You might not like it. I'm not trying to change your mind or excuse this character. I want to show you how I see the story of Walburga Black.
We all know that the role of the mother in the Harry Potter universe is very important and soulful. We remember Lily, Narcissa, Molly, and others, but we forget about Walburga. Despite her mistakes, she was a mother and she lost all her children.
She wasn't born evil and cruel, she was an extension of her family. And she wanted from her sons what her parents wanted from her.
When Sirius left, she cried quietly. When Orion passed away, she got sick. When Regulus died, she was lost.
Her mind was damaged by grief and loneliness. Cygnus and Druella tried to help her, but…she couldn't let the ghosts of her family out of her head.
Walburga Black died alone next to The Black Family Tapestry.

I absolutely adore Wallburga Black. She’s my inspiration even if she was not “good” in everything. She had just harder life than anyone else, she had too much responsibility and everything. I believe she loved her sons but couldn’t show it completely because of her family and traditions. She deserved better, her sons deserved better and even her husband. It was not completely her fault.

This is what I'm getting from this:
The black family has high expectations from their children (be in slytherin etc.). Despite her eldest son (Sirius) being sorted into Gryffindor she still loved him because he was her own. Walburga Black was raised to believe that the Slytherin house is their tradition . Sirius being sorted into Gryffindor broke that tradition, Regulus was sorted into slytherin (so Walburga only showed her pride for her youngest son) like a good Black. I don't think that the way Walburga treated Sirius was all hate she did it with love as well. She adored both son's but had to remove Sirius from the Black Family Tree. When she did she felt ashamed with herself, when her husband became sick she could only stare at him, and when she lost her youngest son (Regulus) she was forever lost because the Black Family was going to die.

Yes,and she grew up hearing that she must continue Black family legacy and all that ,and with Sirius being disowned and Regulus dead,the Black sisters married to other family's there was no other bearing the Black family name and thus thought she failed her family and everything she was doing her whole life

Very interesting take on the character that is usually just a mere mention but hides enormous potential considering what her sons have became. @@everythingisblack I love how’s it’s also poignant that her Slytherin values like cunning, resourcefulness, leadership, and ambition, did not help her but lead her down the path of self destruction, figuratively the snake devouring itself. It’s ironic that pureblood was so important to Walburga yet she treated it so callous with her actions as if she had infinite resources of it, when in fact she only had 2 sons. If pureblood was so important to her how could she not see that her first step in preserving it was to preserve her sons...

She lived alone for six years, lost her husband, son and then one of her was imprisoned for the crime he didn't committed. And I am damn sure she knew that Sirius would never betray the Potters. Six years in isolation after losing everything which you once have....it is really devastating and sad.

Remind me if you read about pureblood children being abused in actual HP books rather than fanfictions.

I really wish more of the Harry Potter fandom got to see this kind of masterpieces about side characters you and many other talented individuals, a lot of them in this comment section, create. HP is such a vast universe with endless potential and I love seeing characters come to life through your work. I can imagine how much work, thought and time this must have taken. It is such a beautiful and haunting video and fits very well into the little canon information we have about Walburga because, after all, as Sirius says, people are rarely black (ha) and white. As a massive Sirius fan, it's hard for me to forgive the emotional abuse Sirius must have suffered at the hands of his biological family, but it is always refreshing to see a new perspective on this vast magical universe and the darkness within all corners. Sorry for rambling, this work is just really inspiring and makes you think. Thank you as always

Secondly, yes, I agree with the fact that the characters of the HP universe are opened from different sides even now. This is very important and interesting. I hope that other authors will definitely make us happy too. And third, oh, Sirius finally came home. Against his will, of course, but still...if Walburga knew that after all these years he would be standing next to this Tapestry...It's heartbreaking!

I am so angry and sad that the BLACK family bloodline stopped because they were my favorite sacred family. Walburga ,Orion, Druella ,Cygnus tried their best to keep their family proud and alive .
That's possibility that Phineas Black II ( P.N.B son) had children of his own, also Eduardus Limette but they were disowened so they ancestors weren't shown in the B.F.T. I decided to not care of what happened in canon to Black Family, in my vision they still exist🖤💚🐍😁.

I've never seen or even thought of an edit for Walburga and yet this blew the lid off the top for me. I've never seen her as anything but a pureblood racist but this really opened my eyes. I love your minips too. I love that therapist/lady talking and especially the snake wasting it's own tail part. She lost everything and destroyed herself from the inside out.

For all that Sirius was convinced she hated him and claimed to hate her in return, Kreacher mentions multiple times that Sirius, "Broke Mistress' heart", and Kreacher was with her for years when she was alone so it was likely she spoke often of Sirius. Also, she died shockingly young for a witch and the cause was never revealed. Was it suicide or her broken heart that ended her finally? It was ironic if the mother he accused of not having a heart ended up dead of a broken heart, mourning the loss of her sons.
This is brilliant! I have never watched a video about Walburga before and I'm really happy that you made this. She is such an interesting, tragic character. The whole Black family and their story is really interesting. I really hope that one day there will be a movie or a series about them. I am absolutely delighted that you have chosen Eva Green as Walburga. She is my favourite actress and would be the perfect choice to play her. I've been literally watching this over and over for weeks! You literally inspired me to write a one chapter fanfic about Sirius and his family. I love it, your editing is awesome, the casting is perfect and scenes blend so smoothly together that it looks so professional! Very well put together, congratulations. Walburga is a very small character but you made her a much layered character than she is in the book and Eva Green is the perfect choice for her. Especially in 1:00 when she was talking to Sirius the anger in her voice and the disgust in her face was very much Walburga. You should definitely consider making a video about just her and Sirius! Even if not that, I'd love to see more of Sirius from you. Thank you so much for this my friend, keep up the good work!

