Just can’t stop crying over this. What a gorgeous Bear she was. Gave us all so much. Prayers for Spirit I can’t imagine how lost she must feel how horrible to see her mother killed by a humans car!!

Beautiful tribute to this beautiful Grizzly. So loved and so missed. She will live on in her offspring and in all the hearts that loved her so. R.I.P Queen 399😢😢
@susancoddington6393 for 28 years, I've watched her and it's such a tragedy but one that we all feared each day with growing population of Jackson and little management for her safe travels
@@outsiderimages I’m so sorry for you because you have watched her for so many years it’s devastating to me who’s only followed her since the birth and successful emancipation of her 4 cubs. As humans we are so careless with this world that we live in we have more than enough but we always have to take more and more and give nothing back. My only consultation is she was not hunted down and shot as a trophy I always worried about that
@lancechennault1231 I graduated high school when she was born so I've been fortunate to see her entire life flourish ✨️ Hope her passing is a wake up call to local law and wildlife to create better protocols in management of grizzly in and around Jackson and the park to ensure more safe passage on public ways for our grizzlies and wildlife safely 🤙
@@cag2102 It goes a little deeper....she was famous because she was an exemplary sow and a prime specimen that wildlife biologists learned much from and her legion of fans adored. She had an unusual relationship with humans that she was able to take advantage of for the safety of her record number of offspring.
@@bigriver3278 Want to know the relationship she had that no one talks about? Probably the main reason she lived so long? I personally and hundreds of other hunters over those 28 years fed her and her cubs every single fall into December many years with elk gut piles. That is 100% fact.

Lovely tribute. I've shot hundreds of photos of her with the quads over the 2 years she raised them. My wife and I were supposed to go last month to see her with her latest cub, but life got in the way and we could not. Really sorry now we couldn't. Hope her cub will be OK. RIP 399, you truly were the queen of the Tetons.

@CatherinaBaby.1928J she was crossing the Snake River heading up to Signal after just getting out of the den. This was early spring of 2022 the last year with the quads
Major loss for humanity! She galvanized our attention to the challenges faced by wildlife as they struggle to survive in an environment increasingly threatened by human activities.
Nature has got to be one of the worlds greatest creations. It’s an honor to get to live with these creatures in my lifetime. Some of these I’ve seen in real life. I’ve seen pictures and videos. I’ve got to experience these bears in person in the wilderness and it’s amazing, it’s crazy to think that humans lived amongst these animals now it seems like we live above them. These creatures have changed their ways for humankind navigating our paved roads fences, and yet they still are the wildest things on this planet.
sad ending to such a beautiful bear. Grizzly #399 was so much more than a bear. She handled her world growing smaller and smaller with tenacity and aplomb. She has been cremated and her ashes scattered in the Grand Teton area where she spent most of her life. Her last cub named Spirit has not been seen since her death. I hope and pray he survives the winter........
I didn't know 399 but it seems she was a legend in her own time. What a wonderful lady. Her babies will live on. It makes me angry that some moron did this careless act of stupidity.
We arrived in Jackson the night she was killed, (for our semi-annual vacation to see 399). Went to the approximate scene, (they only said "about the 126 mile marker") which is in Lincoln County. The location of the carcass was in Teton County. Now they say it occurred at the 126.9 mile marker, still in Lincoln County. We checked from the 125 to the 127 mile marker and no sign of blood, pre or post crash skids, car parts, nothing to indicate the area of the crash. The blood and drag marks were still on the road 12 miles north though, in Teton County, where the elk carcass was hit. Interesting don't you think? (I'm a retired Crash Investigator so I had to see for myself). They cleaned up the site of 399's death but not where the elk carcass was located (I have video of the blood stained road where the elk carcass was). I was checking the scene as we just couldn't believe she was in the road. it seemed more likely the driver may have been crossing onto the shoulder some and that's how 399 was killed. We may never know how it really happened.
Thank you so much for sharing your fact finding. And thank you for loving her. Coming twice a year. Tears so many tears and Prayers for Spirit and all the people that loved her.
They said they will let nature take its course. They said he should be fine. That she had taught him what he needs to know. From what I understand, they were fixing to go into hibernation and when they awoke they would part ways anyways. They do think he will find a den.
I worked in the park this past season. The cub was huge. Normally he would stay with Mom until June of next year. I am hoping if he can hibernate successfully, he might make it. His chest marking will make it easier to locate him next spring.
She dedicated her life to " SHOW US ALL" What rules, laws ( not working) NEED TO BE CHSNGED, UPGRADED? SO this will never happen again? The SOLUTION IS: First CARE 2nd Speak up 3rd. Does anyone know what happened to her last cub? The one that was born last year when she was 27 years old? That would mean that that cub had not been “pushed out of the den “yet.
Devastating. This kind of heartbreaking tragedy to the beloved creature bear 399 death by accident won’t be the last one, It is because of human selfish acts in nature. Bear 399 like her cubs and others would have been killed by brutal hunting, accidents or euthanizing anyway. Bear 610 will have similar destiny. Montana, Idaho and Wyoming have been pursuing delisting of grizzly bears from endangered species so they can massacre them. They intentionally left the wildlife unprotected in the roads, so they get killed. Crowds should not travel there. Wildlife has no right to live a natural life if humans don’t want so by occupying their space.
continued....We walked the roadway at the publicized location, (126.9 mile marker), and yes, the roadway and the shoulder were cleaned up VERY well. There were no pre-impact skids, blood marks, scuffs, hair, or drag marks, and no post-impact skids or blood stains. I went out to the scene the next morning, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday looking for anything to suggest a crash had occurred - NOTHING. I get it, the Lincoln County Sheriff is trying to keep everyone calm, I guess. But the interview they gave said the Deputies determined, by the damage to the vehicle and size of the bear, the driver was doing the speed limit of 55 MPH. I guess this is new "magic" they have now in determining minimum speeds in crashes. Also, remember, this crash was investigated by the Sheriff's Office, NOT the Highway Patrol, as their Trooper was busy on a rollover DUI crash. I wish they were a little more transparent with their (lack of) investigation. I don't believe 399 would have been in the road or jumped out in front of the vehicle. This is also not a blind spot on the road. We'll never know I guess.
Why this is so beautiful !! She represents endurance, tolerance, sacrifice, innocence, beauty, strength, love & hope. ❤
