Great review! My wife and I are considering this band as we're on a budget. We've read several reviews that still left us with a couple concerns. Your review answered our questions about the HR tracking, and it's ability to be submerged in general activities. Thanks again, and you helped us out on our decision.
I have come across your video to gather information about buying this and it makes me want to get it right away. You earned a like and another subscriber
Hey..Your review just awesome.. I also have using mi band about a month now..Its worth for money though i cant see anything in outdoors. .. Definitely Thumbs up..!!! :)
thanks for a great and thorough review. I was still on the fence about this one but this review made me decide to get it after all. it seems to be a solid tracker.
Great review! About to buy one myself. Do you recommend a screen protector? I heard there was a stock app for it and a paid one? Do you know the difference about the two? Also is it really that hard to read the time out in the sun? If you gave it some coverage using your hands could you see then? Thanks!!
i have it for about 2 months and its great, now im waiting for my metal strap to be delivered so i can eliminate the ONLY problem i have with it - sweating due to the original band material
I can't find it anywhere, can I take only Mi Band for running, without taking my phone with me? Will it save the training data and then send it to the phone when they will be connected or it's not working without connection with a phone?
Watching your video made me comfortable to get myself a new Mi Band 2, thank you for the complete reviews! I just subscribed to your channel! *Can you recommend any good fitness apps other than Mi Fit? Thanks!
you said it doesn't track heart rate all except with a 3rd party app but doesn't it use the same app as the 1s, which you said does track heartrate during sleep and resting HR? why would the new one not us the HR sensor to track sleep if the old one does?
Good question! So the mi band 1s did track your heart rate during sleep, however you never got to see those numbers/data. It just used that information to help with the sleep tracking accuracy. You could, however, use the app to take a manual reading of your resting heart rate, however it wasn't automatic and it did not keep a log. On the Mi Band 2, the built in sensor will take manual readings using the app or the band. It will log those readings. I don't know for sure if it still uses the HR sensor for sleep tracking or not.
+Techy Agent so it does use the same app though Right? also I hear there are better 3rd party apps that can use the HR sensor and do more with it ,have you tried any of those? also can you please do video on how to make this thing work with Google fit ,all the instructions I found are wrong and I can't figure it out. ,they all just show pictures of a non existent "menu" screen that I do not see anywhere in my App they must have not updated the directions for the newest app because I can't find the menu in the pics anywhere or any way to link it to Google fit I think they have removed the ability to link to Google fit because i can't find any way to link it, the app version i have seems really limited
Techy Agent oh yeah app version is 2.1.8 And there is no way to link it to google fit All the directions I found say to go to "menu" But there is no "menu" anywhere in this whole app There is just "settings" under the "profile" tab at the bottom. There are only 3 tabs at the bottom ,"status" ,"play", and "profile" There is no "menu" under any of them ,in the play tab I see a heading in fine print that says "add accounts" then it has 3. Chinese apps I never heard of under it But there is no option to add anything else
Hey, thanks for the awesome 'real review'. I am using a Samsung Galaxy S7 and my brother is using an iPhone 6. I was just wondering if this band is compatible these two mobile set. And, can I use with the Samsung Health app and with the default app from iPhone. Or we just need to the Mi Fit app? Expecting your response.
they are consistently improving the app, there is jogging tracking option in the app, you can manually set on to jogging mode when you are about to jog.
Thank you for your prompt reply sir! I thought you can add the calendar app in the mi app for it to show the date and day. I hope Xiaomi can update that feature as well. Thanks :)
Thank you sir. I hope it can show those options too like the Garmin Vivosmart. Mi Band 2 costs $45 here in the Philippines from online resellers. Still looking for a physical store or a cheaper way to purchase it. Thank you 👌
I use upwards of 12-16 bands each year, and for the most part I have my "daily wearable" and whatever unit I am testing at the moment. The Mi Band 2 is a good cheap option, but it's not what I wear. I have a very expensive wearable that I use as my daily option.
Eric, got it, thanks. It's my second day with Mi Band 2. It's pretty simple. I'm not sure if it counts steps correctly. But yesterday I walked 5 miles and Mi Fit app gave me approximately same distance as Nike NRC+ app. What I like about Mi Band 2 is it's pretty slim and elegant. I also got Garmin Vivofit 1, but it looks 1.5 bigger than Mi Band 2.
Keep that in mind, that it's actually very easy to enable showing distance, calories burned and battery percentage on the band using the official application. Anyway, it's a great device, I can only recommend it, and if you buy a cheap 3rd party app for it, it can do SO MUCH MORE, it's totally worth it. (note: this is NOT supposed to be an advertisement, just a friendly recommendation to anyone planning to buy the band, I'm not saying a particular app name, and I'm in no way affiliated with that apps owner.)
Thanks for the video. I'm just wondering, do I need to have this device connected to my phone all the time for it to keep data? Or does it store data within the mi band 2, to which I can read and save that data on my phone after a work out? When you said that it wasn't tracking your weight lifting work out, was that the heart rate not working? And does the heart rate not work all the time then? Thanks
Nice Review. I'm wondering about the activity tracking. On what version of the app are you? I've got version 2.1.4 installed on Android and it doesn't automatically recognize runs. Just states it as walking in my app. Can you elaborate how you set this up?
well, I didn't really set up anything. I installed the app on my iphone (ios operating system). I'm assuming that it installed to the latest version of the Mi app. I don't know for sure, but perhaps the android version is different?
+Techy Agent kinda seems like it. I'll test it with an iPhone as soon as possible. Maybe the Android app is a few versions behind. Thanks for the update though!
hello.. when we bring this band when running.. did we need to bring our phone too? to calculate the calories burn? because its connect it via bluetooth to our phone right?
the hardware is definitely good enough. only the software sucks. it's running on a closed ecosystem, which make the use very limited. can't even use Sleep as Android because of the ecosystem. I wish xiaomi could be more open and allow third party developers to make full use of the hardware.
Hi.. i just got my mi band 2.. everything work quite well unless for sleep tracking.. it wont track my sleep pattern and i dont why it happen.. work on everything including reinstall the apps and create new acc.. but nothing seem to work.. any advice?
My gear is always a work in progress. Right now I use the Panasonic G7 with various lenses. But for that video I can’t remember which camera or lens I was using. I use the Rode Videomic for audio, And I also use various USB microphones for the voiceovers that I do
Hey! Thanks for ur review, Does this band have active heart rate monitoring? As in can I keep it tracking my heart rate in real time, and allow it to display it on the wrist band? Instead of the App
+alverage70 it does not do it automatically, you have to take manual readings and it will show and record your heart rate whenever you press the heart rate read option
i used "Notify and Fitness For Mi Band" and i like its features. It included the continuous heart rate monitoring. "Mi Heart Rate - be fit" is a pure continuous HR app but you need to purchase it to be able to use it indefinitely.
when you take this band for running, do you also take your phone? Could we only take the band when we do outdoor activities and then sync it when we reach home?
thank you for you review here i just wounder y all smart bands doesn't show time in seconds so i can track rest time between sets while i am training at gym
+Chris Embleton ah, I see. Well, either one will work, both are great products. If you can swing the extra money, the Mi Band 2 is a big improvement. But you would be happy with either one really
Great video!, to track sleep, is it automatic or do I have to go to the behavior tagging and activate sleep?, can I turn the device off? Im not going to be using it everyday, thanks
Hi, I was wondering if it will sustain in water for more than an hour with rigorous swimming strokes and will it calculate the calories burnt in swimming as well?
Well, this one has the advantage of being more water resistant and having a heart rate sensor. But the Alta is better at tracking steps, sleep, and calories. And the Alta has a better app. So they both have strengths and weaknesses.
You put your heart and soul into this review. You did everything I expected out of a good review. You earned my thumbs up. Keep it up!
+Jeremy Kurowski thanks Jeremy!

