  • This week, the federal government was in court appealing a ruling that declared its decision to list all plastics as toxic unreasonable and unconstitutional. A constitutional group is intervening in this case, arguing that using criminal law to regulate plastics is an overreach of federal authority. Canadian Constitution Foundation litigation director Christine Van Geyn joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss.

      @cheesechoker 12 дней назад

      100% correct - it's about disposal, and almost all plastic waste in Canada is disposed of properly in a landfill.
      Plastic waste in oceans comes mainly from developing countries that lack waste management and allow garbage to flow into waterways, and from fisheries.
      Cracking down on plastic usage in Canada makes our lives worse while doing nothing for the ocean.

    It’s only common knowledge in Canada any person understands the impacts of plastic. Obviously we have room to expand our respect for the removal or exchange of some plastics. We all have understanding the importance of recycling the materials that can be. Except, when removal of the wrong plastics, are included, in removal of non essential plastics, these two paths seemingly collide in a spectacular public display of backlash.
    Canadian people are a clean people with respect for nature, animals, environmental concerns, and all that includes recycling as to help. We look at other places, and see complete anger’s as to why we pay for carbon pollution in tax, why we pay for recycling of items, why we pay for garbage removal.
    I would definitely add recycling of items should never be , I pay for you to pick it up and you make the profit. I should be able to sell my own cardboard or plastic to be protective of the environment. Not a pay , pay system.

Anyone who heads into the bush and half-way cares about preserving it should want to end their use. It now looks almost as trash-filled as some third-world countries I've bushwhacked through. Trudeau has dragged us down to third-world country status on so many metrics, we shouldn't be adding to it because we 'can't handle paper straws'.

  • @josephmeier5440
    @josephmeier5440 13 дней назад

    Trudeau and Guilbeault breath is more toxic then the platic bags and straws!
    The only harm is from pollution that it gets blowen around by the winds dedegrated by barbed wire fences and shreaded and loses its strength under uv light and extream heat!
    The micro plastics is a problem and it is blowen in the winds whoch could be the recycling process and other ways of grinding it into dust!
    Better contairnent and processes of recycling or production of plastics is needed! The plastics are not toxic and the problem is in the recycling of wind turbines that have broken off wind power and are to large to truck away! So it has to be cut down in size and the plastic dusts are the micro plastics in our echo systems! 😮 This has to be monitered and not allowed to be carried by the wind to fall on the oceans! 😢
    So manufacturing has to be held responsible to insure proper methods are incorperated to keep this harmful contaiminate from getting into our fish and animals including human beings!

    Getting rid of plastic would actually increase our environmental impact, not lessen it. Everything we make with plastic (a byproduct of petroleum we're using anyway) is something we don't have to take from nature. Many rare and endangered species that used to be harvested en masse for their unique material properties have been saved thanks to plastics. Now, we should absolutely keep improving on plastic materials, plastic disposal, and pollution in general, but plastics are a massive net good for human flourishing and the natural environment. Let's keep working on minimizing the negatives while maximizing the positives, instead of spreading fear.
