Great review. Just installed some 315 75 16 Toyo AT3 tires for my 1993 FZJ80 Toyota Land Cruiser. Couldn’t be more satisfied. I’ve noticed, right from the beginning, is they are so much more quieter than the KANATI Trail Hogs that were replaced.
I had 3 sets of Toyo AT2's get treadwear warrantied. At only 29,000-32,000 miles they were at wear bars. Alignments were dead on, rotated every 3,000, just wore horrible. And they sucked in snow terribly. The AT3's don't have a high bar to beat...
It's JDM I wouldn't expect anything less just like the Tacoma there's a reason it's an undefeated offroader compared to larger pickups and even it's competition
A few years ago when BFG came out with the new design, the tires only lasted 11k on my truck. No warranty and BFG wouldn’t do anything for me. They’ve since fixed the issue and are great tires, but I made the switch to Toyo on all of my vehicles and love them. I won’t be going back.
Just moved to Toyo’s in my Tremor. My past experience with KO2’s is that they were tough but garbage in wet or slick surfaces. Duratracs were an intermediate, but I find the Toyo to be grippy and the same road noise as the rest. Happy with the change.
I put 4 Toyo’s on my ‘12 FJB Edition FJCruiser 2 months ago. I do mostly highway commuting as it’s my DD. I have about 2k miles on them. Been through some heavy rain with absolutely no loss of traction. I have yet to go off road but in due time I most certainly will. I love the tires! The only thing I could recommend for aesthetic purposes only would be raised white letters to add to the cool factor.
After having KO2's, Ridge Grappler's, and the Toyo AT III's I think the Toyo's are far the best. I think the KO2's and Grapplers win in the looks contest but for a do anything tire the Toyo's are a great choice.
I've been running my Toyota OC AT3s for about 6 months and 2000 miles. 265/75/16 LT. It's they've done great in rocks, mud, water crossings, and pavement. The LTs are a little stiff, but the traction is awesome.
I can remember changing tires 40 years ago when I worked at an Exxon full service station with 2 garage bays. I still have lower back problems from balancing 31”x 10.50’s on a bubble balancer. That’s where the saying, “He’s a half a bubble off!” comes from.
I'll give you my experience with the Toyo ATIII tire. I put a pair on my GMC in Dec. 20 when first released. They are fantastic in the snow. Last year, I used 4x4 less than previous years reverting to rear wheel drive only in some serious snow conditions up here in the mountains of ID. I find these tires to be fantastic. Cannot speak for noise, cause I did not have a true AT tire before the Toyos were installed. But nothing of a problem. They are great in dry, wet and any trail I have traveled. Wear appears to be very good. Ii will have no hesitation to replace my tires on my new vehicle with the ATIII when my new vehicle is finally delivered.
Next week will be mounted five Toyo ATIII in an LT255/80-17 on 8.5"-wide Method 705s... really looking forward to this narrower tire and an offset that results in a fender-flush fit on the truck, tossing the 0-offset, 285/70s currently on the truck. I cannot wait!
Seems like Bf-Goodrich is a very good tire if you're doing a lot of street driving, The falken wildpeak at3w & Toyo Open country at3 seem VERY similar, all nice tires tho. Thanks for the vid, going to try the AT3's on my Cayenne next week. Was going to go K02's and call it a day but a few friends have said to try out the Toyo's. Subbed*
That's an excellent tire, not taking anything from the KO2's. Did the same with my rig, from 3 years of KO2's to Maxxis RAZR MT's. Absolutely happy with these tires and will repurchase again in the future...
Thank you for this video as I’m looking at both tires . Of course leaning towards KO2. My only issue is with ko2 is where I live , it’s wet 9 month of the year . I've had great results with the toyo rt on a heavy 6.0 diesel F350. Snow, sand, mud had great traction, and quiet with good road manners. No spinning when wet, quiet to the end. I'm debating at3 for it's three peak rating, but had such good experiences with the rt, that I've already bought a second set for my other diesel f250. Now I want to try the at3, but should probably stick with what I know works good on these trucks. Both on 35 12.50's, and feel, handle, wear awesome all over. Worlds better than Micky, BFG and other no name china bombs I've run before.
