    11:14 In order to damp the bouncing up and down, you could probably use a PD or PID controller instead of a P controller in the altitude range where the throttle is decreased. In other words, make the throttle not only a function of altitude, but also of how quickly the altitude is increasing or decreasing.

    Several years ago I (a software engineer with no aerospace engineering experience and only basic calculus knowledge) started a project to build my own flight control software in Kerbal Space Program using the kOS mod to see how fast I could learn. I got to the point where I began introducing my PID loops but I think I was trying to do too much at the same time. My goal seemed simple: given a fixed point on the ground, circle that position at a specified altitude, speed and radius, in a halo pattern, kind of like what an AC-130 gunship might do in popular video games. I tried getting the speed/throttle loop dialed in first, but had a very hard time zeroing in on the correct parameters. I learned a whole lot, but eventually got overwhelmed and put it down. More videos like this might help give me the confidence to pick that project back up and give it another, more educated try.

    • @gordslater
      @gordslater 3 года назад

      I think a little more wingspan may help reduce the twitchiness too, I've suggested some angled winglets. The bigger the air cushion volume the more support it will have, hopefully damping out some instability. Real ekranoplans have a lot of mass but also a lot of lift IGE.

    I tried an inverse delta wig a few years ago and had the same problems. It either plows the front or does a backflip. Built a Bixel type (the sled looking one) after that and it was so much better. Naturally stable in ground effect and in free flight. I think it's the best type of wig type for rc scales since GEVs are supposed to be naturally stable in ground effect with just airspeed to control the altitude.

      Using the throttle for alt control is not really the way to go. Throttle response is way too sluggish, the motors take time to spin up the props and increase thrust and the airspeed, which leads to a lag in the altitude response by the f/c and causes the aircraft to gallop. There’s no way the f/c can preemptively throttle up the motors in time for the upcoming the decrease in altitude regardless of the PID settings, it can’t see into the future, and so will always be a second or two behind the game due to the slow thrust response.

    You're missing one thing: gyroscope.
    The thing with proximity is it only measure the height but not the momentum. You hit the minimum height with already too much downward momentum, it's a bit too late.
    Imagine if it can start throttling as soon as it start going downward from ideal height, and otherwise.

    • @crationis
      @crationis 3 года назад

      Gyroscope ... You mean accelerometer ?
      They don't need a gyroscope nor an accelerometer... basic physics :
      - Position
      - Speed
      - Acceleration
      They have the position, a simple derivative give them the speed..
      Getting the speed form acceleration is not as easy nor accurate.
      "Imagine if it can start throttling as soon as it start going downward from ideal height"
      Okay but ... they already know when it gets downard because they have the lidar. What's missing them is what is the perfect spot

    Could you implement a propellor in the reverse direction with separate throttle control to possibly add air speed control?

    So the big question is: Can we find that song on SPOTIFY? If not just publish it with CDBaby

    The music is comedy gold! That alone got you a like.
    Awesome rc plane experimentation! It is just stunning what electronics one can use for hobby purposes these days. :)

    What makes this the “air effect”, instead of merely a plane that is controlled to stay near the ground??

      @@RogerBarraud I have since learned, that drag e.g. from wing vortices is much lower if you simply stay in that region. There's a beautiful illustration involving birds in this vid ruclips.net/video/_Cq0ffFiJUY/видео.html

    when you say ground effect .it makes things complicated . but if you say high and low pressure . it makes it like 10 times easier to understand just by looking at it . this is why I have my own way to understand things because I need to be faster than usual to do things that I usually do .

    I like the moment when small plane flies with stability and bit of instability successfully.

    Ground effect is effective to about half the wingspan. This explains why small models need extremely precise altitude control, as the sweet spot is VERY small.