i think there was a time when walburga did love sirius but he got to a certain age were he started to misbehave and disagree with them alot more so she was forced to dislike him and then he got sorted into gryffindor and everything just went down hill

I think that Walburga at the last years of her life felt guilty of evrithing she have done. Everyone can change and I think she did it.
Wow. I like to think i'm very open minded but i never once thought of Walburga as anything more than an evil mother. This has changed my mind.. the depth and insight of this character study is very moving. It is essentially a tragic story, a downfall that she created for herself. Are the quotes your own words ? i would read a book just about the black family, to show that they were more than just their reputation.

Everyone depicts her as an abusive mother. I don't think she was like that, I believe she was forced into a marriage she didn't want. She let sirus leave, deep down I believe she was happy that he made it out.
I‘m just speechless at this point. You made this master piece of a video ... of a character we don‘t know much about, a character that gets overlooked for being bad. You gave her so much depth and I really appreciate it. You could feel how broken she was. Walburga was not an evil witch of a mother. And I think she loved Sirius until the day she died. He was haunting her, Orion and Reg too. But she was too proud to admit, that she was hurt and that‘s what made her weak in the end. Walburga was not a good person, but she loved them after all... I shed a few tears watching this masterpiece
In my mind there is no possible way Walburga herself was abused. It's usually a cycle that is constantly repeated over and over in families until someone breaks it. She was likely forced into the marriage. All that pressure of having sons historically was known to drive women to the breaking point. At some point I think she simply broke and couldn't be fixed. She likely far too broken by the time she even had Sirius.
I always thought of Walburga and Orion as being really abusive, but they believed that they were doing what was right and what would help the boys in the long run. Sirius never forgave them, but Regulus had never hated them or resented them, he was just scared of them. He was scared of being hurt more. After Regulus and Orion died, she was truly on her own. I have a whole storyline about Regulus meeting this girl at Hogwarts and they got married when they were 17.

But I don't think Regulus was scared of his mother.
I think that after Sirius left, the responsibility fall on his shoulders. His feeling of responsibility to his family had grown, so he didn't want to let his parents down.
What makes me happy is that people have so many different theories and stories. This gives us a chance to think!
Maroonspider50 I actually don’t think that Orion and Walburga were abusive - there’s not even one mention of them being anything but pureblood bigots, not abusive assholes. What I think - and what canon seems to support - is that although they loved their son, the relationship they had was very, very difficult. Sirius speaks of “his parents preferring his younger brother”, calling him a “better son” than he was : a sense of jealousy? Parents comparing children, putting them (unknowingly, or perhaps not) against one another? And let’s not forget that when he was stuck once against in Grimmauld Place, Sirius was said to never leave his mother’s old rooms, and spoke a lot, almost obsessively, of his family - that’s not the actions of someone who hated his parents and brother, either. Furthermore, him putting up girls’ pictures and Gryffindor’s banners in his room was another act of defiance .. Poor boy wouldn’t do that if he was afraid of his parents’ reactions, more like he was baiting them into it. Perhaps the actions of a child who felt neglected !
Ugh, so sorry that this had turned into a rant, but I have a lot to say about the Blacks. They’re very interesting complex characters, and from how little we saw of them, that’s telling. But all in all, I think the relationship was very strained, not without love, yes, but with a lots of anger and unsaid things. Just what you’d expect from uptight purebloods aristo in the 1970s, really.
everythingisblack Also, I loved the video a great deal ! Not my fan-cast choice for Orion Black, but you managed to bring out something incredibly beautiful, and I loved the little characterizations. You managed to convey each emotions in a beautiful, sad, but authentic way, and I’m not ashamed to say that I rewatched it a couple times, at least.

When reading the books, I thought she was a hateful prejudiced woman, but I think this video helped put things into perspective for me. She was a sad lonely woman who's been fed lies by her "god" (aka Voldemort, and even long before him, probably by her own parents) and they tore her family apart.
This video was that powerful for me to realize that from being a hateful figure, she was...a figure of pity. She went to her grave believing all those lies she had been fed, even if probably in her heart she was conflicted, as a mother.

I adore walburga black. Her life had been hell,unlike sirius who ran away,she had not the courage to. She may have loved her sons but showed it on her own way,after all how would she know how to show love and kindness if she doesnt know what it is? She was taught that emotions are weak. She was taught to be a ‚proper pureblood witch’ that would get sold before she even left hogwarts. Ofc she doesnt show it. Her husband is even her second cousin! Bet ya it was arranged. I am so so sorry for her. She is not like her son. Even tho in the movies and books shes showed as a vile and cruel woman,but we dont know her backstory. She may be a Slytherin,but to me she is the gryffindorest slytherin i ever saw. (Except regulus.) she deserves so much better :(

These lines in between were the most beautiful thing I've ever read. Especially with how they bring out the essence of the characters, like Sirius being a mischievous child and Regulus being a sweetheart. And they are so well articulated, it's as if these lines were taken from an original script about the Black family.
I love the video, you made Walburga appear in a very different angle than the books wvich I aporexiate bc every "vilain" has reasons or backstorys that explain why they act the way they act. I love Eva Green, so perhaps you can tell me from which movie/serie the scenes you used are.
