- 1968 Dodge Dart drag race! No cage in my Dodge Dart with a 360 mopar was too much power and I ran too fast! This dodge 360 motor makes 530 horse power! With a 4500 stall converter I get some great 60 foot times big Mopar burnouts and Mopar drag racing here!
Badass.. Mopar A Bodies Forever!!
Hell ya brother!
I loved my '67 Sport Special, grandma gave it to me the day I got my license, and she bought it new off the showroom floor. Only had the Slant six 225ci, but running light to light on the cruise, it rarely lost. It could pull away from a 240Z on the straights up on the top end, but they could out corner me.
Wow" where are you racing at the back of Wal-Mart The track actually dead ends at a pile of concrete blocks a dirt pile dukes of hazard jump or tree's.. no wonder tech guys want you to have a cage. HaHaHa HA
Yes. Old track. Only one around
Couldn't agree more.....I can't believe someone hasn't shut that track down....very sketchy at best!!
Nothing wrong with building a proper cage and using all the safety gear. Tracks are already lenient considering the speed.
Dam they need to change the track to just 60ft racing!!! But that's the only option you got...street racing would be safer then 🤣😂
Gary Gary That’s BC... all of Ecotopia ends in the trees.
Man, that shutdown area is definately not enough!!
I like the steel ramp on the right.
I imagine putting both passenger side wheels on it and the best wreck wins - bonus points for death.
Tough loss, your opponent chopped the tree down for sure. Mathematically you had a shot if the 60' had complied...
So the real question now, do you put a bar in the car or slow it down?
Love the car but definitely not a fan of that track. The slow down area just looks horribly designed.
The track was built in the 50s. Only track so only option.
I was thinking the same thing about the shutdown! Looks sketchy short.
Just hope your brakes don't fail lol..
Definitely looks like something could go bad real quick there. Car seems to be running real good.
Yeah, car is cool track not so much
Great looking Dart, we found with better traction, flashing the covertor gave better 1/4 times and speeds.
Not worried about the reaction time.
Plus 90/10s on the front and 50/50s on the rear transfered the weight and started lifting the front wheels.
The front shocks can be easily changed at the track.
Bigger rear ARB helped to.
Like you we removed the front ARB.
Our s/b 68 Dart is now running low 10s in the 1/4 with a 100 hp gas and high 10s without.
And we have a full cage now to.
Good luck.
Watching with interest.
Great video Joe & Natalie! Looks like the front is coming up quicker than before. Those were some nice passes, I thought that you got that guy also. Keep up the great work!
Spoke to ya later, Ka moan.😎
Right on bro. Thanks again!
Look forward to the cage videos 💪
I can understand these rules on 1/4 mile tracks, but short tracks like that should be way more flexible on the requirements for cages etc... because it is such a short track and do not hit the MPH you would in 1/4 or 1/8 mile. Just my opinion. Beautiful car by the way. I have a SBC Gen II LT1, it runs 11.28@120 in the 1/4 mile at 1750 DA (best pass to date) ON MOTOR. Race weight is 3600 lbs. The stall is really tight in it. My 60' is only 1.6. I should be in the 1.4x range. I am sending my 3600 stall back in to get reflashed and loosened up a little. Mine is a balancing act because I run nitrous as well and nitrous likes a tighter stall. Hopefully I can find a happy medium with my stall for motor and nitrous.
Ya they are really chill at the track but still gotta follow the rules. Like they let me keep running it all day like that so not bad. Your car sound sweet! Good luck with it
Why would you need a cage going 385 feet. That makes zero sense. You aren't racing a 1/4 mile. 0.098 isn't bad but still have some room for improvement
They got better thru the day. Cage is still required based on my tracks time of 5:22 et.
Awesome job! Looks like it all the tweaking has come together. It looks VERY good coming off the line. It's hookin' up hard & tight. I think the fan alone would bring you down enough to get back to where you need to be. Good luck!
I think so too. Thanks for watching
I think the young man is it cool dude I love his car
Looks like you really have it going on! Learning a lot just watching. I'm working on a Dart myself, can't seem to find a right angle oil filter adapter for my 360, where did you get yours?
I did have but I removed it. Not need with tti headers
Awesome Joe & Nat《☆》Man I wanted to see you stuff that white Nova🔊☮I guess that was a practice run or you were able to buy back in or he redlit🎬Nice progress with your Dart. I bet lots of people think it's a bigblock with the HEMI scoop on it :*: Greetings from⛾Florida🤳my friends🤓🗣🔊☮✌👍🏾
👍🏻
BDOG JR He’s absolutely killing it.. love the vlogs.. MONSTER NA POWER FROM THAT 340 MOPAR 👊
Congratulations! Those new mods with the new converter are working great!! It's launching hard preloaded to 4500 rpm!
