I just realized. Mephiles has reptilian eyes. Green, evil snake like eyes. Then it hit me, the Prototype of The Ultimate Lifeform was The Bio Lizard, a giant monstrous reptile. Which kinda lends credence to the idea of Mephiles representing Shadow’s inner demons and dark past. It’s an extremely loose connection with little else holding it up, I admit; but it was interesting when I thought of it.
Always found it odd how they play the old "Knuckles gets tricked by Dr. Eggman and fights Sonic, only to realize he was wrong," card, instead of exploring _Shadow's_ evil side more (after Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06), and how he struggles with staying good. Sort of like Vegeta and Loki. A mental reincarnation of Mephiles would be pretty interesting to introduce into Shadow's psyche, or a physical reincarnation if they can somehow justify it.
In the game files, there are TONS of deleted cutscenes in all stories and even the final episode, and after the solaris fight, which meant there might have been a conclusion to mephiles and shadow in the later builds of 06? FYI, the retail build of 06 is a prototype build as shown by missing cutscenes, gameplay elements shown in the E3 demo, XBLA demo and TGS 2006 demo, missing shaders and different story opening in the manual as well.
7:45 - I never thought about it that way... But it's true. Remember the first interaction Shadow had with Eggman in SA2? Shadow acted towards Eggman in a very similar way Mephiles acts to Shadow now. Shadow was tempting Eggman by promising him what he wanted, while lying to him about his true intention. He didn't intend to rule the world at Eggman's side, he wanted to destroy it. Shadow now turned fully good, but I wonder what went on in his mind looking back at the reflection of his past self in such a manner. Maybe in the future if Mephiles ever appears again, Shadow might want to attempt to... "redeem" Mephiles. To give him chance to get to the same path he did. But that would be a mistake. Because Mephiles is not a person but a demon. No mercy or good will can never work with him. And that's the way Mephiles could abuse Shadow's good nature in the future. He tried to abuse Shadow's more evil tendencies like lust for revenge - and it didn't work. Now he can try to abuse his compassion.
I stil think the Same thing I said the last time in your "why sonic fans still want mephiles to come back video" that I don't want mephiles to return because they will ruin him for what his character is or represent. I would love to see mephiles return in a way that still does make him a interesting Villain, as 06 try't to do. With his character still being the same but with diffrent motivation. but I know that with all the bad comidic type of story way sonic games like forces, colours, Generations, and lost world type of games trope would still continue in future. It'd be pretty cool if Mephiles actually returned as an antagonist to Sonic and friends, but mainly on Shadow. Seeing how things recently made Shadow a complete opposite since Sonic 06, I find it jarring that Shadow being handled by the writers is just wrong. But the question is how would things played out if Mephiles were to return? Well, lets take an example from Kingdom Hearts. Riku goes through a similar arc to Shadow by learning his mistakes on fully giving into the darkness and not keeping his balance of the light in complete check. Ansem the Seeker of Darkness plays in a bit of a Mephiles type role trying to convince Riku just so he can regain control over his body as a vessel. In KH Chain of Memories, Riku has an encounter with his replica self, who pretty much wants to be the real deal only to be defeated and face oblivion, only to make a return in KH3 as a self an inner angel giving Riku the power to face the darkness when searching for Aqua and taking down Replica Riku 2.0 to sacrifice himself as the world already has a Riku. Now you're probably wondering what I'm getting at here, but I'll try to sum it up in the most simple way possible. Seeing how Solaris got destroyed at the end of Sonic 06, in a rewrite Mephiles and Iblis would be separated again instead of reverted back to normal like in the game, both Iblis and Mephiles would be lost souls trying to find new homes to seek vengeance against Sonic and friends in some degree. Iblis being Silver's inner demon and Mephiles being Shadow's. Iblis being a complete monster would have some of Mephiles's traits and Mephiles has some of Iblis's as well since they both fused together into Solaris. For their new forms I may have some ideas in mind in the making if you guys would like to see my designs of them if they were to return as Shadow and Silver's demons. As for the inner angels, Maria would be Shadow's angel and Silver's would probably be Elise and or Blaze due to having the power of flames in their bloodline, but since Blaze is from another dimension and Silver is from the future it'd likely make more sense for Elise to be an inner angel as Crisis City must have been a future corrupted Soleana and Silver must have heard stories of the princess and Solaris during his youth against the battle of Iblis. Back to Mephiles, Mephiles would serve as a reminder to Shadow if he were to go down a dark path, he would take his word for it and not follow the darkness Mephiles warns Shadow about and challenges him if he goes against what Mephiles wants instead of Shadow, he'd put up a fight with his shadow powers and part of Iblis's fire powers (having a bit of a yin and yang demon like battle).
