I enjoyed your video, it was a kind of a sit on the edge of your seat the entire time exciting. I could not tell, but did you put a twist in your hold-down straps? A twist in the straps keeps them from flapping in the wind, they will be less likely to loosen up and they'll probably last longer. I surmise you'll add a gallon or two of DEF in the bed of your truck along with your spare hydraulic oil and other maintenance stuff, especially when you are out in the middle of no-where like that. Even with the drama, it makes for a great video, however I never wish bad things to happen to anyone out trying to make an honest living just so I can see a good video. I also think in this case, you were better off having that Ford Super Duty than you would of a day cab tractor trailer or sleeper truck. I think the 4x4 helped you on those narrow slippery roads. BTW, a set of road chains for your back tires may be a good idea. They are a pain to put on and take off, but you can do it without jacking the truck up and they might save your butt in bad weather since you are in some fairly desolate & cold areas.
and this is what every truck must do. Tell them that they can stick that shit right where it belongs and then boycott most of what makes them money. food, soft drinks, alcohol all for the money
Would be pretty cool if you recorded when you stop and check your load and just update us on where you are and any concerns you have and maybe get a tripod and record yourself loading and unloading the trailer haha also u need a gimbal for better stability with the videos
It should be a law that you carry a container of DEF, you always counted on Def being at the gas station but not this time, you have to plan ahead, maybe make a check list that you can go by, of what is needed for the truck/trailer- like spare tire for both, filters, DEF, serpentine belt, bearing for trailer axle if they are not the press in kind, windshield wipers, etc. I noticed that your lights weren't all that bright probably dirty, but you driving in N.S. and N.L. where moose, deer, caribou are a big problem with vehicle damage, serious injury and even death, add on a couple more LEDs and especially now with the salt on roads which they love. Take care and safe travels!
Instead of blaming everyone else about lack of DEF, maybe you should admit that it's your personal responsibility to make sure you always have enough DEF in your vehicle, and extra along with you at all times
It only takes 1 good time of sitting on the side of the road with no way to get help to learn 5 gallons of diesel and oil and 2 gallons of def and 2 complete sets of filters in the toolbox on my kw everything to change a tire belts and plenty of food/water supplies especially winter season it might not be you in the accident but its possible to sit for hours behind one getting cleaned up
JAG drivers who go 700 km in to the middle of no where should carry everything they need and more. You’re dumb if you don’t have everything you need to get yourself going again on hand. A simple bed tool box with all the essentials in it is a good investment
No way around it the ecm reads everything. Reductant injection, reductant level, temp, dpf pressure variance. You'd have to emulate inputs at all the sensors and gut the dpf to trick the stock ecm
It's only my opinion, but yeah the truck won’t even run if it doesn’t have DEF. but Diesel engines built before the 2010 model year aren’t required to have it
@@Mygfisawesone Like I said you guys, get an older diesel. I've over time rebuilt and upgraded my 1990 Cummins Turbo Diesel, to include new interior, new exhaust system, better insulation, modern sound dampening, etc. Also installed a Borgeson steering shaft to replace the crappy Dodge plastic-coupled one. I get Mad Max type respect everywhere I go, driving a 1st Gen. 12-valve, the granddaddy of them all. And thank god that engine is still being manufactured. In fact, the Brits are upgrading their Land Rovers by putting my engine in them! You can even impress the eco-retards with the fact that by owning an older diesel, you're preventing another brand new diesel from being manufactured.
Don't know about up in Canada but in the US, yeah. Truck stops sell it at the pump, right next to the diesel nozzle. I always top off when I fill fuel.
I own and operate a boat Transportation company in the USA... Murphytransportationandlogistics.com...We run dodge's. Just so you know... DEF is only 30% urea. The rest is distilled water. It has absolutely no effect on the way the truck runs or drives. If you find yourself in this situation again, you can safely add distilled or spring water in the DEF tank. The truck will not know the difference, and it won't hurt a thing. I hope this helps.
