I remember in the world cup, the games he was playing, whenever there was a lineout he would bow to the ballboy/girl and you could see him mouthing arigato to them. Always a worry the spirit of the game will be lost in professionalism but players like schalk give me hope

Do the baa baas belong in rugby???? The baa baas are exactly what rugby stands for.... I can imagine a baabaas cap is in a way more special than an international cap! The ethos and core of what it means to be a rugby player is barbarians rugby. Long may they continue to give back to the game. What a perfect send off for Rory and schalk 🇿🇦

Loving this video for soooo many reasons,though it is a shame that it did not show Rory Best give Ken owens a hug when Ken got his second try of ther match. For me that symbolised the rugby spirit to perfection. Complete respect from Rory for his opposite number. This welsh man will never forget the great player and gentleman that Rory is. Also thank you Gats for everything you have given us and a great day for nigel getting to ref in a wales game. Magic was made on this day :-)
It's so hard to dislike Schalk Brits! Same for Best. Love both of them. Even the Welsh public love both.
By the way, Gatland should have a 30ft statue, not just a gate named after him.
What a wonderful team, its so humbling even though its a physical game, the world would be a better place if it was like this team

That's the greatest idea ever. An invitational side in a world cup. Doesn't get more barbarian than that. No fans, no home, bunch of solids dudes and rugby players trying to win rugby glory. Would be an epic team. Maybe some older legends trying for one last go around mixed with guys who didn't make the national side but probably had the skills to be in the squads. Great idea

Barbarians rugby feels every much like that tike Sylvester Stallone got all the legends of the game, the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger , Van Damme, Statham, Danny Trejo, Lundgren, Jet Li, Bruce Willis and Chuck Norris in #TheExpendables back for one last go and boy oh boy wasn't it beautiful 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊. Building up to a Barbarians game leaves you giddy with excitement, very much like when you were a 10 year old tuning in to see your favourite super heroes unite
Barbarians still has a place in modern rugby because it takes away the financially competitive edge of the game and brings it back to the natural beauty of it. All the razzle dazzle, flair, passion, heart and dedication to the cause, by assembling a bunch of great players who end up creating even more magic. Great doccy. Love the Barbarians. I once had the honour of a late-night, cross-continental phone call with the late BaaBaas President Micky Steele-Bodger, motivating why I thought my unknown team-mate deserved to pull on the jersey. And in November 2002 he did! I still get goosebumps to think of having had the tiniest of connections to this great institution.
Perhaps a suggestion which might have been debated before, which could add to the prestige of the Barbarians without detracting from its core values: award full Test caps to all players who represent the Barbarians against an international team. For eatablished internationals, it would be like collecting Lions Test caps in addition to those earned representing one’s country. And for uncapped players it would add to the honour of being called up as they would be able to say they played Test rugby, too. It would create more fairytale stories and ensure the Barbarians never lose their relevance. I don’t see how much would change in the way the players would approach the game should Test caps be awarded; if anything, it would make them appreciate the occasion twice as much and encourage a legion of players around the world to catch the eyes of the Barbarians selectors. And players would always still be chosen for their abilities to entertain, and not merely win at all costs. Just my two cents from a lifelong fan who grew up watching VHS replays of THAT 1973 try.
Schalk is by far the nicest guy in the world. Like the Steve Irwin of Rugby.
