It’s utterly bonkers to me how a piece of clothing or accessory can be associated with what’s in your pants. Like it’s an object, what that gotta do with my thingamajig.
As someone who is autistic and never understood gender and it's weird social constructs I whole heartedly agree. These things always confused me as a child and I didn't understand why boys couldn't wear skirts when in my head i was like "don't they have stuff down there? Wouldn't it be more comfortable for them?" I've always been more comfort and functionality over looks and "social norms"
> autistic That's why you dont understand gender. You have no interest in fitting into society. When I was a kid I saw how men dress and associate that with how a man looks. It's that simple. Nothing to do with practicality, its just identifying a social norm in society. People dress the way they do to fit into social contexts because they care about how others see them. I don't think there is anything weird about this. You dont say offensive things to your grandparents, yet in the end they are just sounds coming out of our mouth that we associate meaning towards.
The good thing is that nowadays most of us can express ourselves and ignore gender norms, even with societal backlash, and hopefully it's gonna be more sage and accepted over time.
Get rid of norms by making more norms. Not paradoxically or anything, good idea, though the millions of years of evolution and human history just so you can Virtue signal. Great good for you GOD BLESS
0:11 - Pink was never a muscular colour. It was used primarily for summertime to hint to ladies that you are single and only in certain cultures, it was never a world-wide thing. 0:26 - Males are colourful because females like the vibrant colours so they pick mates that have them. While males don't care about heir or colours of others. Similar how single human males would wear vibrant colours such as pink to give hints that they are ready to mingle without imposing on women that have no interest. 0:42 - Tailoring was a luxury and tailored stuff is harder to maintain and repair. You can take a look of Arabic/Indian/Scottish and some other recorded fashion how they were not actually wearing a dress but one giant cloth blanket that is carefully folded in a specific way that it covers the entire body and seems like a modern dress by our current standards of fashion. Having sleaves was considered a luxury and it is one of the reasons why there is a difference between nobles and pheasants in fashion where dresses of nobles were tailored to look like dresses. Why? So they can decorate themselves with symmetrical symbols all over their body. It is hard to design a blanket that when folded properly into a dress does not seem a bit off with the location of decorations. So, the clothes were tailored to fit the body of the wearer instead. Wearing a single giant cloth folded in a specific way was just cheaper for poor people and pheasants had different values than nobles when it came to fashion. 0:49 - Long nails and hair were not ever seen as feminine. It's merely yet another status symbol of the nobles. A symbol of lack of labour. You can't have long nails and work with tools. You can't have long hair when you work with fire. You can't have long nails and hair when you work, that is a fact. Long nails and hair were just a status of the rich. 1:08 - Women wear heels so their body looks perky. It Makes your behind and chest pop out, that is the reason. And yet again, it was another thing invented by nobility. High heels have no actual use except as a status symbol of not having to walk around a lot. If you ever had a girlfriend, you would know that heels were not meant for walking, and if you were to take a woman to a date that is longer than 4 hours her shoes would come off and she would complain about pain. Heels are just a status symbol of wealth. TLDR - None of these things you listed are feminine. They are invented by the rich to flex on the poor that they can afford to be lazy. They are not used by men because they are not practical. And the reality is that men will always pick practical over flashy because men are the majority of the physical labour force, and they can't work in high heels with long nails and long hair. So fashion follows occupation/trade I guess.

You do have a point.
It isn’t any more bonkers than nearly every other part of every culture, which is fundamentally arbitrary at the end of the day

yup, I agree!
As a trans person, dresses being “feminine” makes it easier to pass, and they’re optimal. So it’s a win-win for me