My truck going 5 miles an hour is 2k rpm. My truck at 60 is at 1200 rpm. How is it safer for the environment when my RPM is 800 RPM higher, using more gas at that higher rpm. These politicians have no idea how transmissions work and how they allow you to obtain a higher speed. They just think, "Fast is bad cause reasons".
Aren't you required to document (and do) Pre-Trip and Post-Trips daily? If you did them everyday like any good professional driver should you wouldn't have run out of DEF. I carried spare light bulbs, 2 cases of DEF, tool kit, couple gallons of oil, Power steering fluid, etc. It's the driver's responsibility to make sure the truck is properly fueled and safe to operate. I've driven for close to 30 years and all your excuses won't stop DOT Violations and Fines. I'm sure Canada is very strict about those rules like the US. Do your Pre-Trips and Post-Trips and these things will not happen.
You may have not been able to get DEF when you needed it but you could have gulped back 6 double doubles and you'd fill that DEF tank in one shot half way down the road.
Although I am a chevy guy, I own 2 '92 F350s with the old IDE 7.3 engines. I replaced the rubber fuel lines with viton lines and seals and now they will run on biodiesel, old veg oil, old motor oil, and I can probably burn horse piss if I need to.
Does it damage a selective catalytic reactor(SCR) if you run it without DEF? or, does it just allow a little more NOx if it doesn't get the uric acid, and return to normal, once added?
@@connorvelthuis2221 I didn't even think about the lift pump, I thought it was gravity fed, with the DEF tank above the SCR. So, I guess it's pressure fed, which makes sense. It would help atomize the fluid into a fine mist entering the reducer.

I am someone who drives a tow truck and I would have to play around with it a little since the one I drive is gas and not diesel but there should be a way to not allow your truck to cut back the power if you run out of DEF.
this is why you dont buy a modern diesel. buy a old one or delete it. you'll have issues eventually if you run def. i dont do hotshot driving but i used to do otr, i have an actual cdl a. now i haul piggyback semi trucks. they loaded his trailer back heavy which makes going up hills and going down hills a royal pain. you want most of the weight over the drive axels for a smoother ride and better pulling. also its better to just use your breaks after going 5 to 10 mph over the desired speed instead of lightly applying them on steep downgrades. that light pressure heats up your breaks so when you actually need to use them they wont work as effectively. this is why his breaks were burning. use your engine brake and only your pedal brake in emergencies also manually shifting your transmission in an automatic will save your brakes too. the key thing to remember avoid using your foot brake as much as possible going down steep hills until you need it, because going down hills like that sometimes theres accidents at the bottom from people doing just as what he did and they loose their brakes and run into something, THAT is when you need your foot brakes, not before then.
If it ever does leave you at the side of the road again, disconnect the batteries and leave sit for 10min then reconnect. The ECM will forget how long it's been out of DEF and let you go another ~106km lol
what if you had lost power going up that 18 percent grade? many places here in MN you'll slide backwards if you stop moving forward. that should be illegal or there should be waivers for certain areas. plus def is stupid expensive to use and to repair the system. i'll stick to my 7.3 lol.

I was driving a Pensky Straight truck for 400km and at 275 km it went low on DEF and started slowing down turned towards a fuel station by the time I got there It's max speed was 60 kph missed my hotel reservation and had to sleep in the cab... brrr got in the room by 7 am best 6 hours sleep I ever had :D customer got they're Sound and Lightening on time fuel cost went through the window
Now thats a real dad
I have mine set up to show def as a gauge on dash ...2019 f350
How?
I like your Moose Stabbing Technique on the DEF. LOL.
Love your vids! My roots are in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Love your “can do” attitude. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas.
If they make us out this in our trucks, they need to mandate it’s availability as well! Government bureaucrats literally don’t care about us.
I dont know, I straight piped mined and deleted the DEF
and this is what every truck must do. Tell them that they can stick that shit right where it belongs and then boycott most of what makes them money. food, soft drinks, alcohol all for the money
If DEF is mandated then it should be on a pump right next to the diesel pump!