I had balancing issues with BFG's. I've used Toyo's ever since and i don't think they've ever needed more than 3 oz. My BFG's too 4-8 oz and I never could chuck the highway vibes. neither Discount or BFG would help me as they zero'd them out. The manager at Discount wouldn't even go for a ride with me. Factory rims too.

I was looking for some 3PMSF rated tires for my 2020 Dodge Durango GT AWD. They are a little big for the size. So I went from a 265/50-20 T rated, to a 255/55-20 H rated tire. The traction in rain, snow and ice is very good. At 56,000 miles, more than half the tread is left. On smooth roads they are noisier than the stock Bridgestones. But on alligator and other rough pavements. The Toyos are a significant improvement over the Bridgestones. In most all conditions. When the Toyos do wear out. I will replace them with General HTS60 tires. I have AutoSock traction devices for the States that are picky about the 3PMSF rating.
I just did the same swap... 275 60R20 BFG to 35 x 12.5 x 20 Toyo AT III on my Ram 1500. They are a chunky tire compared to the smaller K02 I was running, but look great and ride fantastic. I liked the K02 a lot as well, until they started to wear. At about 50% the compound seemed to get pretty iffy in the rain. Just not as good as they were, which was very good. They are not overly loud on the highway either (Toyo AT III), and ride firm and solid. The new lift helped and the Bilstein shocks and struts helped. So far, very impressed.
@The Insufferable Tool my Ram came with a 3.92 front and rear differentiasl. Super happy with the 8 speed and 3.92 combo, rips around pretty great even with the 35" tires. Not sure what your experience would be. I agree, there is a mileage price to pay.
Havent had the toyo at3 but Ive had the RTs on my Raptor for 5 years now. Im very impressed with the RT quality or toughness. When I had them installed the balance machine was broken so them put them on without balancing and the run smooth, which was shocking to me. I live in the desert and put the Raptor through its paces off road, drive over many different desert terrains at high speeds and Ive never had any tire issues, very tough tires. There are chunks of thread missing from hitting sharp rocks at high speeds but have never experienced a flat or a blow out. Im a Toyo fan for life
Aside from being slippery on Australian roads, I fell the Ko2 is very old looking these days. I have Km3's for my serious off roading but will be getting some AT3's for every day use.
Without listening to another supply issue due to covid I am still waiting for my Toyo here in Ontario. What I know about the KO2’s is guys luv them in their first year off roading and snow but they tend to have weird wear pattern and not much good after a year of mixed driving , Toyo’s I have sold always recieved great feed back from commercial customers who landscape, plow etc…. BTW , Im waiting on the HT /2’s for my Silverado
@@reece5.0hhh58 My H/T II showed up today , got them on now :) , I did notice that they say made in Japan so my size and type must not be made at your plant . Nothing like fresh rubber , these were produced 0622 so guess the slow boat brought them , I ordered and pre -paid in April so about 10 weeks total wait
I had two sets of ATIIs. I ran my first set so hard , I took them down to the belts; Didn’t even know. Drifting for fun. My current ones are at nylon. So sure footed STILL; 90 mph everywhere. I ordered a new set of ATIIIs and some JEG 16x8 Baja rims. Going to “vanlife” my GMC Savanna work van a little because why replace a great van which has been nothing but reliable minus the abuse of having a former CHP officer driving it. :). I have had YOKOs, BFG REVOs. I stand by these. The last thing I worry about. Never buy cheap tires. I lost a classmate to a blowout near the CA Mexico border. RIP Robert Fitzgerald #17001 CTC III-01.
Thanks for posting! I've seen guys with the BFG's say the Toyo's were quieter and others say the Toyo's were louder, but none have posted a before and after with decibel readings. So I guess its close enough either way that it doesn't matter. Would be curious to find out for sure either way
The OEM KO2 from the factory on my Rubicon were complete junk. One tire failed in less than 29,000 miles and had internal ply separation causing thumping at city traffic speeds after 100% street & highway driving. Had a suspension lift done and installed Toyo Open Country MT 37x12-1/2. A world of difference in noise on pavement - the Open Country MTs are very quiet (much quieter than KO2) considering how aggressive the tread pattern is. Highly recommend it!!!
Installing these shortly on a Tundra in Edmonton for a similar use case - weekday highway/weekend warrior with RTT. Camping and hunting truck. By all reports these seem to be a leader for a Western Canadian climate. We'll see a lot less rain and a lot more snow than you 604 guys. Glad I found the channel - subbed.