Hell ya it is. Thanks for watching
I think you can get into the 10s in the 1/4 mile. Keep working it. I really enjoy seeing a systematic and updated project like this.
I think so too. Goals for next year. Thanks for watching I will continue to improve the car. Stay tuned!
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop Another racer on RUclips put race discs on his S10 and said it made a big difference, also some lighter weight front wheels. I was wondering if you could do that? I know you ride it on the street but it seems like it's becoming more and more a race car which is cool. I'd keep it able to go on the street but it's such a beautiful car personally I'd just race it. I also think using an electric water pump would free up some more HP. There's a lot of inexpensive, well relatively inexpensive ways to get better ETs. An 850cfm dp Holley I think would also help now that you have the torque converter in there. I know everything cost money........for safety reasons a roll cage is the way to go because that car is going to go faster.
I think your car is vary nice . Just a great mussel car nice color too.
Wow with a cage it will be better but slow it too.
But a shot on NOS 50 off the line and 300 down the track that will make times quicker. You could be in the hi 9 sec or low 10s.
Nice car !
👍🏻 thanks for watching
I hear you brother. The local drag strips around here are closing down left and right. But the track owner should do something about the shut down area. Move them old cars and those concrete blocks weigh 2 tons a piece I know because I have made hundreds of them. Dump a couple loads of cheap creek sand down because sand doesn't compact and atleast give a guy having a bad day a fighting chance. From the outside looking in. I wouldn't want to see anybody tear their cars all to Hell or get hurt even Chevy driver's. HaHaHa HA I'm kidding chevy...Be safe
Haha no doubt man. I doubt it will improve anytime too soon. It’s primal ya circle track we just use front strip that why it’s so short. Ya we don’t chevys getting hurt ether. Haha
You cant estimate a quarter mile et by an eighth mile et! It never works. Too many variables. Cars properly set up for eighth run out of gear for the quarter mile. Just saying. Awesome car just the same. Put a stroked big block in it.
Its not a 8th mile track
@@fasteddy So you didn’t watch the video!
Nice !! Congrats on your new best slips !! Always an awesome feeling. 🍻
FUNKY track!!!???!!! Find another...
No other
What is 385 Feet? Not used to these kind of drags. What is the 660 ft equivelent?
660 feet is an 1/8th mile.
@@GrantOakes Understood! But who, besides you run on a 385'? 660 is pretty standard and then the 1/4. what is you 1/8 equivalent?
Cool, looks good. Glad to hear your caging it, instead of slowing down...lol. I bet you can't wait to get it on a nice full size track and make some full passes. I'll be taking mine to the track in a few weeks, down here in FL we race all year round.
Ya bro can’t wait to make some real hits. Next year. We will race till October then not till March. Have a good time at your track!
Great job on the channel Joe! They must be cracking down on the roll cage rules this season, I was running 5.1x and 5.0x most of last year and no one said anything haha.
Haha ya I may have a bit of a target on me! Car keeps going quicker every time I’m out say they may want to cap it quick!
Great job and congrats on the times. Car runs straight
Man I love 68 Darts! One bad machine, awesome keep up the smokin tires!!!!
👍🏻 hell ya brother
I know you've probably addressed this but.... Is that just audio quality or a high rpm miss?
Rev limiter
@@SimpsonsSpeedShopso technically a miss them 😂. I thought maybe it was on the chip but I heard it in 1st as well. That threw me off. That's one sharp Dart. Sweet ride bro
Way to go Joey, all the time and work does pay off.
Hell ya brother! Thanks for watching
Still rootin for ya and i still say 11.10 is gonna happen to a 10.90 with the gear.
I agree!
Excellent work. Looks like your having a lot of fun. Seems to be running nice and straight without having to fight it down the track. Your hard work is paying off. So happy for u man.
Thanks a lot! Yep happy but always wanting more! Thanks for watching
Last i checked you were at 420HP, now 520 ?! Good job....!!
Yaaaa buddy. Check out my dyno vid!
Awesome Dart- keep repping the Mopar so strong.
trueblue Mopar guys have a much better attitude then the bowtie guys I was raised not far from Tonawanda New York where the big block Chevy was created and yep you're right I had three mopars in the 60s
Mopar 4 life 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop that's right brother I'm going on 73 years old and I drive a Chrysler 300 wish I would have kept my Plymouth roadrunner my Dodge charger my Plymouth Savoy all big block your car is absolutely beautiful and your girlfriend is hot
This has been one of my most comfortable St cars here at the track!