Most places it is
6:19. What ya mean your a boat ???? LMFAO
Would be pretty cool if you recorded when you stop and check your load and just update us on where you are and any concerns you have and maybe get a tripod and record yourself loading and unloading the trailer haha also u need a gimbal for better stability with the videos
Ford should send you a F550 to thrash on just for the Ad potential.. Best Hotshot content on RUclips hands down!!
I think either a bent axle or running overloaded so often is your reason for the inside tires wearing how they are?
Can also be a tire pressure issue. I would say overloading is most likely.
Good production, great phases and cuts 👌🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦
Instead of blaming everyone else about lack of DEF, maybe you should admit that it's your personal responsibility to make sure you always have enough DEF in your vehicle, and extra along with you at all times
Cool video I enjoy watching it that hill was crazy glad you made it up
When will you learn to keep extra fuel and DEF on the truck? I’d keep extras of all fluid belts,& filters in the truck.
JAG you must not a be a driver just a armchair quarterback talking about something he knows nothing about.
Love the adventures you go on. Badass
Get a 1990's Diesel, put some money into that and call it good.
Or, short the sensor in your DEF tank.
Isn't DEF sold in most fuel stops?
No. Most of us in wa state do the deletes.
Don't know about up in Canada but in the US, yeah. Truck stops sell it at the pump, right next to the diesel nozzle. I always top off when I fill fuel.
Somehow 2 year's later watching this again and didn't even realize I had already watched it. Must be tired today I guess. Lol
The government mandating your making a buck doesn't fuck the environment.
You may have not been able to get DEF when you needed it but you could have gulped back 6 double doubles and you'd fill that DEF tank in one shot half way down the road.
hmmm you tow crazy ass over weight loads , but wont delete the truck me no understand
Although I am a chevy guy, I own 2 '92 F350s with the old IDE 7.3 engines. I replaced the rubber fuel lines with viton lines and seals and now they will run on biodiesel, old veg oil, old motor oil, and I can probably burn horse piss if I need to.
I'm pretty sure LeMans drivers drive more gentle, they try and do a hot lap everywhere they go like there in the Baja 1000
Does it damage a selective catalytic reactor(SCR) if you run it without DEF? or, does it just allow a little more NOx if it doesn't get the uric acid, and return to normal, once added?
Vincent Robinette not usually. It will destroy the lift pump for it though.
@@connorvelthuis2221 I didn't even think about the lift pump, I thought it was gravity fed, with the DEF tank above the SCR. So, I guess it's pressure fed, which makes sense. It would help atomize the fluid into a fine mist entering the reducer.
And that’s why you delete the damn thing as soon as you get it
Bingo. More government BS that costs us money while contributing nothing of value. Same reason to do an EGR delete and free up the motor.
if you delete it then you void out the mfg warranty.
I'm fairly new to the diesel world. But won't the EPA come for that ass if you delete the DEF? Or it one those they have to find you first kinda things?
@@heathj7794 They really go for the shops that make the pipes and the tunes. The only real worry the truck owner has are state troopers who look to see if you've deleted it or not
@@heathj7794 Its like speeding, its only illegal if your caught.
Def is corrosive that trucks bed is toast
let me save you some time. NOTHING happens. there I just save you half an hour.
repoman Thank you for your service
@@jrflores9518 you mean military? no I am not military. I wish I was able to be but eye sight wouldn't let me.
In the old days we carried snow chains just for weather like that.i guess they must not sell them anymore or he would of had a set.
I know the feeling stomach in your throat ! sadly better gravel than frozen ass black top props man ...
I would love if you could include maP or location of these big hills. Im interested more and more and would like to see
If it ever does leave you at the side of the road again, disconnect the batteries and leave sit for 10min then reconnect. The ECM will forget how long it's been out of DEF and let you go another ~106km lol
Love your videos man I feel like you deserve much more subs than you have
what if you had lost power going up that 18 percent grade? many places here in MN you'll slide backwards if you stop moving forward. that should be illegal or there should be waivers for certain areas. plus def is stupid expensive to use and to repair the system. i'll stick to my 7.3 lol.
Lock the rear differential when you start to slip in 4 low
Great videos. You are the man.
Manic 5 is huge, I’ve been down that road a few times