I'm doing the same thing. My KO's were ok IMO, I had went from GY Duratrac's to KO's 3+ years ago. But for the price, I knew they were nothing special. Ordered my AT3's today. Getting them installed in a couple of days. Going on a 09 Liberty (lifted 3inch). Also switching from a 265 to 245/70 because the 265/70's are just a tad to wide and they rub the rear fender flair and I refuse to trim/cut them up. Looks like the AT3's are just as good as the KO's.
I considered the Toyos vs BFG’s for my truck, but ended up going with the BFG. Pricing on almost all tires went off the charts over the last year or so, and the AT3’s were a fair amount more than the KO2’s.
Just ordered some for my Jeep, want the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT but they are sold out and backordered for months... The Toyo's looked good... mostly pavement these days anyways.
I'm super happy with my KO2s but i would've gotten Toyos if they were any cheaper..they were the same price and i wanted the E rating for going over super rocky terrain in the california desert. Makes more sense for the kind of offroading i wanna do. But i think Toyos might be the superior all around tire.. But those damn KO2s just look so aggressive and fit that 90s baja look. I just love them. So far the ride has exceeded my expectations despite the complaints i've heard about them.
I feel the exact same way; there are a lot of great options and alternatives but I’ve had great luck with my KO2’s as well and damn I just love the way they look!
After a year what's your long term thoughts if cost wasn't a concern what would you recommend the bfg k02 or the toyo o.c. at3? Really looking at these two for my e250 (2wd) that I'm planning as an overland build Don't want something overly noisy for the street but don't wanna get stuck anywhere either. Thanks for any input.
I put 70k miles on my toyo at3 before I took them off. Came with 13.5/32 tread and had 6/32 tread left when I took them off. My Denali is heavy from stereo weight being at about 950 pounds and 20x10 275/55 tires. The did phenomenal but wasn’t aggressive enough for me. Went with the new Mickey Thompson Baja boss At. They are definitely heavy and having balance issues. Ima try again when I get new wheels. Also disappointed to see the syping gets significantly smaller as they wear. Pretty sure ima try out some general grabber atx tires next. If anyone has feedback on the general atx tires I’d greatly appreciate it.
i used to have them on my sierra. they are really nice off-road but the open country at3s on my truck right now we’re more grippy in every way except for really thick mud. the grabbers were louder tire but a really good looking tire. The open country at3 is the best tire i’ve had so far and the quietest. bfg ko2s are louder so it caught me off guard when he said they at3 made more noise
I currently have a 2001 f250 7.3 diesel leveled and I am running BF goodrich KO twos ,I will need to replace these tires within the next two years or so so I’m trying to determine if I need to go to Toyo at3s or keep the ones I have.
nice looking tire, I would assume they perform a tad better in rain and ice than my k02's, the only reason I went with the bfg's was pricing as well as many other comments here. I would try the new open country rt trail next. Also had falken at3w's a couple years ago those were good too but i'm not crazy on the looks of the tire
Wait... so you don't have to remove the beadlock to remove/install a tire? I have a tire appointment in like 3 days to install new tires and I was debating whether or not to remove my rim protectors before getting there to help him out
@Icutmetal easily 50k miles, road trips and daily driving mostly. Boston to KY to PA multiple times. White mountains in NH. Harsh winters. Regularly rotated and balanced. I also pulled 20 ft trailer completely full to KY from Boston.
I’m currently running Goodyear AT’s with Kevlar on my basically stock 2014 JKU Sahara which has well over 60k miles on the tires. I haven’t had much of an issue with them, but I’m looking for something more aggressive. I was told the KO2’s are the way to go, but the more I research the Toyo AT-III’s the more I like them. How are they in the snow? I’m in Chicago and the Goodyear’s suck in the snow.
Since you’ve said that your shop sells a lot of Toyos, have you had a chance to compare the new RT Trails vs the AT3s? I have a 21 JLUR Ecodiesel and looking to go 35s to replace my 40k KO2s. Weight difference is substantial but I’m thinking with the diesel it won’t be that big of a deal.
i have worn out my KO2's after 3 years of driving more on than off road in my 2011 Tundra crewmax. I absolutely love these tires. The problem now is Micheline (who makes the KO2's) doesnt have a date when they are going to manu more and winter is coming soon to Northern ontario. I loved your video and really liked how you compared the KO2's to the open country as having similar treads and handling. Its time for me to change. How did you find the TOYO's as far as tread life, off road traction and wet asphalt?