"Notice", at a 4500 hundred torgue launch how strong the 158 s are and front-end response is. No movement much at all to the steering wheel. Great racing today!
Shift-point today was 66. Although car was faster, shift point gotta come down Abit...
Agreeable! Great time here, challenging and great people here....
Tire pressure needs to go up 12-16, leave at 1800..... Let it Flash!! Hit the tire Harder, if it spins... fix the rear with more tire pressure, shock or caltrac adjustment. If your hell bent to leave that high put a two step on the brake pedal. Foot brake car is faster taking a run at the converter. Nice Mopar
woops that was a Nova good runs and a nice car keep it up
Canadian Pontiac, I think it's an Acadian or a Canso! They also had Nova's!
In Canada Pontiac even had a version of the Chevelle the Beaumont! Yes they had Chevelle's too just extra versions for Pontiac as well!
@@01trsmar yes now I dont remember, yes nova was named different in Canada
Congrats! At least they didn't kick you out had that happen a few times. Good luck stay safe. ✌
Thanks!
I love watching your dart racing down the track. I would love for my 75 dart sport to have the same setup you have. Maybe one day.
Thanks for watching
I saw a pic long time ago where Ray Cook used a piece of Masonite, I think it was attached to bottom of an open element air cleaner and contacted the hood when closed, which sealed off the aircleaner from engine bay heat. Just throwing my 2 cents out there. Luv that Dart
Ya I like the clean look of no air box tho. Thanks for watching
Thats a dangerous track.. No net, No gravel, short stopping area... Nothing but heavy equptment to run into!.. That promoter SUCKS!
Great to see your improving your time each time you go to the track👍 such a strong engine, looking forward to your next video Joey!!
Thanks bud! And thanks for watching
I know it's your car and decision, but may I make a large suggestion? Considering this is the only track around you and it is crazy short AND you have a very, very nice car that would cost a fortune to replace A N D you are going faster AAAND will want even more speed in the future,,, (takes a breath), how about finding some cheat rattle trap that you don't care too much about the body and build it for serious racing??? Caging your car will defiantly make it safer and tighter, but you will kill this gorgeous body and it's not bad street ride. In the end you will have a full on race car that you won't want to drive on the street and when it comes time that you wad it up into the concrete blocks or into someone else's car that missed the turn, you will be forever sick!! Just find a body you like that you won't mind Swiss Cheesing to death. Gut it. Cage it. Tub it. Build a late model hemi with forced induction and don't forget the massive brakes!!!! No more switching tires back and forth at the track. No more worries about scratches or super nice interior. Lexan windows. No interior other than a few gauges. No heater box and all the crap that goes with it. If you think dropping the few pounds you have were good, wait till you do what I am saying!!! Pull a couple hundred pound out of your car and watch it fly!!
Yeah, I know. I've been trying to talk my son in law into doing the same thing, but he loves his Mustang Saleen. He won't after he tags the wall at our local track....
Nice runs cool car. You should only really need a ROLL BAR which is good to 10.00 in 1/4 mile Cage is good to 8.59 in the 1/4 mile
~I really like your videos man...I thought I was subscribed already?! Am now!!
~If I am not working on cars,I am watching them on youtube lol,my addiction to Mopar!
~Ever go to Mission Raceway?
Right on man. Haven’t been to mission yet. Next year
I've always been a small block guy and I gotta say that's the best sounding street small block I've ever herd. That's saying something because I've had a couple that were pretty rowdy.
Thanks a lot! Check out my dyno vid to see it pull. Thanks for watching
John Hayes absolutely love the dyno run on intro...set it as my ringtone
Nice. I just got insurance on my Duster and I'm getting it registered tomorrow so I should be racing next week, watch for videos.
Sweet!
Elevans came to easy for my 68 dart fourr door 451 stroker going to have to cage it.no one wants to break there door latches or go slower glad to see you have in fun
👍🏻
Oh well , now you gotta build a cage , better safe anyway especially with your wild track ! Great show , I've been pleading with the 1320 guys to show more darts and finally today got to see 2 run quarter ! 😁
Sweet thanks for watching
Thanks for Videotographer
👍🏻
Good you tried flashing the converter that's why it's called testing.
Yep. Testing is key
Man that shut down area is way too short for me.
All the junk laying around to hit if you don't get stopped in time.
