The race is amazing, but its the people that live in BC/BCS that make it what it is. Those ranchers that allow them race on their land, and the hospitable people that live along the way, makes it all possible. There are some pretty significant cave paintings that stretch throughout the peninsula. It is a truly rugged place.

You reminded me of some epic camp outs we had in the early 90s when we were chase crew for a 10 car and a challenge car. SNORE and HDRA races like Showboat 250, Twilight 200,, VEGAS to RENO, and of course the MINT 400 were in our backyard and we made the most of it. When my first child was 2 weeks overdue i strapped my wife in our desert runner, aa 1980 FORD FAIRMONT STATION WAGON and bounced down 10 miles of the recently raced Jean section of the mint course. BOOM! Next. Day, healthy baby daughter!

Ford pretty much became the FIRST Car manufacturer to send their trucks to race it.
It was then followed by a bunch of people. Especially the other big shots. Dakar was born after SCORE

I miss sal fish, he would personally shake your hand at the start and tell you to ride or drive safe, and "I'll see you at the finish line!" And he would personally shake your hand again at la paz or Ensenada depending on if it was the loop or not. Ever since sal sold SCORE it's never been the same.
