Merry Christmas, everyone! If you haven't yet seen our video on mourning geckos, don't miss it! ruclips.net/video/L4CHEge5wlc/видео.html It's the perfect way to celebrate Christmas mourning (no spelling error). It has virgin births and gifts that keep on giving. Heck, it might become your new Christmas tradition. Move over Home Alone, one is never alone with parthenogenesis!
First there was “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Then there was “Elf.” Now there’s the time Clint Laidlaw built a baby gecko jar! A holiday classic to be certain! Thanks for all your videos this year! Ever since one of them popped up in my RUclips home page I’ve been spending so much time learning about reptiles that my partner got me a book about snakes 🐍 for Christmas, and I love it! I can’t wait to see the building come together and how this channel grows! Season’s Greetings and all the best in 2020!
I love the idea of using the jar, I had never thought of that. I may have to build an enclosure that makes use of two 5 gallon cheese ball jars glued together to provide a bit more space. Another fun addition to a cheese ball jar would be some hamster tunnel for the geckos to explore in. They're native to caves and would probably love the chance to run around a little cave system. And since you can get such large amounts at one time, when they inevitably lay eggs in it, you can swap out pieces to relocate the eggs!
I’ve wanted a ball python for quite a while now. But my husband didn’t want to start off with a snake. Your video on mourning geckos helped us come to a decision to start our collection of reptiles with one of these amazing girls. Thanks so much!
I love how happy you are all the time. When I'm having a crappy time I just come back and watch loads of your videos. I love your happiness for these animals. This must really be your dream job. X
I put my two new gravid mourning geckos in a three gallon Exo-Terra, though I’m not sure when they will lay/if the eggs will hatch. Once they lay I’m moving them to a ten gallon Exo-Terra
Great with animals. Love your channel. Not so good with power tools. 😆😆 The lid upside down on a wood block would have been a 5 second job. However, you do have a PhD, so I bow to your passion and intellect.
This is super helpful! I'm heading to a reptile expo with an eye to pick up some mourning geckos this weekend, so I'm building along with you. Thanks for such a good walkthrough!
Thank you for gifting us with a video this wonderful morning. I definitely want a little gaggle of Mourning Geckos! Merry Christmas to you and your family! (*spelling)
You are just so stinking cute!! You are so articulate yet sooo personable at the same time. I would watch a video of yours if you were teaching us how to watch grass grow. Thank you. I've always loved lizards. I had my first chameleon I bought at the state fair. He had pipe cleaner on a chain so you could "wear " him..this was long before PETA or other animal advocates. I thought he would like a fly to eat.....mind you in was 7...so I caught a fly and put it with my "Lizzy" and left him under our mesh pool cleaner out in the bright hot Sacraments sun and left him to "eat ". I came back awhile later to find my Lizzy was v Now lizard jerkey. I felt sooo horrible but the lesson was learned. Don't put any animal out in the sun for 6 hours.
Awesome, glad to come back and see youve covered mourning geckos and a baby enclosure setup video! Ive been on vacation but ill def get to watching the other vid and rest of this later! Great content as usual.
Lol, what a coincidence! I just found/caught the mourning gecko that escaped from my dart frog terrarium a month or so ago. Fortunately, she stayed near the terrarium eating the escaped fruit flies and bean beetles. She is back with her sister now.
I really, really want to start bioactive enclosures. I am going to have to practice on some regular terrariums first, but this is a hobby that fascinates me--bringing nature indoors--and when it comes to my critters like frogs and lizards I really don't feel that inclined to take them out and play with them so these guys I think would be wonderful little pets once I get to this level. I love tiny animals.
I searched everything from 'jayson' to 'jaison' to 'jay son' to 'jayson tool' trying to find out what a Jason was...... Then I played the video to find out a few seconds later.....
When we used to drill holes into jar lids, we always sat the jar in a silicone baking mat. This way it wouldn't spin whent the hole saw made contact. Bet the same concept would apply with your silicone mat!
I have pink eye and it’s contagious u need to set it up w a drain + appropriate substrate + manage the temp and moisture levels (figure out what the problem is out of these categories). most cases it helps to have springtails and isopods
What about the food grade clear buckets? They can be like 5 gallons, and they have screw on lids. I just wonder how tight the lids are for em to keep the geckos in
Thanks so much for this video. I have some questions : I haven't understood how can I give them the water, have I to put it in or they bring from the food? can I put some insects for clean and crrate a bioactive enclosure? And they only need the types of food that are written in the description or they necessary need live insects?
are mourning geckos okay in ten-gallons? i have a screen lid for mine that has clips to secure it on. there's no holes (apart from those in the screen because, well, its a screen)

