Seiko is " the brand" but Orient ( and Ricoh too ) is by far my favourite Japanese brand because of their unique designs full of 70s flavour. Congrats for your collection of solars and please, more videos.
Great job, it would be nice to be able to see a video on the old Otron solar from the 70s, as far as I know the original module was used by many builders. If you have news it would be nice to have a video dedicated to these models. Thanks.
Congratulations on those cool watches! Are You staying with original bracelet or trying something wild like nato/strap/crocodile skin? Latelly I was given eurochron from 80's and I'm thinking about strap as current one is chipping with strands. It will be "pimping my old GDR comrate" :D All best
I love Orient too, have the music alarm, the digi ana, the memory text. With the same you have in brown, I could rescue the display and 2 buttons it lacked, but it is fixed in time 12:00. Changed crystal and nothing. Any idea? Thanks.
I have a 70s watch that uses an OTRON module with a solar panel, but a standard sr391 was indicated as a battery. Does this mean that the panel does not recharge but only directly feeds the clock during the day? The watch works also without battery inside if exposes to the sun light. In this case what type of battery could be used?
Regular batteries inside solar watches is a controversial subject. From my experience nothing really happens and is just like adding another battery in parallel to the one in the qatch, I actually found battery lasts longer. But there is NO logic to control which power source feds the module. Don't know an exact capacitor replacement for the pne you mentioned.
@@VintageDigitalWatches ok, I Will make a try to measure if the panel feed electricity to the battery using a voltmeter, if no electricity i think that mean a battery used as backup for night operation otherwise I must try to find a capacitor to replace the standard battery. Thanks for reply me.
@@VintageDigitalWatches ok I checked my sixxin solar watches ( It Is based on otron module of '70) and the display works without battery. The voltage on the battery connection ( without It ) measure from 1.3 to 2.0 volt depending the solar exposure, this mean that the battery Is not isolated. Current battery Is a regular SR1130 not recharchable, according with older style solar w. Now could be interesting to adapt a recharchable battery, also mybe creating a small adapter using the 3D printer. These last tests.
Happy to see you again!!! Orient was and Is an underrated brand.
Super quality back in the 70's
Hi Simone, I agree, and I wonder if these were generally available outside of Japan.