One other thing about Mephiles, I posted this comment on one of your oldest videos "Could Mephiles return". So I figured why not bring something up from the under a flood of comments. Here's what I originally said: I think your idea could work, but in my opinion, something about Shadow the Hedgehog, the game not the character, seemed to be a little out of place. Granted I understand why it's there in a story telling point of view, but Doom being a link to Mephiles's origin sounds... I don't know, pretty lame since Doom and the Black Arms are not really that great of villains? How would I change Mephiles's backstory and plot holes? Although Iblis and Mephiles combine into Solaris, the light and the time destroying monster, their origin will be a little different. So this is gonna be a long comment. Let me know what you think about my idea. Origin: The government of Soleanna along with the assistance of GUN, they try to create 2 different types of weapons. The operation goes wrong when GUN and Elise's father try fusing Mephiles and Iblis and goes haywire like many fictional bio weapon projects, as Rouge in 06 said a prototype generator failed (which was something we didn't see). Both Iblis and Mephiles try to get away but both were stopped when Mephiles was sealed in the Scepter of Darkness and Iblis with (I'm going to make this one up) a magical Crystal Ball of Light. With both of them sealed away, the people of Soleanna takes the crystal ball and scepter back to their laboratory in Kingdom Valley and Aquatic Base and unfortunate news of Elise's father's death from the outbreak of the project is sent to Elise herself. Over a decade later, Dr. Eggman would later come to the land of Soleanna to find a potential new base after his last defeat and somehow notices a hidden lab in the ruins of Kingdom Valley. However, he didn't expect that the place was filled with other scientist and holds them hostage and gets them to reveal what he wants to know like why they're doing all the way out in the ruins and Iblis and Mephiles after hacking into the database recorded by Soleanna's scientists and GUN. Desperate to know, he seeks out Elise as she knows the answer to freeing Iblis's seal along the 7 Chaos Emeralds to make a time machine of some sort. As for Meplihes's seal, it be easy since Mephiles is just a pile of goo and dark mist. Characteristics: One part of Mephilies I wanna cover is when he summons a future Shadow in a container, as I don't know how he manage to summon that thing without time traveling. So in this case I'm going to add that he has the power of reality, like how Thanos used in Infinity War when talking to Strange and tricking the Guardians to getting Gamora. He would use it to show Shadow what became of him instead of just seeing himself locked up in a container and for Silver to motivate him as a reminder of what to fight for. Another thing to make things interesting, Mephiles would be all knowing considering he would know people's thoughts, feelings, hopes and desires just to mess with them sort of like Slade when he was playing mind games with Robin in the first season of the original Teen Titans. Since Mephiles is literally the mind of Solaris and time itself to a degree with the ability to time travel, he would know what to do when manipulating people into his master plan without them knowing. The reason for wanting destruction in the game is a little to farfetched, but in my take it were to be say destroy the way history of humanity was made because to Mephiles he feels they tried to destroy him when fusing him with Iblis for the first time, being very painful since both of them were not ready to join together, not at their prime with their powers, and were too distant from each other's light and dark. Over time, Mephiles would be able to handle the elements of Iblis, and Iblis would handle the mind time and reality when joining together. For killing Sonic, instead of making Elise cry to break the Iblis's seal, I'd say just to get Sonic out of the picture so he doesn't interfere with his master plan due to how crazy fast and strong Sonic is. One more thing to add to the mix is a new item for Iblis and Mephiles to join together when fusing, that would be the stones of Light and Dark, that way there isn't too much light and darkness and can maintain balance. Now the stones would be very important as both stones are separated in 2 different places. One place where it's dark, abandoned and lifeless while the other is light, surrounded around people of life.
Here's what Sega should do: Update the graphics, get rid of bugs and glitches, and resale the game as Sonic 2020. Then, we'll have the greatest Sonic Game ever, and we'll have our perfect God of Darkness back in a Sonic game!!!
It would be nice... If SEGA came back to finish fully 06, add deleted stuff and fix "bugs". 06 is good game but if it was finished it would be amazing.

