Why are Yankees fans all of a sudden crying that Soto isn’t loyal and that he’s a mercenary? We already knew this when he left Washington. We knew this when the Padres traded for him. We knew this when the Yankees traded for him. He was a one year rental who has made it clear for years before then that he will go for the highest dollar amount. No one should ever have expected him to be loyal to the Yankees, and this is what they signed up for last year. I feel like all I heard from New York until now was “oh the pinstripes, he’ll be loyal because it’s the pinstripes” when no signs ever pointed to that.

I am a Yankees fan and anyone who didn't get that Soto is 100% about the money was not paying attention. Now, it does make him a greedy pig who (sadly) appears not to value anything else, but he told us who he was throughput his single season in the Bronx.

All of these ultra long and obscenely priced contracts are bad for the game. I'd like to see every front office put their foot down and collectively say.. No, we're not going to pay $50 million or more for guys that are well past their prime. If you want to lock someone up for 10 years at age 26, that's one thing but why would any sane organization agree to pay those overinflated values past that point?..

Some of us are not emotional fans, but actually use our brains. Soto is an all-time offensive player - Ted Williams is a fair comparison, although I would argue that Soto could be considered better, because he is more clutch than old Teddy Ballgame was. But Soto is also sub-par as both a defensive player and as a runner. If this was a $51m/yr contract for five years, that would make more sense. I absolutely pray that Soto opts out after 2029, and that the Mets don't increase to $55m/yr, but let him walk. Because once he starts to decline from all-time great hitter to really good hitter and then worse, and his defense and baserunning declines, then he won't be worth anything close to $55m/yr. As to Uncle Stevie's wallet, no team in baseball - Mets and Dodgers included - have an unlimited budget. Think the Mets will sign Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, Walker Buhler, and Sean Manaea as starters, and Tanner Scott for the bullpen? Sounds nice, but it is absolutely _not_ happening. Even Uncle Stevie won't go nearly that far. Which means money must be spent wisely.

Dodgers were buying a COUNTRY in signing Ohtani and Yamamoto. From purely a business perspective, let alone a baseball one, it made sense to sign them. For Soto, neither a business nor baseball decision makes sense to pay him that much. Ohtani brought in $100M in 2024, Soto was not even in the top 5 of Jersey sales.
Cohen paid that much because he was not going to get outbid. Period.

He threw the vibe off in the Yankees' clubhouse from day one with his diva behavior and the constant passive-aggressive BS he directed toward Aaron Judge. The Yankees front office is very happy with this outcome. Hal had no intention of actually signing Soto - he just drove the price sky high because he knew Cohen would top it no matter what, and the more funds we can drain from Mets ownership the better.

tell your rich owners to stop keeping all the money they get from revenue sharing and luxury tax they share from teams like the mets - your owners have the money they do not want to spend it

TJ being a Mets/Cowboys fan is funny to me man, what’s his basketball team?

I'd go with the money. Baseball, like a lot of sports, is hard on the body. A 15-year contract with an opt-out clause after 5 years sets him up for life. After all, it's just a game. 😂😂

What I love about this is how if their team won the WS, everyone in front of a microphone here would take more pleasure in the other guys' teams NOT winning than their team doing so.

The Yankees aren’t entitled to every big FA every year. Rich hit it on the head. Before signing with the Mets, he was a generational, can’t miss and will make any team a contender. Now that he is a Met, he has all these issues and is even on the downswing