Not worth the risk IMO.
How does the steering feal with out swaybar any wander I found no difference when the engine pulling hard in straight line
At track no prob watch vid where I drive on street like that.
Don't spin in the water box throws water up in the fender Wells and the water drips back down on the tires when you stage the car
Great day of racing, congrats!
Thanks bro!
Whoops you got Power Steering Yet lol ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, look at Oil pressure it closely it looks like it was dropping as you were accelerating.
oh yeah that smoke filled sky reached Maryland just the other day and has not left.Oh yep same thing when i ran my car it dropped .3 when i took off flex fan, the water pump , later due belts kept rolling off, I never flashed converter but everyone told me that is what you are supposed to do. best 60ft was 1.59 area only 12,2 with stock type engine back then. IF they let you run all out 60ft? or maybe to the second timer then slow down
Yeah that in car cam shows him turn so easy I guess I'm going to have to get me some power steering , it's so nice though with only an alternator belt
Late on this channel and more or less, not following it in order but great that you're getting it sorted out. Good racing. 👍✌
Well done Joey keep up the good work I wouldn’t put the fan on just adjust your limiter down .
Ya also a good idea. Fan will control temp a bit better than me playing with it after every run tho.
Watch your best 60 ft and then watch your burnout, time and rpm needs to be consistent. Good numbers for sure. Go Mopar!
👍🏻 thanks for watching
Been great coming along for the ride. Car looks as sharp as it is fast.
Thanks. I will keep pushing it!
Love that valiant on dog dishes in the distance
Yellow one? That’s my bud Dave. 318 fuel injection
Being too fast is a good problem to have! Great job. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Best problem I’ve had yet! Thanks for watching
The least restrictive filter is a bellmouth with screen over it, or even better, seal the carb to the hood and jet till it slows.
find a new track to go-to, their start line is in the wrong spot, and while your Cars Quick, it ain't that fast it needs a cage.
No other track around. If I ran anywhere faster than 11:5 I would need cage. So i do need a cage
Its quick enough to need a 6 point bar by nhra rules. 7.35 is the break for old cars(pre 08 maybe) to need a bar. A lot of non nhra tracks adopted the rules for liability coverage.
Good day at the track. Great job !!!!! 60s are getting better and the car is quicker. Can't ask for more than that. Testing and tuning only way to get better. One suggestion though, you may want to invest in a set of light weight front wheels and tires. Those Cragers weigh a ton. If you look at your front end when you leave it comes up really quick until it tries to lift the tire then it bounces which unloads the rear suspension. I think with a lighter tire and rim the front will continue to rise keeping the rear chassis loaded and improve your sixty by a lot maybe a tenth or more. Overall though great job and great video. Please keep them coming, I look forward to them.
Thanks for watching. Ya I know cragars weigh a lot but they look soooo good. They will prob get swapped out eventually.
Hey great Car getting better keep the good work up... Thanks
I thought it was like a 9 second or under needed to be caged but I could see the problem there
Beautiful car -- the stance and attitude are spot on. Love it.
Thanks bro!
i would lower that rear end down out of the sky
Then can’t change tire at the track.
Why? For looks? The chassis is working well now, do you KNOW it will work as good lowered? He's racing the car not parking it at a car show to look good. Besides, it looks fine to me.
I think it looks good too. But literally I have springs to lower 1 1/2 but when installed I can’t fit tires in between wheel well and read diff becaus when lowered the diff dosnt drop low enough to fit tire in and out. But ya I thin it looks good as is. And shits workin!
By the way, whose headers are you using?
Tti
Nice Dart!...That dragstrip looks alittle sketchy tho lol
So cool to see you document the changes and how your times improve. Some SERIOUS iron at your local track! Natalie is doing a great job with the videos... I assume she is editing them, too. Always enjoy watching, keep 'em coming!
Thanks man! I’m glad people are seeing th whole progression. Nat just shoots I edit. She would edit herself out of them! She will be front and Center next vid tho! Thanks for watching
It hooked well today!
Looks like a cage coming😎
HOLY CANNOLI THATS A SHORT SHUTDOWN!!!!!
Maybe I fell off my rocker but your 1/4 mile conversion doesn’t make any sense to me. My dad has a car that will do 6.50 in the 1/8 mile and 10.60 in the 1/4 mile. Same car same setup??
