Thank you for this one, Nate. It's my favorite Cat Stevens song, so when it showed up this morning, I went to work on it right away. Was able to learn it pretty quickly thanks to your great tutorial. Just need to practice more to get the muscle memory down better.

So excited you posted this. My son plays the guitar and we have been thinking of a song to play together and this one is a good fit for our voices. Pretty easy chord progression … my biggest challenge is playing the chords and getting the timing with the lyrics.

My son is used to playing in concerts from his music background but I’m a neophyte when it comes to playing together because I’ve never done it before and I’m so conscious of messing up the timing. I seen another version of this on youtube where he played the left hand bass note at the 2+ count. For example GBDG BDG then left bass note G. Do you think that is necessary
Play around with it and see if you like it better with or without! At the end of the day, we're interpreting a guitar/rock band arrangement into a piano part, so there isn't a definitive right/wrong or necessary.
Unfortunately, I am still having issues with nerve damage making it impossible to use my left hand at worst, painful to use it at best. That's relatively new issues on top of my normal chronic pain issues that have always made it difficult to keep up with learning piano, so I've been away from regular practice for a while now.... However, if there was one song and teacher combo that could motivate me to push through.... It'd be Nate teaching Father and Son. Hmmm.... How do you think it'd sound with just the right hand for now until my left heals up? Lol
Im sorry to hear that! Chronic pain is the worst. Don't push yourself, but I think this would totally still be enjoyable to play and sing with just the right hand!
