To explain the nature of wushu swords. The wushu broadsword is not meant for combat. The flow of the slashes of the sword wraps around the body as opposed to straight sword which is expanded and finessed. If the sword was sharp, then the athlete would have numerous cuts. When the athlete is going at a high velocity with the sword, the broadsword can still break through skin because of the metal. Even though the purpose of the sword is not to hurt someone, they are not toys either.
Contemporary wushu is not meant for violence or combat. Wushu kung fu focuses forms and weapons. Martial arts is also more than just fighting and conflict. These are martial artists who pledged their whole life to the discipline and meaning. They have put in many hours to push the levels of their abilities. Wushu has only one opponent and that is yourself.