Track isn’t an 1/8. It says like 7 times in the video
How many babies that dart create?it purty
Love yr car you got it running nicely my pop owns & operates an auto machine shop here in phx. years ago he traded a nasty sb chev with a nash 5 spd which his buddy put in a 55 chev for a 69-340-4spd barricuda he threw a 340 together out of spare parts he had around which resulted in the same deal only1/4 mile it dipped to far in the 11s so we adjustted the throttle back to a 12 flat but were fixing to drag it out & start having fun with it again......love old mopars
Right on! Sounds fun. Thanks for watching
You could help Uncle Tony of Uncle Tony's Garage. He's not good at it. He picks the wrong car, the wrong motor, the wrong transmission, and has no luck when it comes to making a motor run. He drags the parts car to the track before it's ready. He's a great guy, he could use some help. Thank you
Please help him.
Haha thanks for the compliment
Very wicked ! Great job !
Thanks bro!
If you still have the stock floor in it , you don't need a "cage" in it till 9.99 quarter. You only need a five point bar. I would put in an eight point with a swingout. And, if you are just uncorking it without a collector extension, you're giving up some power.
Ya could just do some bars for sure. I like the sound
They probably want you to have a cage just because of that shutdown area. What a disaster waiting to happen. Love the Dart tho. Got a 70 Swinger myself.
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
2nd run looked like bad reaction time?
You’ve got a great channel brother!! Wish you were down in the states!! You’d be an outstanding addition to our growing family down here and we’ve got good tracks everywhere to choose from and a few crappy ones too if you want it to feel more like home............ and I don’t mean that in any kind of bad way either, it’s just that you don’t have the best designed track there to run on so just be careful man.
Ya k not the best that’s for sure. But beggars can’t be choosers. It’s the only track around. And it will be gone in few years now. Property sold and will be turned into condos. Then I will have to get a trailer and travel far to race.
Sweet! Cheers bud.
👍🏻
Already my favorite Dart build, congrats on the car!
Thanks bro! More to come soon soon! She ant done yet
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop Awesome, can't wait for it! :D
Tech guy asks, whadda ya been runnin all day? ... Oh, we've been running 5.2s ... No ya haven't, I seen ya runnin 5.1s, I only asked to see if you'd lie to me.
Ha he was right! I’ll have is slowed down for next race. Bracket car style
Ok good but you still need the moroso trick front springs front end way to still 90/10 shocks good but stock springs Gotta to go way to stiff just no lift josh....
Even tho it seems inside the car to you that it is video it it's not josh.
Check your pinon angle to make sure its were john caltrac wants it contact them again and mention you have stock springs in front they will tell you replace them...
what is he supposed to do with the moroso trick springs ? maybe put them in the trunk for extra ballast ? LOL
Just found ya....
Like your vids...
Look like a good neighbor 😎😂👍
Right on! Thanks for watching! My neighbours love me lol
Who gave a thumbs down to this.🤔 must be import owners. Great Dart and video.👍👍👍👍
Hahah I though the same thing! Thanks for watching
384foot? that's a tad over 1/16 of a mile... why bother, on such a skecthy track.
Only track around so it that or nothing.
Man A 5.15 = 8.03 I dont know where your get 11s? nice car . sounds awsome.
@@MrGsxr10001 as I say in vid, the track is 385 feet.
Looks like a lot of fun. After watching the in car camera I noticed that your front suspension may need some attention. Looks like something is loose when you launch and a wobble when you are slowing down at the end of the track. I could be wrong, I had a problem like that and my idler arm and Pittman were worn. Just my 2 cents.
it seems to drive fine. The track isn’t exactly flat thanks for watching
I really think you should work on that burnout. what is best suited for those slicks.( long burnout or short ) for better traction off line and at 60ft. to much burnout will blister the tires causing slip at the line and 60ft. but really great job man!
I have learnt that I need a bigger burnout to hook these tires. Ran a radial slick before, they didn’t need as much heat. Thanks for watching
Great combo.
Thanks bro!
To me , it looks like the track isn't an 1/8th mile. Is the 384' the elevation or the track length? Other than that, love the car and the work you've done.
384 is track length thanks for watching
Love the car. Had a 69 340 swinger with a Peter Willie trans, back in the day.
Nice he rebuilt this trans for me. Thanks for watching
I am not a Dodge fan, but i have to say " That is one BAD ASS looking, sounding, and running machine!"
Thanks bro! And thanks for watching. Lots more o bc the channel!
Still diggin it!
Congrats
👍🏻
Is that a true GTS the first car I ever owned was a '68 GTS with a 383 4 speed that was back in the late 70s wish I would have never sold that car
No it was cloned before I got it. Thanks for watching
Whats with the short track? Thats gay!
Good job.
Thanks!
