Just got the twig. Two shaves in and I’m loving it! Started single blade shaving like two months ago with a cheap cvs double edge razor. The twig has given me the two best shaves since starting. No irritation or nicks like I had been struggling with my original razor
@@OhioShaves major difference! I couldn’t not get razor bumps under my chin and neck with the cvs razor. Only a couple shaves in but so far really glad I made the switch to the twig
Great comparison!!! I pick the Merkur 34. It is just a timeless classic with an amazing design. Looks extremely elegant but it is tough at the same time. You won’t break it fast. Loads the blade without snapping in half or anything which is good for beginners. Has a pronounced angle , kinda falls into it when shaving. Has very little overhang. Medium aggressiveness. Got to love that razor. Keep the great videos coming!
Melocchi Sinatra - well put. Crosshatch grip is very shiny and timeless. It is very rugged and extremely heavy. It is meant to be used everyday without wear and tear. It pleasantly surprises me how easily the two piece safety razor assembles. Subtle overhang allows to hold the blade flexed and aligned while connecting the head piece, so you won't have any blade twist. It is so superior to 3 piece razors.
@@MeteCanKarahasan One of the best parts about it’s two piece design especially regarding beginners is that it is much more durable if dropped. Because the impact will be absorbed by the lower plate or the handle and you don’t run the risk of breaking the thread. So the risk of a fall rendering this razor obsolete is much lower than that of the three piece razors. Also over tightening is not really an option with it either.
If you like a mild razor the Henson AL13 is wonderful. I always get a great shave. I also use a feather blade. It’s so simple it doesn’t feel like there is a blade in it. Yet a great shave evey time.
Toward the end of the vid you discussed the need to find or use the proper angle for the razor and face. I never struggle with this. I always naturally use the needed angle without putting any effort into finding the needed angle. My usual razor is King C Gillette Safety Razor. I have occasionally used other traditional safety razors.
I get a better shave by doing so. With a mild razor going with the growth my angle is key to remove enough hair for the final pass against the growth. If that makes sense?
@OhioShaves what a great detailed educational breakdown of wet shaving products. I hope the information I sent you was informational? I noticed my BBS the next day after using the Leaf Thorn. The Thorn is underrated low-end aggressive.

I read a lot of recommendations for the Merkur and the Twig but for me it comes down to where I will be shaving: My head. I think that gives the Twig an advantage. More forgiving of the blade angle and a mild shave.
I love both of these razors, but I have to give the slight edge to the twig for me. Both fantastic razors though ! My top mild razor is the Henson AL13 ++ . Love it !
@@OhioShaves If you like mild shaves or typically get irritation the Henson is a great razor for you. If you really like blade feel, it's definitely not for you. After watching this video i decided to buy the twig and try it. Coming from the Merkur 34c im curious to see how much easier it is. You have a great channel.
@@OhioShaves first shave with the Leaf Twig and Feather blade combo with like 6-7 days of neck growth. Not one cut. And because the head is narrow I was able to do some good lineup/ detail work around the mustache and beard area. I'm sold man. Thanks to your channel I got upgraded.
The Merkur 34C is stupid dependable imo. While I don't own a Twig, I've read nothing but glowing reviews. If you're looking for other mild alternatives or just curious about some vintage razors for a change of pace, the Gillette Tech, Gillette Super Speed and the Schick Krona are all butter. Keep the interesting & fun videos coming.
I'm struggling to get a really good shave with my Twig and Feather combo. I can't get bbs with it no matter how many passes I make. It's primarily my quick and dirty razor now, just to look clean shaven, but I can feel a lot of fine stubble when I rub against the grain. Is it just me?
@@OhioShaves What's sharper than a Feather? I've used a Personna Platinum and got the same result, which is why I tried the Feather but, well, you know. Also tried the Leaf blade in the beginning. All largely the same result. Idk
I think the twig is a great razor I don't see why you would need a more aggressive razor. Maybe, if you were head shaving but then they have the leaf razor for that.
hey dave what plate do you use for the 6c, i tried the 5 plate and had SO MUCH blade feel it was really uncomfortable. but im new to that razor only shaved with it a few times. merkur 34c is my daily driver. so smooth, so effortless, so comfortable. my all-time fav razor hands down. nice video!
Any tips for shaving between the lips and the chin? Mine dips in a lot, and while I can go from lip to chin following the curves, when I try doing my second and third passes I find it hard to get into that area since the blade is flat
I have the 34C, the Twig, and the 6S. I still get my best shaves using the 6S with a Nacet blade. The 34C is 2nd. I don't use the Twig often enough to be fair.
@@OhioShaves I would go with the 6C for a beginner. 6 plates from very mild to somewhat aggressive. All 6 settings give smooth, comfortable, and nick-free shaves.
@@BartBuzz So someone coming from the 34C to the 6S? Is it a very easy swap over? And what head Blade? Would you say the 34C is equivalent to a one? Two or three? Thanks!
@@tugboat8475 The swap over was very easy. I would say the 34C is between the R3 and R4 plate. The biggest difference is that the 6C/6S is a much smoother shave and easier to find the shaving angle. For me, the 34C has a narrow shaving angle and I have to focus to get the same shave I get with my 6S. Another advantage of the 6S is that you can test each plate to find the one (or ones) that give the best shave. Hope that helps.
@@BartBuzz Thanks for the reply to get a real smooth shave on the 34C I need to do three passes. Will the Rockwell still require three passes? I think I will order one. Just trying to work out a way. You have to try the Merica’ razor from Wet Shaving Club. Stainless steel and Made in the USA. It’s the closest thing to a Rockwell 6S while being half the price.
No I have not. I have reached out to them and had no response. I would love to try that razor and give it away for free on my channel. Do you have an in?