BFG's are outdated. Toyo At3's or Falken wildpeaks are a much better choice. We sold about 350 Toyo tires in 2022. Well likely do more than that this year, quality tires.
Hey I just got a Smartcap Adventure! What mounts did you use to fit the M8 nuts in the roof tracks? I have a Yakima Jetstream/Skyline Towers I'm trying to mount to it, but I'm having trouble finding mounting solutions for the M8 nuts in the cap tracks. Did you do your own solution?
I have the same wheels with KO2. I hate the wheels mainly because I live on a dirt road and wash my truck all the time and hate the water that collects in the lip. Anyways Im thinking of changing to the OC At3. Are you happy with the change?
I put a set of toyo at3 on my 4x4. Great off road and on a dry road. Scary on a wet road, very hard rubber, that's why they last but wouldn't buy them again
Malcolm you may want to double check to make sure you didn't get the Toyo AT II which were notorious for being slippery in wet weather. That's why they made extra effort with the ATIII.
@@Beacon_Offroad now that you've had more time on them how do you like then compared to the ko2? Never had any ko2s but been really thinking about them. Love the white letters. I'm in a 7000 pound denali and I tow. Care a lot about snow as well. Seeing that you've had them both now for some time which one would you recommend?
BFG KO2 AND K3 ALL ARE TERRIBLE ON WET PAVEMENT OR CONCRETE HIGHWAYS. TOYO TIRES ARE MADE FROM A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RUBBER COMPOUND THAN BFG. THAT IS WHY TOYOS ARE MORE THAN ALMOST ALL OTHER TIRES. YOU WANT TOP QUALITY TIRE RESEARCH , DEPENDABILITY, AND LONGEVITY, THAT IS TOYO . BUT THAT COMES WITH A PRICE. BUT JUST REMEMBER TIRES AND BRAKES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT 2 COMPONENTS ON ANY VEHICLE, NEVER GO CHEAP ON EITHER ❤ !
Toyo open country all Terrain....these tires last a long time...they are hard to balance on after market fuel rims...and they absolutely fail miserabley on wet roads!! But off road on dry land they got strong grip....but in mud...they have no traction! Good braking distance...but anything wet on these tires have zero traction... bought mine brand new and drove 60k miles.... would buy again but if you plan on doing anything with mud or live in a state that rains alot...hell no!
I bought the at3 in f load range for my 2nd gen sequoia overland build. Is the f rating a factor when airing down for offroad? The other option was load range d
How did they balance? Since you installed them yourself you'd know better than anyone. I'm looking for the toughest looking AT that still rides smooth on the interstate, and this AT3 seems like it could be it. Thanks
Not really sure about lighter but the at has to be a bit heavier depending which pkybyou buy. The at is also meant to handle offroad and we've definitely put them to the test. The ht really aren't meant for that and are mainly a road and highway tire.
@@Icutmetal I got that part but I was asking you how they felt when you were hauling things any problems like the tires loosing air or damage to the metal in the tire ?
I’ve run the Toto AT3 for about 30,000 mi they grip awesome in the snow and ice and have very little road noise , and would definitely buy them again!
How did they preform on wet roads 😅
@@os3819 really bad
That’s also what I’m discovering. My new Land Cruiser is sliding all over in the rainy weather. Not what I was expecting.
I sold tires for several yrs. Toyo has an incredible quality control system unlike alot of the cheaper companies.
That's Discount Tire's installer's opinion too. They rarely have a balance issue unlike KO2''s. "They are a good tire but they have heavy spots." 🙃

I work at toyo the only factory in US and we putting out alot them so it's not the factory side when I say alot we do 22k every day.

My H/T II showed up today , got them on now :) , I did notice that they say made in Japan so my size and type must not be made at your plant .
Haha, thats awesome. Sorry for your loss.
Great video. Very clean/organized shop.