I have to say, this video is amazing, and I think you're right, and Mephiles should return some how and haunt Shadow through his adventures. You should team up with Galrious64 as he is working on a rewrite of Sonic 06, and I think it would be fun to see a colab.
Mephiles the Dark is really awesome and important character in the Sonic universe and I think he should come back and stay as a weird body form as Shadow after Team Dark fight over Mephiles's clones army too and stay as Shadow's enemie or his own rival too. This isn't how I remember it... I remember Shadow and Mephiles being gay lovers until Sonic ruins everything and Omega shoots Mephiles, breaking up their relationship due to Shadow bringing his friends. Then they go into a Game Developer War and then Mephiles uses the Power of the Piss and Weed Gems to battle Shadow.

Great video! Yea, we need Mephiles back though I'm iffy on it due to Shadow's new voice actor not having the same A+ level the other voice actor had for his character.
He is the Doctor Finitevus of Sonic games. Both are fricking creepy and dark, both want to use one of the main characters in their evil plan (Finitevus used Knuckles while Mephiles was trying to use Shadow) and both are responsible for realesing incredibly powerful Gods, Mephiles along with Iblis created Solaris and Finitevus Hexed the Master Emerald so Enerjak's Spirit could Posses Knuckles.
I'm just afraid that any reappearance of Mephiles would require a retcon, and also just be really poorly written. I'm fine with Mephiles being a one-off villain, since he has a complete story here that ends in a somewhat satisfying way without compromising his character. I don't want him to get the Shadow treatment, which is something that I feel will inevitably happen if he shadows Shadow throughout multiple games.
Something I couldn't help but notice while listening to the main themes of the trio is that only two of them have a reference to Mephiles in the lyrics. His World, Sonic's theme has "Intergalactic continental champ running things, hyperactive instrumental and pulling strings" referencing Mephiles' plans to sacrifice the world's future by playing puppet master from the background, while Dreams Of An Absolution has "All the preachers, all with their lies", talking about Mephiles essentially being a psuedo Satan and feeding Silver and Blaze misinformation in order to kill Sonic. Meanwhile, Shadow's theme is mostly about him and how he intends to define his own path after being used by people with ulterior motives repeatedly. It just goes to show that Shadow has seemingly already conquered his inner demons.
The timeline began to crumble, and the infinite black void was closing in on him. Realizing he was doomed, he summoned all his power to do everything to keep himself alive in some way. He split in two once again, the fiery blaze fizzling out, and the shadow shattering like a broken mirror. His body, mind, and soul spreading across the different timelines. The largest shard flying to a timeline similar to the one it originated from. Now he lives in the darkness, taking his shattered pieces, and trying to become one entity again...
As amateurish as I am when it comes to Shadow since Amy is my girl, I think Eclipse from the Archie comics is Shadow's best foe or a close contender. Especially since he actually had a side that cared for other people besides himself.

Hey so look I like shadow and mephiles' dynamic because it furthers shadow's character development but mephiles isn't really that great of a character and I can tell you guys why one his design is a recolor which is unfortunate cause there was probably alot of different things they could've done with it and beyond the whole being shadow's shadow thing there isn't really a good reason for his design two his plan is convoluted he's constantly shooting himself in the foot and besides shadow everybody is being dumbed down to make mephiles look like a cunning puppeteer instead of him actually being a cunning puppeteer mephiles is a good villian concept but his execution isn't and he's kinda overhyped

