There are very few circumstances where the concept of “animated herobrine fight” sounds appealing to me. The moment he appeared in the last episode made me feel a level of hype similar to Super Mario Bros Z, which is to say a lot.
I really like how well the monster school characters were implemented here, they were all support-like. Endie is always teleporting the gang/mobs out of trouble, or to fight King Orange. Skellington always hitting his arrows, distracting King Orange, regardless if they are helping or not. And Spider is always in some way, trapping King Orange with his webs, either to make him unable to move, or just to create some sort of distraction. I love Alan for bringing these characters to the fight, and the shorts in general. They have a special place in my heart, the whole Monster School students.
It’s always amazing how goddamn emotive these stick figures and Minecraft characters are. Even Herobrine, with completely whited out eyes and no moving facial features, in his extremely minimal screen time in this fight, shows controlled anger, confidence, protectiveness, and the genuine fear that only a god can feel when it bleeds for the first time.
I love how King Orange was so strong that he only failed not due to the power of the Animations and of the return of the TSC's power, but because of empathy. That he lost his conviction to go with his plan due to Purple.
Gotta be honest, I don't love that. Awesome as this fight is, and it is pretty awesome, it loses a lot of the emotional tension to me on a second viewing because of how completely invincible King Orange is at every point. They never once manage to Faze him or make him slow down in any manner. He's briefly reset at the start of "each new character joining" but pretty effortlessly retakes the upper hand in seconds once the cliffhanger is over. Watching six kids get beat up by god isn't that emotionally resonant at the end of the day.
@@riolufistofmightI hate that I have to agree with your comments on the king just bossing everyone and everything around. Like, The Second Coming couldn’t stop him? The combined efforts of both the most powerful in game entities and seasoned fighters couldn’t stop him? Even when he lost his staff, the plot would easily just shift power straight back to him. It became less “will they win this interaction?” and more “how will he beat them up now?” as time when on throughout the series. It just ruined the stakes for me. And I think him throwing everything away, while heartfelt and has a contextual reason that was setup with the flashback, is just rushed through. Suddenly, after all this time, him being pushed away by an energy beam is what makes him link the two together and throw it all away. I think this is too fast of a development in his actions. He quickly throws away all the set up he has been doing the entire time just over that instance reminding him of his son. That’s another thing. King only saved them just by merit of purple appearing as his lost son in that one moment. It makes me wonder if the king is delusional to so easily let a single moment of connecting the similarities purple share with his son be enough to make him throw his staff and run unprompted.