Thanks for posting! I've seen guys with the BFG's say the Toyo's were quieter and others say the Toyo's were louder, but none have posted a before and after with decibel readings. So I guess its close enough either way that it doesn't matter. Would be curious to find out for sure either way
Quiet when they are new is one thing. Miss a rotate and either one will start to get noisy.
I just did the same thing and around town I’m very happy with my AT3’s compared to the K02’s.
That’s probably partly because the factory KO2s are c rated not e rated
Installing these shortly on a Tundra in Edmonton for a similar use case - weekday highway/weekend warrior with RTT. Camping and hunting truck. By all reports these seem to be a leader for a Western Canadian climate. We'll see a lot less rain and a lot more snow than you 604 guys. Glad I found the channel - subbed.
I still have yet to try i the snow but it looks like next week were getting some. If not, were heading out to the mountains to find some.
Just go toyo AT3 on my Ranger so far a great tire
Oh I know, we get price increase email almost weekly. Here in Canada or at least in BC toyo and bfg are virtually the same.
Funny I just bought 4 toyo AT3s brand new for $1200, that’s installation, balancing, and alignment. The KO2s were almost $1500 for the same thing
@@EthosEater Ok, whatever you do- don’t mention what size. That wouldn’t have anything to do when comparing tire pricing 🤦♂️
Id definitely recommend the At3's. Since then weve also sold dozens of them at the shop. Customers are happy.
Tony Stark is that you in the final thoughts? Lol sounds like him 😂
Do you have a size comparison on the ko2 vs the at3? I remember my ko2's ran a little smaller than they were suppose to
I put 70k miles on my toyo at3 before I took them off.
Toyo tire are the best. AT3 are loud on highway but it isn't that loud as a mud tire but the AT3 will get you out of the mud easily. BFG is old.
nice looking tire, I would assume they perform a tad better in rain and ice than my k02's, the only reason I went with the bfg's was pricing as well as many other comments here. I would try the new open country rt trail next. Also had falken at3w's a couple years ago those were good too but i'm not crazy on the looks of the tire
Wait... so you don't have to remove the beadlock to remove/install a tire?
I have a tire appointment in like 3 days to install new tires and I was debating whether or not to remove my rim protectors before getting there to help him out
This guy is a badass!
Nice rig 👍👍
Running the same tires...can't wait to see ya put em thru some abuse
In March we're headed to moab, grand canyon and Sedona 🤘
Also which tires consume more gas quickly?
Any thoughts on how these two tires might compare to the Falken Wildpeak AT3W or Cooper Discoverer AT3 or BF Goodrich Trail Terrain? Thanks.
Looking good boys ! Hey , I would try them too if I was saving some coin.
Thanks, fortunate to be able to take advantage of things like this, can't let it go to waste lol.
My KO2s are going bald after 2 years lots of miles and want to try different but similar and want the toyos this time.
2 years…great…but what mileage, what driving habits, and in what conditions?
@Icutmetal easily 50k miles, road trips and daily driving mostly. Boston to KY to PA multiple times. White mountains in NH. Harsh winters. Regularly rotated and balanced. I also pulled 20 ft trailer completely full to KY from Boston.
@@user-tj9ks1zv7k There’s the important context…
@@Icutmetal anything else?
Hello guys Is my T60 Maxus 2.8L good for Toyo AT3 tyres ?
I’m currently running Goodyear AT’s with Kevlar on my basically stock 2014 JKU Sahara which has well over 60k miles on the tires. I haven’t had much of an issue with them, but I’m looking for something more aggressive. I was told the KO2’s are the way to go, but the more I research the Toyo AT-III’s the more I like them. How are they in the snow? I’m in Chicago and the Goodyear’s suck in the snow.
Personally I feel the at3 is slightly better in all aspects over the ko2.
Do you think a 2.5" lift for front and rear is enough for that 285/75r17? And what offset would you recommend? Thank you
285/70R17 would fit, but 75 can't say, might fit with a little bit of trimming
Since you’ve said that your shop sells a lot of Toyos, have you had a chance to compare the new RT Trails vs the AT3s? I have a 21 JLUR Ecodiesel and looking to go 35s to replace my 40k KO2s. Weight difference is substantial but I’m thinking with the diesel it won’t be that big of a deal.
