- Well, what can I say, the name of the video, 'Where to now ?', says it all...
With the news I bring to you in this video, some will say it is a new, unknown adventure, others will say that's life, while the rest of you will feel a little compassionate.
I assume some of you will be surprised in regards to the content of this video and I dare say some have been in this predicament before...
We, as modellers must remember what we do is a hobby, something that lets us all be free, creative and can really challenge us at times.
I have a massive challenge (change ?) ahead of me, yet I will remain positive with whatever direction it takes me....
Cheers, Gary.
You’re one of the finest modellers anywhere and I hope you can keep most if not all of the layouts that you want to!
All the best and best of luck finding a place Gary.
Gutted for you, Gary. I do hope everything works out for you. I never knew what a prolific builder of such great layouts you are.
Chin up and keep soldiering on! 😃
All of the best Gary! I'm modeling D&RGW here in Cape Town, SA! 15' x 21" double decker with third level staging areas X 3 under everything. Tennessee Pass.
The layouts may be going, but the memories will stay with you a lifetime. Life is a journey. Enjoy the ride!
Sorry to hear the news about the house Gary... i hope you find enough space in a future dwelling...
Off to the next chapter Gary! It'll be exciting to see the next phase of your journey. We learned a lot on the Downtown Spur. Time to learn more!
Sending you best wishes Gary that you land firmly on your feet with ample room for the layouts! Hang in there...
G'day Paul,
Thanks for your wishes. I'm sure I'll land okay, but where at the moment I'm not too sure !
Cheers, Gary.
Fingers crossed everything is sorted soon. Great trip down memory lane, and looking forward to the new adventures coming up. All the best mate.
It's always difficult to "cheerfully" look forward to a move - especially when the circumstances are out of your control. ❤ hugs ❤
Wishing you all the best, and looking forward to the next chapter in your hobby adventures!
Gary, you will always have the lessons and the community that have been built around the layout.
I am building my layout in a leased space, so I completely get your situation.
G'day Heath,
I knew the day would come where I would have to relocate, just didn't think it would be so soon. Then again, I have been in this dwelling for 17 years ! That's a pretty good innings on a leased property in Sydney ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful layout (and past projects) with the community. Now you have the skills and experience to build something even greater on a smaller footprint. I would build something smaller and new as well. 😉 Cheers and all the best to you! ~ Boomer. 😁👍
G'day Boomer,
Thanks for your kind and wise words. Building layouts of different sizes, different eras and different countries is one of my passions. I guess each layout I build is a new challenge and I love a new challenge. I regard this relocation as just another challenge, or a quick side step, but I'll be back building another layout (that is if I can not take one with me) in no time ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
Good Luck with the move, Gary. Bloody shame really, you still look young enough and have the heart to start again. I love watching your progress and will with interest as you move on to the next stage in life and model railroading, All the best!
G'day Owen,
Thanks for your endorsement about my age and my ability to carry on. This is something I intend to do. At the moment I'll be taking a break from the hobby as I sort a few things out. I will still be keeping my eyes open in all the great Facebook groups and also on Platform 1 MRC. I ain't done yet !! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
Wow amazing details and layouts. Buildings are spot on
G'day hoosiersub47167,
Thanks for your kind comments about the layouts, much appreciated !
Cheers, Gary.
Hopefully everything works out and your able to keep it, if not I'm really excited to see what you do next
G'day UPfreelancerailroad,
I'm not to sure what the next couple of weeks will be like, but I am certainly keeping positive on where I land my feet. Whether I take a layout with me, or build a new one is one question that will be answered in the not to distant future. 🤔😉
Cheers, Gary.
I am really impressed. :)
God bless you.
G'day Romin.777,
Thanks for your kind comments. You probably guessed that I like to build layouts ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
@@Gaz3801 That's quite obvious indeed. And you are good at it too. :)
I want to build one, but haven't started yet.
I really hope you are able to find somewhere to house Miami. It is such a grateful layout mate. I hope it all works out
Some beautiful work there Gary. If you need assistance with temporary storage, please reach out to our NMRA division. I'm sure this will be an opportunity to find somewhere better.
G'day John,
Thank you for your kind words regarding the layouts, much appreciated !
Thank you for your suggestion of reaching out to the NMRA Division for possible temporary storage. I guess I'll wait and see where I am heading before I really need to make a decision on whether I take the Miami layout or if I will need to sell it... Never too sure what the future holds ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
Sorry to hear mate, hope you end up finding a place with the right amount of space! Too bad there aren’t any signal boxes in Sydney up for lease 😁
Hope the future turns out OK for you, Gary. Best wishes, mate.
G'day csx-isolawest2011,
I am predicting a good future and I'm sure everything will be fine. I still have a couple of months before I need to vacate this dwelling, but hey, I'm staying positive and who knows what the future holds ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
Wow, you are extremely talented! I hope you find something affordable. With your skills I'm sure you can modify one of your layouts to fit the new space. Take care!
G'day chrisbarr1359,
Thank you for your kind comment, much appreciated. I'm sure I'll find something affordable where I can carry on with my modelling. I am unsure where I'll end up yet, although I do have some time up my sleeve. Then again, the clock is counting down !
Cheers, Gary.
Man, Gary, I’m in the same boat. Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, I’m going to have to move soon as well for similar reasons. It’s tough
G'day PmMW,
Thanks mate. As you are aware, the layout I have built is modular , so there may just be a 'slim' chance I will be able to take the layout with me. As for the other layouts I have shown in the video, one has been sold and two are pending ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
i feel ya pain in regards to model railways in a rental mate, me and the fam are moving up to port macquarie in the next few months hence why i stopped building my layout. I didn't want to commit to one untill i know what sort of space ill have. All the best with it mate 🍻
G'day TSR,
Thanks for your understanding and your kind words.
Rental properties do make it hard to decide on what and where one should/could build a layout. My Miami layout has been built in modules, so with any luck, I may be able to take it with me. I guess I won't know until I am decided on when and where I'll end up. As I work in Sydney, I would like to stay reasonably close to work, but then again, it comes down to affordability... I must add that Port Maquarie sounds nice ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
@Gaz3801 Argh Sydney prices are insane at the moment and here in Newcastle it's getting the same, I actually stole your idea with using those metal bunnings shelves and went and purchased a bunch of them, such a good idea and not something id ever thought of before! yeah mate Port is beautiful definitely keen to get out of the rat race lol
Life has unfortunate bumps. Stay positive and pop-in to let us know how things are going.
G'day Joseph,
I will always keep the community updated on where I land, how I land and whether one or more layouts survive !
Life will always throw curve balls at you and it is how you react that wins the game ! 😉
Cheers, Gary.
Aw Man…such a beautiful layout…hopefully it’ll be moved to a new place
Shame you’re having to sell your layouts Gary - hope you find a nice new home
G`day Gary,
That`s a bit of a shock.
I hope everything works out well for you and if I can help in any way, just let me know.
I`ll be in touch
Cheers
Gormo
Sad day when things like this happen.
G'day Andy,
I knew the day would come, just didn't expect it now ! Anyhow, I will soldier on and I'm positive all will be good.
Cheers, Gary.
😢
G'day garrettlayout6598,
I have had a good run in this house, although I did go throw a marriage break up whilst living here, but I remained positive throughout that, so this is just a little bump in the road. Maybe a fresh start some where else will be a good thing ! 😉🙂
Cheers, Gary.
