years when they are going to pass away.
My father definitely wasn't ready. He wanted to leave hospice but was too weak. I wish I would have thought to say I'll help you bust out of here. He would have been happy to hear that.
@@becknireckn I assume your father has passed. If so, he is 100 times happier now than he was in his past life. If he hasn't tried to contact you to reassure you that he is now ok, it is because people who have passed don't necessarily have the skills to communicate with the still-living.
In a strange way, that was very heartwarming, beautiful, charming, romantic and everything that is special in a loving relationship.
(Even although I don’t know this family, I thank them for sharing a very small piece of their lives)

This was true, pure genuine love that Is so hard to find today. His parents were so blessed to have found each other and show their son that love that most of us long to find. How amazing to have us see a glimpse of what real love is like. Thank you sir for sharing their love and an insight to how love is all bittersweet, wonderful, heart breaking and restoring all at once.
1953 baby here & while I didn’t go thru Alzheimer’s, I did go thru Parkinson’s with mama & just old age decline with daddy. They died within 7 weeks of each other in 2005. It’s hard. This special message is just wonderful & so loving. I’m so glad you have it. God Bless.

Before my grandma died she started seeing her mother. She would tell us her ma was walking through the room. The expression on her face was like she was a little girl again. We took comfort in knowing she was seeing her mother before she died.
Your dad understood and he got to hear your voice. He knew you were there.
This was heartbreaking, poignant and beautiful in equal measures.

I'm done...im 63 now & raising my 8 yr old grandson. His dad, my son lives with me also.
Been single since 2015 & honestly dont want to get involved again. I like being single now....never thought I be raising my grandson. 😱🥰

It was nice that she was lucid at that moment. It sounded like a regular conversation between 2 people who loved and missed each other. Both hopeful.
My mom told me "I'm going to miss you, you know". I said, "I'll be back in the morning"...She had a fall the next morning and passed away a few hours later.

My Great Grandma passed after a fall down the stairs when I was 16. I had totally forgotten till I saw your comment. They found her, having dragged an Album of photos off a nearby Bookshelf. Pictures of her Kids, Grandkids and Great Grandkids strewn about 💙😪
There should be more content like this on RUclips. I have a wonderful mom but would have loved to have had a dad like yours!

My grandfather had alzheimer's. My grandmother passed away when I was 6 (before his Alzheimer's). He'd always forget she had passed. A few times he'd think my mom was his wife. We never bothered telling him because there's no point in stressing him out when he'd only forget. It's very heartbreaking when they have moments of remembrance and they realize they're lost. God bless him. He's since passed and they're together again.
i had a head trauma accident, i know my brain has changed, lol, i do math waay quickly, but iv not had the spelling finesse i used to have. my short term memory is pulling stunts a bit and i notice it..and yes my longterm is going waaay back machine on me, really intrigues me sometimes. but i have the bad feeling that i am going to think my daughter is my sister/ who'v not seen in decades nor plans to.. that's AWFUL , since my daughter and i even worked together on a radio show as cohosts.. we did a lot of projects closely and even shared bed couple years as my husband had to sleep during days and we too were late night ,so schedules differed and worked that way best. I'd hate to do that to my daughter who is not blue eyed like my sister even, but its weird how alikeness triggers wrong name w past same other physical characteristics .. i can see how that its only about reactionary swift mis-distributing its not mal-relationship placement like we'd think but rather familiarity in a kind of stasis: that's how it feels within me , a glimpse of it now, it's a funny feeling a duality, like both feel good and im reaching only halfway the real deeper one i do love deeper but on way am stopping to say here's the best of of my life/ so here you go/ here's to both of you at the same time/ lol hoorrrrayyy !!! lol!!! ..its Too Frightening.. makes me not want to talk at all sometimes , and live alone and like it because its less trouble all around !! Even does seem like not living forever or a way to beat worse would be a blessings in disguise.. don't we all down inside when we get more educated or experience .. i have an older husband '/ age span too.. he's starting to get off track too.. some little ways some times .. i intend to help him.. its the fairest way. It will be my catharsis for me too!is why i'll hang on to him for him as far as possible!

A lady in know once said to me"never go to bed on an argument" and it's stuck with me all my life and now my parents are old they argue alot especially at bedtime and I hate the thought of them not being happy when that inevitable time comes and this is so beautiful to hear, brought tears to my eyes.
Maybe you should gently remind them. One trial of this life, of being human, is that we never know the time or place. It’s the hardest part, I think. I wish you & your parents well💗.

Awwww this made me wanna cry. 😥😓. So sweet but so heartbreaking 😓💔. I'm so glad they loved each other. That's how marriage is supposed to be. Life when you get older is full of memories .... The past always seems like the happier times. You can choose to be happy in your present but then it doesn't seem as good because you know you don't have as much time left on this earth than you used to have. So in a way aging can be depressing. But losing a loved one is even more depressing. Finding that last message was like striking gold. Very special and very sweet. Him telling her that he loved her the way he did a couple times and the way he said it. It was so sweet. You know he really did.

Gotta admire a strong woman who didn’t shave her armpits! Not making fun of because most of the time I don’t! He brought tears to my eyes. My dad died in May of Alzheimer’s as did his siblings. I’m sure I will, too
It’s been so long since I seen armpit hair on a woman! Things were different then. What a beautiful marriage.
I think shaved armpits weren't a thing back then.
They were there for each other every day supporting each other and that action means "I love you" no words required.
