Stephen Hawking wrote a book called "On the Shoulders of Giants" that was basically a shoutout to Physics and Astronomy giants, of course Einstein's theory helped make Hawking's career.
"In all that I do, I stand on the shoulders of giants." - Some famous scientist whose name I can't recall. Basically means that science is constantly building upon the discoveries of who came before.
Very nice breakdown of a classic ERB. I think it's time to Julia Childs vs Gordan Ramsey. It's a very good one: lots of bars, good beat, and some deep cuts
The shoulder's of Giants is a quote yused by many physicists but originally attributed to Isaac Newton. The quote in full is: "We see as far as we do now, because we stand on the shoulders of giants" referencing the achievements of physicists and mathematicians before him
I think Einstein definitely won this. He came really really hard. This is an early erb but it is one of the better early ones. I suggest george carlin vs richard pryor or romeo and juliet vs bonnie and clyde next.
Albert Einstein actually did sign off on a letter to the U.S., When the allied forces in WWII were petrified that the Germans were going to make them first. With the U.S.'s theory involving Uranium laid out, Einstein deemed it plausible, to which he signed that off to not exactly authorize the go-ahead, but to basically deem probability and possibility, if I'm making sense. From that, Oppenheimer led the efforts. That's the mushroom cloud reference.
And to think road to 1k was only a month or so ago! Really excited looking forward to the new one this weekend will be looking for your reaction, Ramsey vs Child and Romeo and Juliet vs Bonnie and Clyde are two good ones to go with
"From the shoulder of giants" is a scientific term that means to take work from another genius. It also refers to Hawking's book On the Shoulders of Giants. (it's not from me just copypasted it).
It may be long but, the quote "we walk on shoulders of gigants" isn't from Isaac Newton but someone before him. When Newton publish his gravitation law (years after he discover it, like calculus and others and he was incited to do it), Robert Hooke the president of the Newcomen Society try to get some credit because he almost got the same law that Newton, Newton told him to f*ck off then after some other stuff Newton grow to HATE Hooke. Somewhere in his life he say the quote just to mock Hooke because he was shorter than average and has wide shoulders. Newton hate Hooke so much that when he became the president of the newcomen society he delete almost all the data on Hooke and he got pretty much his revenge we all know Newton while Hooke who was smarter than everybody else but Newton is practically unknow.
Taken directly from the Standing on the shoulders of giants wiki -Its most familiar expression in English is by Isaac Newton in 1675: "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants."
One major problem with Hawking's black hole theory was it ignored the law of conservation of matter, which is why Einstein lead with that. Can't really get why people say Hawking won, his entire rap was, "I'm smart your dumb" and one epic "you're ugly" line. Most of Einstein's lines were insulting Hawking's physical disability, but he had some real hits in there too.
Intentional or not there’s something crazy in Einstein’s first verse. He’s equal to two when squared, making him the square root of two. In ancient history great minds in arithmetic were unable to comprehend the square root of two, to the point they had to get rid of anyone who asked them because they couldn’t risk people realizing they don’t know everything. TLDR:Einstein suggests in this line that Hawking is battling him because he can’t comprehend Einstein and feels the need to get rid of him so people don’t realize he isn’t as smart as they think he is.
"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants." -Sir Issac Newton. Simply means, my work has advanced further because of the work of the great men before me. So Einstein is saying it is my work that ALL your work is based upon, without me, you are nothing.
The metaphor goes far beyond Newton thought he's perhaps the most famous for it. The origin of the metaphor is often attributed to Bernand of Chartes in mid-1100's as John of Salisbury notated it as "Bernard of Chartres used to compare us to dwarfs perched on the shoulders of giants. He pointed out that we see more and farther than our predecessors, not because we have keener vision or greater height, but because we are lifted up and borne aloft on their gigantic stature." thought there's some debate if it is the oldest notation of it or if it's even older.
🤣🤣 I think you won Al, more bars than just disability, talked about holes in Hawkings' theories, talked yourself up, only missing digs on his love life imo. That said, Nice Peter's eyebrow work was top notch!
I think that P brain line also is a reference to the coroner that stole Einsteins brain during autopsy. Apparently Einsteins brain wasnt special at all, it was actually slightly smaller then the average brain.
“I have reached great heights because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.” It’s a nod to the fact that he wouldn’t have gotten as far without the science pioneers that came before.
Thank you to all the supporters you are making these amazing thumbnails possible.

Do Romeo and Juliet vs Bonnie and Clyde, it is my favorite one, I'm sure you'll go hmmmmmmmm!!!
Amazing content bro
Mate, you got the "debunked" theory backward sheesh Hawkins was actually proven right later.
Stephen Hawking wrote a book called "On the Shoulders of Giants" that was basically a shoutout to Physics and Astronomy giants, of course Einstein's theory helped make Hawking's career.
Which itself is a reference to a quote from Newton: "If I have seen further, it's because I stood on the shoulders of giants."
Nice! Didn't know that one!
That Albert E mc2 line is one of my favorites ever. So hard
Same
I wish I could go back and watch it for the first time, I had NO idea how they were going to do Hawking, that autotune had me in tears.
"In all that I do, I stand on the shoulders of giants." - Some famous scientist whose name I can't recall. Basically means that science is constantly building upon the discoveries of who came before.
The quote is actually "If I have seen further, it's by standing on the shoulders of giants", it was said by Isaac Newton
Also Hawking was the author of a book named "On The Shoulders of Giants", so there's a double reference
If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe ~ Carl Sagan.
Very nice breakdown of a classic ERB.
I think it's time to Julia Childs vs Gordan Ramsey. It's a very good one: lots of bars, good beat, and some deep cuts
The 10,000,000 line is legendary. Hawking's triumphant smile is just priceless.
The shoulder's of Giants is a quote yused by many physicists but originally attributed to Isaac Newton. The quote in full is: "We see as far as we do now, because we stand on the shoulders of giants" referencing the achievements of physicists and mathematicians before him
You're the only person I've ever seen who caught the "brane" reference
I think the Renegades may have gotten that one.
I think Einstein definitely won this. He came really really hard. This is an early erb but it is one of the better early ones. I suggest george carlin vs richard pryor or romeo and juliet vs bonnie and clyde next.
Terminator vs robocop!

i think it all started when first said by Newton who actualy Hawking was quoting on that title
Glad your doing older videos, everyone is reacting to the newer ones.
On the shoulder of giants was a book by hawking. the term is about scientists using other's research and expand upon it
On The Shoulders Of Giants is a (partially) Stephen Hawking book.
It may be long but, the quote "we walk on shoulders of gigants" isn't from Isaac Newton but someone before him.

Einstein's theory of relativity has since been replaced by Michio Kaku's string theory
This is Carl's quot:"If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe."

Pretty early here
Good reactions brother.

god that Albert E equals MC squared line is the hardest bar I’ve heard from ERB lol
If I can see so far it is only because i have stood on the scholders of Giants -Stephen Hawkings
ahem ... you mean Isaac Newton Hawking quoted it on a book title
"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants." -Sir Issac Newton. Simply means, my work has advanced further because of the work of the great men before me. So Einstein is saying it is my work that ALL your work is based upon, without me, you are nothing.

And einstein did work on the manhattan project directly
Still waiting for Tesla vs Edison if we are in the field of science :)