Do those rigs have lockers on them?
i have worn out my KO2's after 3 years of driving more on than off road in my 2011 Tundra crewmax. How did you find the TOYO's as far as tread life, off road traction and wet asphalt?
thanks for the video! helped me pick which tires to buy for my taco! did you put spacers on?
So a year later, what’s your opinion of the Toyo’s compared to BFG?
BFG's are outdated. Toyo At3's or Falken wildpeaks are a much better choice. We sold about 350 Toyo tires in 2022. Well likely do more than that this year, quality tires.
I would done the same too get rid of the k02
are the Toyo's louder than KO2's?
Id say that against the norm. These tires excel in wet weather traction.
Malcolm you may want to double check to make sure you didn't get the Toyo AT II which were notorious for being slippery in wet weather. That's why they made extra effort with the ATIII.
f150 eco 4x4. AT3 seem to slip in wet conditions.
I’m sure it wouldn’t have anything to do with your driving habits.
Did they mention how they balanced, if not how did they balance??
How have you liked the Toyo's? I'm looking at going 255/80/17 on a method 701 17x8.5.
I think they've been great..sold numerous sets to customers and all seem to be happy.
Do you know the tread depth on those tires brand new? I’ve seen the same size tires but the tread depth varies before.
13.5/32nds
mint video!!
Any update on the RT's? I want these so bad for my 5th gen. thanks
hi, are you running the 110H speed rated version? and is it possible for you to check the actual weight of 265 60 18 version?
Nice review! How does it perform so far on our wet BC climate? Currently with BFG KO2 and they sucks on wet road.
Strange, my diesel pickup gets along just fine.
If I'm replacing the wheels and tires, do I need to get an alignment as well?
Thank you. What is the biggest tires with no trim and no lift?
Toyo open country all Terrain....these tires last a long time...they are hard to balance on after market fuel rims...and they absolutely fail miserabley on wet roads!! But off road on dry land they got strong grip....but in mud...they have no traction! Good braking distance...but anything wet on these tires have zero traction... bought mine brand new and drove 60k miles.... would buy again but if you plan on doing anything with mud or live in a state that rains alot...hell no!
My bighest use case is mud, sorry to hear they suck at that.
Hey boss truck need to lift ?
Are those faux beadlocks?
@@AggyGoesOutdoors correct
I bought the at3 in f load range for my 2nd gen sequoia overland build. Is the f rating a factor when airing down for offroad? The other option was load range d
Why so heavy?
How did they balance? Since you installed them yourself you'd know better than anyone. I'm looking for the toughest looking AT that still rides smooth on the interstate, and this AT3 seems like it could be it. Thanks
We sell tons of At3s at my shop. They balance out with no issues and drive great on the highway and do very well offroad.
Nice truck 👍 ✌️🇨🇦
Thank you.
WELL anything is better than a BFG . Even a 15-year-old bald tyre would have more grip.
I thought I was listening to Robert Downey Jr for a minute
I get that alot, lol.
Still like the swap?
Absolutely. We sell a lot of Toyos at the shop. Our top seller.
which is lighter in handling A/T or H/T?
Not really sure about lighter but the at has to be a bit heavier depending which pkybyou buy. The at is also meant to handle offroad and we've definitely put them to the test. The ht really aren't meant for that and are mainly a road and highway tire.
What size rim/tire set up
Sorry - I can’t find it - do you have a link?
Is the minimal difference between a 285/70r17 and a 295/70r17 worth the extra price and weight?
I'd stick with the 285s.
@@Beacon_Offroad interesting. Thanks for your reply
Hi there does the white 4Runner has wheel spacers on it?
It did with the Tacoma wheels. Not with the new wheels we installed in this video.
What kind of wheels/rims are these?
Do you carry a chainsaw with you at all times i would hope. Would suck to get stranded if a big tree fell onto the road.
All the time. Always prepared.
Toyo's are good if you like donuts.
Are you at OK Tire?
Yes, OK Tire Surrey-Fleetwood.
How are these tires when it comes to hauling things in the bed can they handle weight ?
Why the hell wouldn’t they be able to?
@@Icutmetal I'm no expert but I heard that tires have weight and tow limits that's all I ment
@@ArkArmy90 Right, so if they’ve got the adequate weight rating, just like any other comparable tire, then…

Depends on the size you’re looking for but some are rated D or E
