I actually think you are right, though the algorithm is a tough thing to grasp, and I think it changes over time. Either way my plan to get feedback has not materialized in anyway shape or form, go figure...., but, I seem to have punk'd the system and the video is quite popular. Honest man's opinion. Take it or leave it. Now let's see if an SLA print can be watertight or not, so I can decide if I should buy an sla 3d printer or not

Here's the reason that I just gave you a thumbs down on an otherwise solid video. "Don't be a pansy" and "Man up" is terrible language. Do you talk to your clients like that? Because you're talking to your *potential* clients like that. It also demonstrates that you have a thin skin, never a good thing for a designer. Since I've never given you a thumbs-down before, consider this my critique and feedback for this specific video.

    • @EricStrebel

Thanks for the feedback, not what I was looking for, since it's just about the rant. Seems I punked my self and the algorithm, kind of out designed it you could say, I am certainly not the first RUclipsr to do this and definitely not the last. Also seems that the algorithm does not care if it's thumbs up or down. I do appreciate the interaction though. Have great day and thanks again for the interaction.

not a downvoter but I'll comment.. the content seems fine.. dont let trolls get under your skin. Downvotes happen.. some people do it just do be perverse. When you let it start to infect your content by being combative with your energy that energy starts to spiral. ..soon you have negative feedback coming because of your reaction to negative feedback, and so on.
Even if they were to comment.. the gross majority are not content creators, they are consumers. Even the ones that are genuine in their dislike may not know 'why' or how to do better, thats not their job. You do fine, have confidence in your product and make positive content for your supporters instead of subjecting your supporters to negativity stemming from those who were nevere here for you.

Alright Eric, I'm going to man up. Gotta do it. I've watched lots of your vids but I don't think I've ever commented. So here it is......your work is incredible. It's inspiring and I always learn a ton of stuff to apply to my own builds. Your work is completely unrelated to what I do but the types of thinking you apply to your projects, your problem solving skills, and your attention to detail is universal.
So from one youtube maker to another, you gotta know you are doing great work. Both your projects AND your videos. Don't let the haters get to you, it's part of the game, it's a sign of success on the platform. And if nothing else remember that as far as RUclips is concerned a like and a dislike are exactly the same. It's engagement. Each thumbs down encourages the bots to show your videos to more people.
    Have a good one Eric.

I don't know why youtube recommended this video to me, but whatever, I'll check it out. The aggressive/entitled challenge to downvoters to explain themselves was pretty odd, but I can see how it would be irritating if there was a someone with multiple accounts or a group of people who for some reason were targeting you. But I just did a quick survey of about 15 of your recent videos and ... you don't have a downvote problem. Just about any video will get a few percent downvotes, and who knows why. That is just the way it is.
So getting back to this video, I know have context, and yeah, your rant was out of place. Don't get personally insulted that it happens; it just does.
As for me: I didn't vote on this video, as my interests are very different from what you do; I have no opinions about it. But now I get why this video is getting so many downvotes.

Instead of using clear paint, maybe you can try carpenting "polyacrylic" finish. For the internal surface, just pour some in, shake it, and then pour it out for future reuse. The polyacrylic have good surface tension, so it will tend to stretch on it's own while curing producing smooth surface, saving you from sanding.

    • @etaaramin9361

I'm not saying that is what's going on with your videos, but it's certainly one explanation.

I like most of your videos. I always like your content. That said, I have observed that are often the youtubers who defy/confront their viewers, who receive even more backlash. It just never goes well. You can't do anything about it. It's how this platform works.
The creators who handle it best, just move on and focus on the content. They also address the audience as if we were clients or guests at your space, inviting us to hear what you want to share. Getting a 15-20% dislike ratio should make one wonder if there is anything one could improve: why other similar channels get better feedback? What do they do that I am not doing? what they don't do that I do? I would ask myself those questions. There's room everyone on YT no matter how unique your channel is. You don't have to change your style; just nail down what works that you also enjoy doing and stick to it. No one comes here to watch a rant. Most don't like drama either, unless it's channel about drama. We come because we like what you do and how you present it ...most of the time, anyway. The gist of it for me is: "I clicked on a video about "X subject". Well, then show me X subject, thanks" So that's my 2 cents. I spent some energy putting into words the dislike I gave you during the intro. I hope the feedback is appreciated.

