    Yes sir, tall skinny tires are practical. Lighter, better traction, no trimming. Better in every way in my opinion. I like the look more, people pick the fat tires only for looks. 90% don’t even know how to engage 4x4.

    • @kg0173
      @kg0173 2 года назад

      Wider tires help braking, a lot. That is good for safety.

    • @Heywoodthepeckerwood
      @Heywoodthepeckerwood Год назад +2

      @@kg0173no they do not. The smaller surface area of contact on skinny tires causes better grip force per square inch. Also, given the same diameter, wider tires have greater rotational mass resulting in longer breaking.

    • @kg0173
      @kg0173 Год назад +2

      @@Heywoodthepeckerwood "The smaller surface area of contact on skinny tires causes better grip force per square inch." But wider tire has more square inches, so where is the advantage, the overall grip is the same? Advantage could only be on softer surfaces when skinnier tires can reach stronger ground. Greater rotational mass.... I guess the effect should be real small, wouldn't make a difference. Asphalt race cars use wide tires, dragsters use wide tires, sprintcars use wide tires and its about competition there, so they use the best possible.

    Thank you for posting this….(though its 3 years old….lol 😊). Been wanting to put on narrower tires for my 91 land cruiser, however local tire shop did not have any at the time….I ended up getting a set of Cooper’s 295/75R16 Discover AT3 XL….they have been just fine for the most part…..but I have always wanting something a little narrow and taller….seems these Toyo would fit the bill….I like that the tires are much lighter than the coopers and less friction on the ground….Again, thank you for posting this…have a great week from Montana!

    I ran this size in a Yokohama G003 m/t on my Nissan frontier. They performed very well for 8 months until my truck burned in a wildfire I was fighting. I just replaced it with a Chevy Colorado ZR2 and I'm looking at the new Mickey Thompson Baja boss A/T in 255 85 17 which is a 10.5 inch wide 35.

      Question regarding the steel wheels. You mention they're a refurb factory steel, 7" wide. The offset, however, appears perfect when mounted on your truck. Did you use any type of spacer for that? I am unfamiliar with the Tacoma's details in this regard since (don't hold it against me) I'm a Ford guy... thanks for any replies. Happy New Year.

    I put a set of these on my 2019 Tacoma SR V6 and I absolutely love them. Once they wear out, I'll happily have another set installed on the truck. I am planning a regear soon, either 4.88 or 5.29s, Ive got an ARB Summit bull bar with a WARN 9.5XP winch with steel cable, so it's not exactly as peppy as it once was. But I'm happy to see what appears to be a growing demand for 255/85/R16 tires. This may be the Renaissance for the pizza cutter!

    • @pj.walton8811

      What size tires did you have before the 255/85r16? I've got a 3rd gen 4runner and have 265/75r16 on it now with plenty of room. Was wondering how they'd fit compared to the 265. How bad was mpg change?

    • @highplainsdrifter9631
      @highplainsdrifter9631 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@pj.walton8811 I had the exact same tire size as you, 265/75/R16 Maxxis Razr MTs. Awesome tires, but they don't come in the 33 inch pizza cutter size. I have the 2 or 2.5 inch lift Old Man Emu heavy load springs front and rear so I have plenty of clearance. They're fairly tall, I do not know if they would clear a stock height vehicle(maybe)? I think the MPG loss combining all of the add ons with the bigger, heavier tires has been about 2 MPG average, at least that is my estimated guess based on fill ups over the past year in comparison with fill ups and range running the smaller tires and no bull bars/winch. I'm looking to regear in spring, which will likely get the MPG back to where it was. Awesome tires though 👌 They're heavy but they're built like a brick shithouse and the traction is superb. Fantastic in the snow ❄️

    • @applesbighatranch6906
      @applesbighatranch6906 10 месяцев назад

      The Renaissance has begun! for certain. I can smell it. In fact... I'm slapping 33.1" X 10 X 17 onto my '16 F150... Toyo ATIII LT255/80-17... yes, they're 7 lbs heavier per tire than the fat P-Metric 285/70-17 a/ts but I'm getting a 10" section width (YES, thank you) in a true 33" -AND- an E Load Rating for, in my case, off-highway durability. Win/win/win. Safe travels to you, and the sooner you might re-gear the better!

    255s are 10" width which is 0.4 less than stock width of 265 (10.4"). If you were to go to a 33x10.5x15" you'd retain the stock width and still get the 33" diameter advantage (not to mention an additional 0.5"+ sidewall meat). And yes 15" x 6 lug wheels do fit on trucks originally fitted with 16's.

Anyways but then they talk about how great the pizza Cutters look and I'm like wait if when I talk about looks why are you talking about how great they look lol I'm all about traction do you find that 11.5 in wide literally catches less traction than 10 inches wide? Does 11.5 in cover too much ground and make it want to slide while 10in cuts in or just 10in cut in and dig easier while 11.5 touches just enough? Sometimes I feel like it's based on the terrain and how heavy the vehicle is I hate when things are in generalities