Ansem the Seeker of Darkness plays in a bit of a Mephiles type role trying to convince Riku just so he can regain control over his body as a vessel. In KH Chain of Memories, Riku has an encounter with his replica self, who pretty much wants to be the real deal only to be defeated and face oblivion, only to make a return in KH3 as a self an inner angel giving Riku the power to face the darkness when searching for Aqua and taking down Replica Riku 2.0 to sacrifice himself as the world already has a Riku.
Now you're probably wondering what I'm getting at here, but I'll try to sum it up in the most simple way possible. Seeing how Solaris got destroyed at the end of Sonic 06, in a rewrite Mephiles and Iblis would be separated again instead of reverted back to normal like in the game, both Iblis and Mephiles would be lost souls trying to find new homes to seek vengeance against Sonic and friends in some degree. Iblis being Silver's inner demon and Mephiles being Shadow's. Iblis being a complete monster would have some of Mephiles's traits and Mephiles has some of Iblis's as well since they both fused together into Solaris. For their new forms I may have some ideas in mind in the making if you guys would like to see my designs of them if they were to return as Shadow and Silver's demons. As for the inner angels, Maria would be Shadow's angel and Silver's would probably be Elise and or Blaze due to having the power of flames in their bloodline, but since Blaze is from another dimension and Silver is from the future it'd likely make more sense for Elise to be an inner angel as Crisis City must have been a future corrupted Soleana and Silver must have heard stories of the princess and Solaris during his youth against the battle of Iblis. Back to Mephiles, Mephiles would serve as a reminder to Shadow if he were to go down a dark path, he would take his word for it and not follow the darkness Mephiles warns Shadow about and challenges him if he goes against what Mephiles wants instead of Shadow, he'd put up a fight with his shadow powers and part of Iblis's fire powers (having a bit of a yin and yang demon like battle).
One other thing about Mephiles, I posted this comment on one of your oldest videos "Could Mephiles return". So I figured why not bring something up from the under a flood of comments. Here's what I originally said:
I think your idea could work, but in my opinion, something about Shadow the Hedgehog, the game not the character, seemed to be a little out of place. Granted I understand why it's there in a story telling point of view, but Doom being a link to Mephiles's origin sounds... I don't know, pretty lame since Doom and the Black Arms are not really that great of villains?
How would I change Mephiles's backstory and plot holes? Although Iblis and Mephiles combine into Solaris, the light and the time destroying monster, their origin will be a little different. So this is gonna be a long comment. Let me know what you think about my idea.
Origin: The government of Soleanna along with the assistance of GUN, they try to create 2 different types of weapons. One to travel through time reality and memories, and the other on the elements of Earth. Operation codenames, LIGHT (Iblis) and DARK (Mephiles), if you got a better operation name let me know. The operation goes wrong when GUN and Elise's father try fusing Mephiles and Iblis and goes haywire like many fictional bio weapon projects, as Rouge in 06 said a prototype generator failed (which was something we didn't see). Both Iblis and Mephiles try to get away but both were stopped when Mephiles was sealed in the Scepter of Darkness and Iblis with (I'm going to make this one up) a magical Crystal Ball of Light. With both of them sealed away, the people of Soleanna takes the crystal ball and scepter back to their laboratory in Kingdom Valley and Aquatic Base and unfortunate news of Elise's father's death from the outbreak of the project is sent to Elise herself. Over a decade later, Dr. Eggman would later come to the land of Soleanna to find a potential new base after his last defeat and somehow notices a hidden lab in the ruins of Kingdom Valley. However, he didn't expect that the place was filled with other scientist and holds them hostage and gets them to reveal what he wants to know like why they're doing all the way out in the ruins and Iblis and Mephiles after hacking into the database recorded by Soleanna's scientists and GUN. Desperate to know, he seeks out Elise as she knows the answer to freeing Iblis's seal along the 7 Chaos Emeralds to make a time machine of some sort. As for Meplihes's seal, it be easy since Mephiles is just a pile of goo and dark mist.
Characteristics: One part of Mephilies I wanna cover is when he summons a future Shadow in a container, as I don't know how he manage to summon that thing without time traveling. So in this case I'm going to add that he has the power of reality, like how Thanos used in Infinity War when talking to Strange and tricking the Guardians to getting Gamora. He would use it to show Shadow what became of him instead of just seeing himself locked up in a container and for Silver to motivate him as a reminder of what to fight for. Another thing to make things interesting, Mephiles would be all knowing considering he would know people's thoughts, feelings, hopes and desires just to mess with them sort of like Slade when he was playing mind games with Robin in the first season of the original Teen Titans. Since Mephiles is literally the mind of Solaris and time itself to a degree with the ability to time travel, he would know what to do when manipulating people into his master plan without them knowing. The reason for wanting destruction in the game is a little to farfetched, but in my take it were to be say destroy the way history of humanity was made because to Mephiles he feels they tried to destroy him when fusing him with Iblis for the first time, being very painful since both of them were not ready to join together, not at their prime with their powers, and were too distant from each other's light and dark. Over time, Mephiles would be able to handle the elements of Iblis, and Iblis would handle the mind time and reality when joining together. For killing Sonic, instead of making Elise cry to break the Iblis's seal, I'd say just to get Sonic out of the picture so he doesn't interfere with his master plan due to how crazy fast and strong Sonic is. One more thing to add to the mix is a new item for Iblis and Mephiles to join together when fusing, that would be the stones of Light and Dark, that way there isn't too much light and darkness and can maintain balance. Now the stones would be very important as both stones are separated in 2 different places. One place where it's dark, abandoned and lifeless while the other is light, surrounded around people of life.
Mephiles is a great antagonist why isn’t in other games #MephilesReturn
He is possibly, the time eater could be made of his remains, and possibly the phantom ruby. But hey, it's just a theory, a game theory!

