Terra preta, bio-char, and hugelkulture all work to put carbons in the soil. Lots of different carbons for bacteria and fungus to live on to break down nutrients into plant usable nutrients. We actually grow more wood in the planted forest (cfa land) than what would grow naturally.

We do controlled burns here. The blue berries grow great in burned areas. Don't forget bio char adds pot ash great source potassium. The old method of making potassium carbonate (K2CO3) was by collecting or producing wood ash (the occupation of ash burners), leaching the ashes, and then evaporating the resulting solution in large iron pots, which left a white residue denominated "pot ash".

I use a pelletized and micronized product called HumiChar. It has worked very well out in the lawn with sandy soil. When exposed to water it instantly breaks down into an extremely fine texture.
Some say sequestering of nutrients is a problem, but all is needed is a little bit of time. The Micronized stuff is extremely quick. The texture of the product you get from BAS does take a little longer, but organic people using this technique will usually let their media cook a minimum of 3 to four weeks. That is plenty of time for an actively cooking tote to fully charge the char.
I'm re-amending my 20 gallon no-til pots today.. All the amendments are already mixed altogether. I'll lay down a little bit of bokashi on top of the chopped cover crop and then apply all the amendments. All that gets watered in with a little bit of playing compost tea with some soluble Great White. Cover crop will be planted a couple days later.
I'll probably plant in a month.

Had a Marijuana freak out on a bus, coming home on leave from the ARMY. Met a guy at the terminal in Killeen. We stopped at a Mcdonald’s somewhere in Arizona. The guy, who was sitting in the back, got out and a circle of co-riders surrounded him. He sparks up a joint behind the back of the bus, winking, and telling us it’s “Dusted”.
What followed was a full-on bad acid trip. The busses’ lights reflecting off of the passing barren hills resembled flames. It seemed as though the bus was going down, faster and faster. I looked across the isle and saw 2 Mexican women dressed in black praying. I hallucinated a Demon sitting across from the driver, telling him to go faster. I felt as though I was sweating blood and thought that perhaps I had died. A cacougheny of insane laughter came from the back of the bus all the while, not unlike a group of hyena. Don’t remember much more.” Dused “ment Angel-dusted, I found out later.

Thanks guys. Being an organic grower is so much more labor intensive than other forms of growing. Often times for less fruit or ugly apples. I use fire pit ash in my outdoor grows. Along with hugelkulture. Down by the fen I dig down to water table 2-3 feet. I dumps some black lake sand sulfur rich or gypsum in bottom of hole. That anaerobic bacteria that have like skunk smell or burnt rubber smell. Bacteria stink. Fish carcass or other rotting protein. Anything that shouldn't go in worm bed. Old school guerrilla grows used to grow by water. Close enough so they didn't have to water. This is what got me thinking some strains like bacterial dominated soil. I could brew tea but don't have time or means. Plus my plants aren't tended. I fill rest of hole with super soil. Some sweet skunks don't like having a wet tap root. Remember clones don't grow tap roots. Which can be useful. My other 2 areas I need to make funnel shaped holes for water. It's dry on the slopes and ridge. So bottoms of those holes get rotten wood. The more fungus and sponge like the better. That punky type wood. Piss on it or through some hot crap on it. Or through green carbons on it. They usually have nitrogen. That wood will suck nitrogen up before releasing it. Wood chips do the same so you should pre charge them like bio char. I grow for smell. I also grow 15 kinds of berrries, cherries, apples, astronomy domine sweet corn, purple pole beans, leeks, and asparagus. Plus collect maple syrup and honey. Cold ask Michigan is the 2nd most agricultural diverse state. Planting slopes with 10 different kinds of auto's and ultimate purple fast photos. To see what grows best. Cheap happy bird seeds.

Good discussion. Hey look into using LAB in our home grows! And using stuff in our kitchens to make nutrients. Very interesting topic that weed growers haven,t discussed. We spend money on bio boosters and recharge when stuff from our kitchens could be a by product of just living.

I use my used charcoal from air filters and fish tanks in my compost bins as bio-char. I get multiple uses that way.