Phrasing Clint, Glorious Holes, huh?
Btw instead doing all of this but only if you want it to be different from others you can get those tiny scorpion enclosures for like 17$
I am cracking up over, "just so if I get pulled over, I'll have a lot of explaining to do.
Clint: repeatedly says "glorious hole"
Me: *squints* "wait..."
"Just so that if I get pulled over, I'll have a lot of explaining to do."
I'm loving these jokes today 😂
Bruhh😂... Clint is too pure for us we don't deserve him.
As soon as he said that I was like aw damn lemme see look at the comments 😅
@@ZombiePeachez Hahaha. Same. Video is currently paused. hahah
Glory Hole! LOLOLO
I checked in the description below, but don't see a link for ordering a Jason.
He's on backorder...
I thought someone would post that lol

he’s in jail for possession of sphagnum moss

Thanks Clint. XD
Also I love Clint’s DIYs because it makes him feel like a reptile dad 🥺
Your videos never fail to brighten my day! Merry Christmas to you all (especially Gus Gus!)
Thank you so much! Hopefully this is the beginning of a great Christmas for you. I'll try to spoil Gus Gus a little extra for you.
Yay! Gus Gus deserves it

You don’t know how hard I gasped about this. A brand new fly rod and now Clint. Great

Clint makes a joke about drugs,
Me: *chuckles*
Also Me: this was an amazing learning experience for baby Mourning Geckos!
The police are always happy to find Ziploc bags full of strange plant material in your car. It's normal.
Half Normal where did he make the joke
TwentyJuanSavvy ! When he was opening moss he said he was going to take it home with him, but he said the police wouldn’t pull him over.
Thank you for softening the sound of the drill.
Where is the amazon link for a Jason? I could really use one but I can’t find a Jason anywhere!
He's on backorder. Apparently he was limited edition...

Mine too and now the Steel Panther song is stuck in my head!😋

Best Christmas special on RUclips
They are just the perfect geckos for a Christmas special.
Literally put out in perfect timing. Just unexpectedly and unintentionally acquired a baby mouring gecko the day you made this video.
This would be a perfect challenge for SerpaDesign!
Thanks for the silicon pad pro tip! I have burned myself so many times while crafting! Your videos are the best! 😀
I know you don't do amphibian videos too often but could you one day make a video on pacman frogs? I love your channel as well by the way!
We will for sure.
@@ClintsReptiles you should do chubby frogs as well

thank you, clint and your team, for working hard and uploading on christmas day.
also, this is a rated pg episode bc of “glorious hole” and the “moss”
The moss I get. I had to look up why people were so excited about the hole. Honestly I'm a little disappointed in people.
Just did this for my mourning gecko hatchling. She’s currently exploring her enclosure right now
Thank you guys for the video, and for muting the power drill, that's one noise that I can't handle, and merry Christmas.

To see how youre building an enclosure for adult mourning geckos would be very interesting :)
I have a few 12x12x18 exoterras lying around!!
Would they be suitable for a few?
If so how many??
Yes, but babies might be able to get out.
Ye I'd be moving them into jars!
Thanks
Based on what I've looked into as far as housing, probably 4-6 could share that space comfortably, depending on how dense any foliage is.
@@bearonatricycle1082 thanks I'll see
i rly enjoy these practical videos 🥰🥰🥰🥰 happy holidays to the Clint's Reptiles team! 🎄🎆
The amount of times Clint said “glorious hole” made me ✨🌿uncomfortable🌿✨
Do some larger cage tips in the future too please it would be a guaranteed watch from me!
We will. As we build Clint's Reptile Room, we intend to do many enclosure builds.