Mephiles the Dark is really awesome and important character in the Sonic universe and I think he should come back and stay as a weird body form as Shadow after Team Dark fight over Mephiles's clones army too and stay as Shadow's enemie or his own rival too. This isn't how I remember it... I remember Shadow and Mephiles being gay lovers until Sonic ruins everything and Omega shoots Mephiles, breaking up their relationship due to Shadow bringing his friends. Then they go into a Game Developer War and then Mephiles uses the Power of the Piss and Weed Gems to battle Shadow.
Don't forget Mephiles' character development. He went from loving Fortnite to wanting to create a game which surpassed Fortnite.

He is the Doctor Finitevus of Sonic games. Both are fricking creepy and dark, both want to use one of the main characters in their evil plan (Finitevus used Knuckles while Mephiles was trying to use Shadow) and both are responsible for realesing incredibly powerful Gods, Mephiles along with Iblis created Solaris and Finitevus Hexed the Master Emerald so Enerjak's Spirit could Posses Knuckles.

I'm just afraid that any reappearance of Mephiles would require a retcon, and also just be really poorly written. I'm fine with Mephiles being a one-off villain, since he has a complete story here that ends in a somewhat satisfying way without compromising his character. I don't want him to get the Shadow treatment, which is something that I feel will inevitably happen if he shadows Shadow throughout multiple games.
Mephiles is basically what shadow was to sonic in sa2. A polar opposite.

Why Mephiles is Shadow's Best Foe
Simple: He messed with Shadow's mind like no one before
Something I couldn't help but notice while listening to the main themes of the trio is that only two of them have a reference to Mephiles in the lyrics. His World, Sonic's theme has "Intergalactic continental champ running things, hyperactive instrumental and pulling strings" referencing Mephiles' plans to sacrifice the world's future by playing puppet master from the background, while Dreams Of An Absolution has "All the preachers, all with their lies", talking about Mephiles essentially being a psuedo Satan and feeding Silver and Blaze misinformation in order to kill Sonic. Meanwhile, Shadow's theme is mostly about him and how he intends to define his own path after being used by people with ulterior motives repeatedly. It just goes to show that Shadow has seemingly already conquered his inner demons.

As amateurish as I am when it comes to Shadow since Amy is my girl, I think Eclipse from the Archie comics is Shadow's best foe or a close contender. Especially since he actually had a side that cared for other people besides himself.

Hey so look I like shadow and mephiles' dynamic because it furthers shadow's character development but mephiles isn't really that great of a character and I can tell you guys why one his design is a recolor which is unfortunate cause there was probably alot of different things they could've done with it and beyond the whole being shadow's shadow thing there isn't really a good reason for his design two his plan is convoluted he's constantly shooting himself in the foot and besides shadow everybody is being dumbed down to make mephiles look like a cunning puppeteer instead of him actually being a cunning puppeteer mephiles is a good villian concept but his execution isn't and he's kinda overhyped
