- Stuff I used mostly Amazon:
Eyoyo 12 Inch Portable HDMI Monitor TFT LCD
Midream Tilt Mounted Fold Monitor Holder Vesa
Unitek 4 port USB hub
TM Cougar MFDs
PVC strip / superglue / heavy duty velcro
UFC from Buddy Fox
Connections:
MFDs + UFC into USB hub
USB hub from monitor to PC hub (power)
HDMI cable from monitor to PC
DCS setup:
Create MonitorSetup folder under Config folder (if not already there)
Create a new MFCD.lua file and fiddle with pixel positions for your monitors.
Then select this new file under DCS settings and fiddle until centred.
This guy has done a great job explaining the .lua file in DCS go there for details:
forums.eagle.r...
Notes:
The monitor (and MFDs) has a sloping edge which is a nuisance, if you can find a simple square edge monitor/bezel this will be easier for mounting. I mounted on the bezel using PVC to ensure level fitting (not the screen).
The Vesa mount I recommend, it is very solid and very stiff with rubber feet, I can push all buttons without movement on my desk.
Buddy Fox UFC is a solid piece of kit, all buttons easy to set up in DCS, highly recommend!
Sound:
I have the Logitech G560 with subwoofer under table against wall and the engine sounds during startup taxi and in flight for airbus warthog etc are incredible!
FYI the newish 12.3 inch widescreen monitors (1920x860) are almost a perfect fit for 2x MFD with just 3/4 inch gap in the middle. The screens look very bright and clear and can be found on sale for ~$100 at times (I wouldnt pay the $150 asking price they go on sale so frequently) Fits just like the one shown but doesnt have any overflow above.
Nice, simple and cool but very functional! Well done and thanks for the inspiration!
All - 1 element I should have mentioned for the overall immersion here is of course the sound. I have the Logitech G560 with subwoofer under table against wall and the engine sounds during startup taxi and in flight for airbus warthog etc are incredible. With the latest sim updates having all switches, clicks and door noises in cockpit it is very impressive, as well as the fly-by camera view sound (DCS & MSFS).
Thank you for this! I have ordered the parts and am going to attempt to make the same thing, minus the Buddy Fox.
Nice! I think having the Buddy Fox was the best purchase I made since I use it for all the aircraft I have hah
I agree along with Warthog HOTAS & TPR rudder pedals you have all that is needed (after many many hours of mapping).
THANK YOU FINALLY!!!!
In the UFC, Master Caution flashes when you have a problem? You can't see it in the video
Hello
My issue is with either my THRUSTMASTER BMF or my CUBESIM displays... and i have tried it all. I am hopeful that someone can help. I have written to both companies... one says, "nothing they can do to help" (THANKS for that) and the other I am waiting a reply... so... ask you guys.
The issue is that my MDF's do not respond / actuate the corresponding function shown of the screens when pressed. It's like they are not married to one another. They are both connected and work independently BUT not together... what's up with that ??? I would appreciate any help or a direction to any video/tutorial which could solve this (although seemingly insignificant problem) to my dilemma.
Thank you all for your time and attention to my post.
Wow cool setup!! May I ask, what is the panel with all the buttons above the two MFDs ? Thx
Hi that is the Up Front Controller in the later Warthog cockpit (in DCS too). Check all my steps comments above to find the guy who makes these. It works very well as long as solidly mounted.
@@pstraghan thx for the info, just had a look, 153 Euro minus postage Wow !
@@JohnSmith-oz3kh Yes I thought it was a lot, but compared to other Warthog hardware it is not too bad and I asked him to remove 20% VAT for UK which he did (I said UK customers would be put off by the high total cost), that might make it less painful! But Warthog HOTAS kit + TPR pedals + MFDs + UFC, ridiculous amount. I recently got the Fulcrum yoke + Bravo for GA stuff (both very good)!
That's fantastic! Wonder if I could that for my DCS Hornet? 🤔
Yes can use both the MFDs & UFC for other aircraft in DCS (both can be mapped to specific plane functions), some have 3 MFDS in cockpit.
@@pstraghan Thanks for replying Strak. I'll be showing my Cougar MFDs on my Ch here soon too, no display screens yet as I'm still researching & looking. Stage 1 for me atm 😉
Hi a question, the above panel has two MDF who sells it? I would also buy the whole set as its
Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs - on Amazon, Scan, Thrustmaster, many other sites?
@@pstraghan I know this, I did some research and found the Official Website of all the equipment at low prices. My question before was over the two MDFs where I can manually type in Target and Test etc coordinates etc.
Nice set up . Does hit the graphics card hard with another 2 displays ?
More displays will require higher performance yes but I had new high spec pc (32GB, 3070Ti) so not an issue even with 49in super wide Samsung. Note for DCS Warthog I only enable 2 monitors; for airliners GA (MSFS 2020) I use 3 to see IFR maps ATC etc.
Thanks for the reply. I’ve got a 3080 will that be ok for a extra 3 msd screens in dcs
@@MatthewSmith-fg9pi If you mean 3 MFDs I think that will be fine yes, if you mean 3 extra small screens also then your overall spec should be good too (CPU,GPU,RAM) as this is now multitasking (along with sim hardware) I reckon. Note also in my experience with PSUs with all this extra power needed for extra hardware I prefer at least 700W (I have this as I couldn't get 1KW). But PSU easy enough to upgrade if needed (500W is common).
Note I doubled RAM to 32GB but found not really necessary for just the flight sim running - but as I use the 3rd monitor (Alienware 24in) for several websites - simbrief, maps, metar, and the ATC vatsim client with different browsers all open at same time - I have no issues!
Yes I meant to say 3 mfds lol . Thanks for your help
Nice. How do you work out the lua screen setting?
Hi follow the steps and links above, basically you need to fiddle until it fits.
what program did you use to setup and edit a lua monitor file for DCS?
It is a text file, you can use any text editor, so you can right click on the file to choose which program opens it, just make sure to keep the file extension so that it is recognised (.lua).
@@pstraghan thanks. I just saw where you used notepad :) and how you used labels like old to keep things from being lost! thanks again!
Thanks for the tutorial. I need a little help export the monitor. I have 3 deferent screen size. How can I contact you?
Hi, I have 3 different sizes too - what is your issue / how can I help? I could send my monitor setup & .lua file as examples to you (email)?
@@pstraghanFacebook?
Not on facebook, was away did you get sorted...
i found a cheap 11.6 screen........the mdfs will fit ?
Yes not much difference to 12 in screen so can adjust fit, also if you have cheaper option go for it, does not need high res output.
Do you know if this works wirh War Thunder?
Not familiar with that one, depends on how much config that game allows you to change. In general you should be able to get this extra monitor working for other games, but I got this to work in DCS which allows a lot of config fiddling for the Warthog (so should work in all DCS aircraft).
Would you happen to have a copy of your code file?
Hi if you have 2 monitors you should follow the example in link above (3. Configure a monitor setup file). I have 3 monitors with a suw 49in screen (set right and below which took a long time to sort) - it will be much easier to start with 2 if this your setup (you will have to fiddle with the pixels script after setting your monitors and resolution first). So definitely work through the link steps in order!
@@pstraghan thank you. I'm hooked up to a TV (65in) and I've got the 12in monitor on my desk for the MFD's I guess I'll be tinkering around a fair bit to set it up... Thank you for the quick reply. I'll update you if I can figure it out and make it work!