A game changer!
I like how you always say "well hi there!" at the beginning of each video. :D
Might have to add these to my collection! also Happy Holidays everybody
They are difficult to justify not having in your life...
Great video Clint, thinking of breeding these to sell to classmates! 😄 I’ll also make sure to print out some care sheets for them too!
Funnest part: Clint with power tools. Merry Christmas!
A few springtails and maybe some isopods in the bottom as a cleanup crew and emergency food source might be fun as well
Hello . Your videos are really great. Greetings from Czech Republic and all the best in New Year..
Hey there Clint, in the future when using power tools its best to lose the tie. You're probably okay with a drill but its still extremely dangerous.
Merry Christmas! That was hilarious. If you end up with "explaining to do" try to record it.
What seems to be the problem, officer??
Clint, your the bob ross of the reptile world 😂 👨🎨
Hey man... I think I'm that new subscriber... "Officer it's to dampen my geckos hide... not to danken it..."
Clint making a weed joke is giving me life right now

"We now have a GLORIOUS HOLE."
;)
Is this also ideal for a couple of adults
When we used to drill holes into jar lids, we always sat the jar in a silicone baking mat. This way it wouldn't spin whent the hole saw made contact. Bet the same concept would apply with your silicone mat!
We have made one like this for our hatchlings, does it need and light or heat source bulbs above the lid, maybe uv?
Merry Christmas Clint and your reptiles
Great video Clint! It was interesting to watch :)
This is so cool. Please do more like this. Small pet options are great.
How ironic... I was going to go watch a different kind of video after this one that featured glorious holes.
Great follow up video to the morning geckos nice and simple enclosure...
"Im gonna get my HOLE mess"
I dont think he did that pun on purpose but i spotted it
Clint, How often do you clean the enclosure. Both spot cleaning wise and then a full cleaning job?
You could make it bioactive so you don't need to do that and the geckos will have a good supply of bugs to eat
@@AlucardRawks I've never done bioactive. Have any good information on doing that?
Chaostsao look up the biodude josh, he knows everything there is about bioactive kits
Love these videos! Keep up the great work Clint!
Do you have any tips on keeping mold out of terrariums?
I have pink eye and it’s contagious u need to set it up w a drain + appropriate substrate + manage the temp and moisture levels (figure out what the problem is out of these categories). most cases it helps to have springtails and isopods

Clint does the argus monitor take a whole room for the enclosure
They would make good use of that much space, yes.
@@ClintsReptiles ok I can make that enclosure I love australian monitors but I don't like ackies because they are small

Hey Clint, where do I get a Jason? Also are they captive bred?
Completely unrelated, but I just noticed that I have the same watch as you do
I might add, it is a very cool watch!
This episode should come with a NSFW warning. Between the "glorious holes" and the suspicious baggy, someone is going to get in trouble lol
Well I'm glad I have a Jason lmao 😂 I guess I can make one of these LOL. Love this build!! Merry Christmas Clint!!! Have a safe drive home lol.
Yeah, if you don't have a Jason, you should get one, am I right?? So handy to have around.
@@ClintsReptiles lol yeah your right. My Jason is only 7 years old but he definitely is a great little helper. Lol. Very handy to have around lol.
Is this enclosure just for keeping babies? Could I get a bigger jar, say 2.5 gallons, and use that to keep a pair long term?
One question where Can i buy a Jason or will an Andrew do
Hey Clint, quick question, is this a good first lizard if I plan on having one so they can not reproduce?
are mourning geckos okay in ten-gallons? i have a screen lid for mine that has clips to secure it on. there's no holes (apart from those in the screen because, well, its a screen)

Hey Clint, I’d like to know about the care of cat geckos. I saw a few other comments asking the same thing and I’d like to know too!
Merry christmas clint...hopefully u have a nice day

Can I use this with adult geckos (I just started research)
Is there any chance we could see a shingleback skink vid in the near future?
Dude I never knew that's what silicon matts were used for. I bought mine to open jars 😆
