    Those stretchy bracelets, you have to pull the U shaped pins out, the ones that you can see on the outside that hold the strap together. 2 on each side to connect each link, they just clip in.

      To add, it's better to lever them out with a small screwdriver rather than yanking them out with some needle nose pliers.

    Thanks for the tip on the Seiko A557, I have one of those and was going to dismantle and disconnect the solar connections but will get one of these Panasonic cells instead.☺

    resizing stretch straps is a bit finicky, but pretty straight foward. you have to bend open the sides of one upper and lower link, and then you can easily pull out the little, staple looking parts that keep them together. re-assembly is the same thing backwards.

    • @Inkreptile
      @Inkreptile 4 года назад

      You don't need to bend them just stick a screwdriver under the staple like clip and lever it out

    • @Ucceah
      @Ucceah 4 года назад

      it really depends on the exact make of the band. on some you even have to take off a decorative outer part first. you 'can' force those retainers to bend, by prying that staple-thingy out, but manually bending them up first is the safer and the proper option.

    About braselet. I think it has 4 c springs in every part.They are pushed up inside by square spring. You can try to remove two on one side and there should be square one pushing it to upper side. Please show more to look at because it it hard to judge after few seconds

    most of these "capacitors" as the manufacturers call them are, in fact, merely rechargeable batteries. You can source out the same r/c battery from Digikey or Mouser for a fraction of the oem cost. I slide a single-edge razor blade (something thin & wide) under the spot-welded tab of the original "capacitor" to break the weld (it's VERY easy) and I use this on the new r/c cell. You're correct about heat damaging the battery, especially tiny watch cells, but, instead, use what you use in other repairs - silver epoxy. It will dry and be conductive and you're in business! For example, here is the cell (capacitor) that is required by the Seiko V172 V174 V175 V176 SSC015 SSC017. Purchase the TS920E here www.mouser.com/Search/Refine?Ntk=P_MarCom&Ntt=167605663 at Mouser for $2.80. Of course shipping is more than the cell but, if you buy 3 or 4, as I do, you're set for awhile. Hope this helps

    • @VintageDigitalWatches
      @VintageDigitalWatches  4 года назад

      DigiKey will work fine if you are in a few countries, like US or UK, and paying loads on shipping and waiting and customs is not worth it. Good idea with silver epoxy, but would be extra work when changing it in the future.

    • @VintageDigitalWatches
      @VintageDigitalWatches  4 года назад

      I'll pin the post to benefit people with the mouser link. Thanks

    • @767fresh
      @767fresh 4 года назад

      @@VintageDigitalWatches Actually, the same method for breaking the original spot weld bond will work to break the "small" bead of silver epoxy in the future - you need not use much, just a spot. If you use too much, anyway, you run the risk of covering the insulation between the two terminals (negative side up). The cell is held in place by the screw-down tab; the epoxy ensures the continued contact.

    Love your videos, that solar Casio is a piece of art! I bought two vintage Casio and both of them are missing the top battery retainer, but when I push down the battery they seem to work fine. I put a bit of isolation tape on them to hold the battery and they seem to work fine, but one of them has a light that after a few hours just stops working I wonder is it because of the missing retainer? Is there a better solution than taping it down?

    I have a Gold Star GQ-601s. It is a solar digital watch. Circa 1980s. The original battery is a "no 20" made by Renata Swiss. Do you know what the current equivalent battery is for a "no 20"?

    Do you think a 1.5V cell would be sufficient for an analog solar watch? The old cell is 2.4V, 0.47F, 0.31 mAh. I am worried that a 3V cell would damage it, and also the mAh on all modern cells I've seen are much higher than 0.31

    Hello, I'm a subscriber to your channel and find it interesting, entertaining and helpful. I have 2 Ana-Digi temps which need servicing beyond my comfort level. Would you be willing to service these watches? One is the 8982 more modern, rounded style bought in 1989 and has a TON of sentimental value because it accompanied me throughout high school, and the other is a cal. 8982 "Orange Lightning" which needs an LCD replacement due to a bleed in the lower right portion of the LCD screen. I can provide a donor watch. Thank you.