    cut your nails
lotion your hands (remember to get the webbings). bring the same level of care to your hands as the products and processes you show. we see them too
not sure if you change up the song for the timelapse very time but personally i don’t like the music. not sure what i would pick if it was my video though. not sure if this has utility in terms of improving, as probably the best thing to do would be just to pick what you like. but thought i’d share.
    as far as people disliking:
feeling and putting into words are 2 different things. in personality science they’re actually on opposite of a spectrum. so people will dislike something and might not be able to put it into words/want to / be to lazy to try / dont want to be negative as this culture tends to frown on criticism of content, being a bit too praise heavy. or maybe creative people tend to be optimistic and that carries into the content culture. just my thoughts on it. at the end of the day though it’s useful to ask for criticism.

3:50 long hold of eyecontact, feels severe, awkward, uncomfortable. same point can be made by, before pouring the stuff, thud the mask and gloves on the desk and cut to putting them on, which the safety voiceover.
4:26 clearing your mouth sound. can easily detach audio, cut that bit, and mute it
there just a bunch little things like this.
another thing was white balance from the varying light sources, one of the earlier shots was pretty warm.

Instead of spraying, we do dipping: just dip your "clear" SLA part in a 1 part polyurethane(or slow curing 2 part) and slowly retract it out of the liquid. The slower the pull, the thinner the layer will be. No drips! And the thickness of the layers is perfect everywhere.

Another great video, Eric. I don't think it pays to fight the thumbs down'rs. Haters gonna hate and RUclips actually rewards you for those anyway because they count it as engagement. Just keep cranking out quality content and you will keep growing. It looks like you are targeting potential customers too so you probably don't want to show an adversarial side if you want to make a good first impression on potential clients.
This video had great content and good flow. One constructive criticism... I always skip the part where you introduce yourself because it's too long to just wait through it after the first time. I think most views come from non-subscribers so I can see why it may be important for it to be there. If you haven't already, look at your retention graphs. If you get dropoffs there it's probably worth dropping, shortening or moving that section. If you don't get dropoffs then it's not a problem.
Thanks again for sharing. I shared this video in one of the resin printing groups that I'm in.

The moment you show that you are affected by something someone says or do, people (humains... maybe) will try to get that reaction out of you.
I admire your desire to probably improve yourself with potentially critical comments... thats awsome.

As an avid RUclips watcher (came here from Hackaday) - **almost every** RUclips video has dislikes, and your videos are in the "normal video" ratio of dislikes. I don't know the reason why people dislike individual videos, I personally rarely do that, so it's baffling for sure. However, one thing that you never do is complain about it.
It's pointless, the people disliking won't really listen to you - they have their reasons to press "Dislike" and they probably won't speak up in the comments, hell, no guarantee they even watch your video in full. However, for the people that actually like your videos, no matter if they press "thumbs up" or not, they came here to listen about interesting things - but you're spending their time talking about people that disliked your video, a minority of your viewers for which you don't even really understand the varied reasons behind the action you define them by. When worded in a confrontational way, people might thumbs down your video because they're confronted with a negative thing when they just wanted to watch interesting tech content, or just for the contrarian sake of it.
Some people will like your video, some won't. However, the dislikes are actually overrepresented on YT compared to likes. How? People are more likely to "thumbs down" a video they disliked than they are to "thumbs up" a video they liked. This is similar to people leaving negative feedback on stores, they readily do it, but to get positive feedback, you have to ask.
I get your problem, however. Some people that "thumbs down" your videos actually have useful stuff to tell. Since you are interested in feedback - I suggest you word this differently. I.e. "Like this video? Leave a thumbs up. Dislike it? Leave a thumbs down, and please leave a comment suggesting what I could do to improve my videos." People that actually leave dislikes meaningfully (some don't) won't feel attacked, but you do remind there's a way to let you know what is it that they're not comfortable with. Granted, not all feedback deserves to be taken into account, so don't worry. There are people out there that will dislike you simply because they i.e. dislike your voice =D
