Well being so the Yankees won 99 games 2 years before Soto came and we have jasson dominguez coming up to play center field every day and the Yankees have proven they can pitch at an elite level not to mention the Yankees have the same odds to win the World Series as the Mets have to win there own division yes Soto is a great player but also not even the best player in his own division
As a Mets fan since 1995 I’m thrilled. Was it all about money no that’s Yankee fans not knowing what’s it’s like to have a great player pick the Mets over the Yankees. For Christ sake Beltran was a great Met but knowing he went back to the Yankees and would have taken 5/100 over 6/119 to not go to the Mets is stuff we’ve had to deal with forever. Soto picked the Mets it’s okay. As far as Soto as a player he’s a ridiculous hitter who’s only going to get better. Is judge better than him overall yes. Is Ohtani better than everyone yes. If Soto went to the the Sox or Dodgers the narrative of money wouldn’t be talked about. Yankees fans you have 27 championships you are the greatest franchise in the history of sports. It’s okay the Mets got a player from you. People shitting on Soto as a player and all this is sour grapes. You will continue to be a WS threat every year still. You just have competition with the Mets. Btw enjoy it the subway series means something again. This is good for NY baseball in general.
I love me some Jeff Passan, but saying the Dodgers have consistently signed top players below market value is silly. You can’t look at this year‘s market and apply it to a deal that was made last year in the case of Ohtani or 5 years ago in the case of Mookie. Both of those players were paid at the top of their respective markets at the time. Now, Freddie is a different story. His deal is pretty crazy, but again, that year there wasn’t a very strong market for him. He was the franchise player for the Braves and they wouldn’t even give him what the Dodgers gave him.
i don't think you can use shohei in an argument about signing below market value. his entire deal was structured that way. he is getting 3 times the minimum MLB contract in salary so the dodgers can spend that other $70 mill elsewhere.
The Arod contract is not even close to Soto when Kay talks about if the marlins offered 850 million. Texas offered Arod 100 million plus more then other teams. That’s substantially more then if the marlins offered Soto 850-900 million for 15 years
Im a Yankee fan who is bitter about the Soto miss as well. But yo simply say it was about the money is wrong. And I’m positive that if the Yankees got Soto, Kay would not be saying that it was all about the money. He didn’t say that when Cole signed.
My thinking is if Soto wanted a ring, he’d be a Dodger. If he wanted to maximize his career stats, he’d be a Yankee (right field porch and having Judge behind him means pitchers won’t pitch around him). If money was his #1 priority, he was going to be a Met. He’s a Met so it was more about money than anything.
Two things can be true. The Mets obviously could offer the highest amount of money, Steve Cohen was not going to be outbid. AND The Mets have the brighter future. Judge will be considered old very soon and Stanton is already on his way out. The Mets have multiple young players that are turning into Stars and Lindor who is showing no signs of decline. Not to mention an owner who is CLEARLY willing to do whatever it takes to win. Yankees fans thought they were owed loyalty because the Yanks got him as a 6 month rental and ultimately it sounds like all it did was make Soto realize he did not want to be there long term. He went to the better team that ALSO happened to have the most money to offer.
Cashman and Hal have destroyed the Yabkee brand so much that they arent even a destination franchise anymore. Since Cole the Yankees haven't signed one marquee free agent except Judge who took less money to stay. They have whiffed on several now.
Kay complaining non stop. Yes it was about the money. Everyone knew it from the beginning but when there’s 3-4 teams offering similar money, it comes down to where the player wants to play. Future of franchises. Yankees have the greatest history in sports. But moving forward I think the Mets are set up much better. I guess time will tell.
Passan sounds like a fool within the first eight minutes of this interview. Every single person on the planet thought that he was gonna go for the most money and ultimately he went for the most money. And to say Alex Rodriguez was not a vastly superior player at his age is just ignorant. 5 tool player vs 1.5 tool player.
Let me stop you. Was ARod at his peak better than Soto? Sure. By no means does that mean it isn't close. We are talking about Rodriguez, who would be an all time great if he wasn't a steroid user, and Soto, who is, in an era filled with all timers like Ohtani and Trout, on par with those greats. The ARod comparison is absolutely justified, and it takes a biased Yankees fan to not recognize that.
@ get a clue. He has an OK arm. An amazing eye. And a great bat. His positional play and defense is atrocious and his base running is nonexistent. He add’s nothing ad a leader. Literally on no planet, if you put the two of them side-by-side at the age of 26 is anyone picking Soto over A-Rod. And even the thing that Soto is best at… A-Rod has him beat. Soto is literally better at one thing. The ability to take a pitch and not swing the bat.
Yanks new if they matched mets will up it. It was a losing battle bc iether mets got him or upped to a point where if yanks matched it would have been way overpriced and mets walk away screwing yanks 😂
Yankees fans not able to cope is hilarious. At the same time, how can you sit back and say the Yankees have a better future than the Mets?
Well being so the Yankees won 99 games 2 years before Soto came and we have jasson dominguez coming up to play center field every day and the Yankees have proven they can pitch at an elite level not to mention the Yankees have the same odds to win the World Series as the Mets have to win there own division yes Soto is a great player but also not even the best player in his own division
Bc they do have a better future
27:30 well that’s not true because Brian Cashman said they did not have a chance to match
michael kay the conductor of the yankees cope train
He’s such a clown n a terrible play byplay Man
6:31 WRONG… Brian Cashman said that they never had the chance to match. Boris never came back to them.
Geez, I feel sorry for Michael Kay because clearly his butt is very hurt by Juan Soto going to the Mets. Someone get that guy to a proctologist.
prayers out for Kay's butthole.

Caught that ecstasy comment 😅 25:40

As a Mets fan, this shows that there is some hope for Yankee fans. Great comment my man!

@ still though, if he wanted a ring, he’d be a dodger.
7:30 Soto is not even in his prime yet… Ohtani when he was 26 hit 254
Michael Kay is right. It is almost always about the money. The players are under pressure by the union to always accept the highest bid
Who you think he is, Drake?!? 🤣🤣
Cashman and Hal have destroyed the Yabkee brand so much that they arent even a destination franchise anymore. Since Cole the Yankees haven't signed one marquee free agent except Judge who took less money to stay. They have whiffed on several now.
Your argument is arguing with itself 😂 "yanks don't attract marquee players", same argument "judge stayed for less money" 😂😂
And yet they made the world series and have multiple super stars...
Who cares what the Mets do! They still have to go through LA!
So do yanks lol
@@Alchemist7181986 was a looong time ago 🤡😂
@Alchemist718 stop drinking the kool-aid.
Like we didn't put up a fight without Soto 😂.
@@yeshua3374 a whimper 🤣

Jeff Passan >>> Steve Young

facts if Arod hadn't gotten into issues with P.E.D he would be talked about as an all time great

On par with Ohtani and Trout… Holy f’n sh*t.
You lost me there, bravo to you.
The dude wasn’t even the best player on his team last year.
He sounds like he's on Sotos PR team and I'm not sure why Passan's doing that.
Yanks new if they matched mets will up it. It was a losing battle bc iether mets got him or upped to a point where if yanks matched it would have been way overpriced and mets walk away screwing yanks 😂
Both the mets and yanks spend money and have promising futures so he chose the most money even if the difference wasn't much
