I discovered your videos few days ago and I haven't stopped watching them! You're a great teacher and awesome all round, Conga player, i rate you among the best! I'm a percussionist of over 50 years experience so, i know what I'm talking about. Many thanks.
a wet/stormy Sunday afternoon here in Perth Australia, just checking some old grooves, love this one, first time I've seen it done in slo-mo. nice work.
While watching several of your Congas Videos, you have enlighten me with your vast knowledge of the congas and the foundation of its culture. Which I find has help me understand my conga spirit and define my technique. Thank you and please keep it coming, I'll be watching.
Yo Perez, THIS is the foundation for any player trying to get to the upper level, as in to say, from this position, this foundation, one can build an entire vocabulary of fills, transitions, and rolls. I have always thought that the Doble is the secret to excellent conga playing- good clip, might want to do a sequel
This was very helpful! I'm an absolute beginner and I couldn't believe I was playing that movement in just 3 minutes! That gave me huge motivation to practice more. Thank you so much!!
So many versions exist of this wonderful Mano Secreta. Each has it's place of course... My favourite version still would be Changuito's. His first note actually is a light "finger tip", a ghost note actually. It is not followed by a regular double stroke but a heel-finger stroke. Of course it ends with the slap. The whole thing is a crescendo from first to last stroke. To me it is the most secretive of Secret Hands. It seems to rise up from no where, from a "secret place". More of a subtle embellishment rather than an outright phrase. Gotta love it! I try to create some sort of half-hidden "sub layer" of delicate variations, while keeping the tumbao "in the pocket". Ghosted muffs as an ocassional substitute for the fingertips (of the non-dominant, driving hand) serve this idea beautifully as well... One more thing: Try this Mano Secreta right àfter the bass on the 1, so that the slap sits on the same 2 where it does in a regular tumbao. A great little drop of sauce hidden in the pocket. Hope I don't sound to technical, I mean to describe a musical thing (and that's hard). Eric, much respect. Love your channel and I think you're a great guy! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Mr.eric i really thank you for this beautiful lesson. End of this video you are playing one giovanni groove and adding your lesson in between. What is that beautiful groove .kindly elaborate and give a demo. Thank you once again
Hey man, great video. I was wondering, can you give me the names of any old records that feature conga-playing just like this, so I can go and listen to them?
hermano great job live the way you teach can you please. make a video on double stroke roll. i been trying to get it. i seem to be missing. something. A cry for HELP.
I really liked you video and more importantly for me the way you teach. I can't find your email and ask anyone. Do you use more wrist action or elbow shoulder.
Elvin Berrios I am a soldier also I have been playing for 40 years although I am not the guy you were asking the questions too if you don't mind me answering really what you need to do is pay attention to your base no matter what you do elsewhere as long as you hit that based on time and you can repeat what you are doing at least once you're doing good if you could do it more than once then you are a musician when you get super used to it try to do something else one thing I like to do is to mute my Congo in a way it sounds like scratching cup your left hand like a crescent moon lay it on the top of the Congo pinky down of course fingers vertical and as you tap the Congo slide your hand towards you from the outer edge or from any place really that mean you can also be used without dragging the hand after you get done doing your beat hold it in one place on the condo and tap three times then do the beach you made up again and repeat I hope that helps buddy
Hey my brother how about some for modern Christian music. We're their no congas.were they just a piano ,guetar, drums and bass guitar. I just want to learn some to incorporate into the music.
Note how when he plays any beat he starts slow and then progressively goes faster to show that there are variables all through the same beat even a little pause here and there will change the same beat you will notice that it is pretty much all the same except for Personal Creations making your customized music just feel it and play all day and all night if you can fit it in LOL
Elvin Berrios I like to put a slight bow in my fingers and hit somewhere between the middle and the rim of the Congo it's a really nice feeling gives good timing it extends the note a little bit also if you want something like a rimshot you can hit the edge of the convos with the tips of your fingers I'm not sure you probably figured this one out by now but don't hit the Congos too hard there will be pain involved you sound like you're pretty good already try playing things that you hear on the radio or your favorite songs a slow song is a very good starter
Glendy Vigil that makes it even more weird LOL but on the real I have tried nail polish clear it really works for the guitar playing and the Congo playing and the flute playing if everything is absolutely perfect the nail polish just makes it that much better they gives you an extra sensitive feel kind of like wearing compression clothing as opposed to a dress suit
Sorry but if you gonna teach the tecnics doit right those are dobles it's not mano secreta from Changuito or Tata Guiness or Giovanni don't confused people !!

Hey my brother how about some for modern Christian music. We're their no congas.were they just a piano ,guetar, drums and bass guitar. I just want to learn some to incorporate into the music.
Who was that? Jeffe Morguria? I was trying to find some videos, but the spelling must be off. Great video as always👍
It’s Jafet Murguia... he’s a great player from Puerto Rico!!! Thank you!
Note how when he plays any beat he starts slow and then progressively goes faster to show that there are variables all through the same beat even a little pause here and there will change the same beat you will notice that it is pretty much all the same except for Personal Creations making your customized music just feel it and play all day and all night if you can fit it in LOL
Thank you bro.
Great technique and teaching.. who are you?

La mano secreta is an invention of Changuito.

why does the recording / sound quality improve so drastically when you go to the close-up video?
Dont forget that la mano secreta IS from changuito. Thanks
Is a drag rudiment?
are your fingers stiff? do you hit open tones with 2nd knuckles.
CHANGUITO !!!!!
Do you also use the fifth sound ghost note as demonstrated by Changuito in this video?- ruclips.net/video/sSWbbn9KWXY/видео.html
Would be perfecr in a Majao style
what color is that nailpolish?
Jakethemase Purple
Glendy Vigil nice. The finish looks similar to g.Hidalgo’s manicure. Also, try out Moperc drums and heads, I imagine you’d like them.
Glendy Vigil I don't know if it is a good thing or a bad thing that you know that color LOL
slayer 1 I was joking 😂 and it’s not weird if I did know cuz eric is fam
Glendy Vigil that makes it even more weird LOL but on the real I have tried nail polish clear it really works for the guitar playing and the Congo playing and the flute playing if everything is absolutely perfect the nail polish just makes it that much better they gives you an extra sensitive feel kind of like wearing compression clothing as opposed to a dress suit
Is this one of those 'easy but hard' things?
Me gustaría que lo esplicaras en español
YOU've got a long way to go???
Como se ajusta la conga tengo LPJovani
Patato. No hidalgo.