thanks for a great and thorough review. I was still on the fence about this one but this review made me decide to get it after all. it seems to be a solid tracker.
+Danielle Prewett It is definitely a solid tracker. It's not the very best on the market, but at its current price point it's a steal.
Great review! About to buy one myself. Do you recommend a screen protector? I heard there was a stock app for it and a paid one? Do you know the difference about the two? Thanks, now I can buy it.
don't know

Great review. Does it have the smart alarm function?
+Mustafa Burak Bascumali not that I'm aware of. It does have a vibrating alarm for a set time

also I hear there are better 3rd party apps that can use the HR sensor and do more with it ,have you tried any of those?
also can you please do video on how to make this thing work with Google fit ,all the instructions I found are wrong and I can't figure it out. ,they all just show pictures of a non existent "menu" screen that I do not see anywhere in my App they must have not updated the directions for the newest app because I can't find the menu in the pics anywhere or any way to link it to Google fit I think they have removed the ability to link to Google fit because i can't find any way to link it,
the app version i have seems really limited
Techy Agent oh yeah app version is 2.1.8
And there is no way to link it to google fit
All the directions I found say to go to "menu"
But there is no "menu" anywhere in this whole app
There is just "settings" under the "profile" tab at the bottom.

tnx techy agent you gyuz are awesome.
+Shimanta roy 👍
Great video, is there a active/sport mode for running with timer and distance?
+Ryan Taylor unfortunately not, this does not offer a lot of features because it's a low-end health wearable
Thanks, I am trying to decide between the ID107 and the mi band 2. i believe that the ID107 does have a active mode?
Wht do u recommend for gym work out?
Very nice review....
hey, will this band completely response with the iPhone 6, such as call alerts, message alerts...
+glidin bernabas It will let you know that you have an incoming call or message, but you won’t be able to see what the actual message is
Good man , Great review ,Cheers...
Hi! Great review! I have a question though, does it work on iPhone? Thank you
Hey Eric ... thanks for the video. Very informative. One thing I would like to know. Though Is this band compatible with health app on iphone 7?
+Suraj Jena yes it is, thanks for watching!
I really like ur review great job:-)
Thanks for this video! I should have mine today. I have the MiBand 1, without heart sensor, and its at 30 days usage with 50% battery, amazing.
+Rudi Wells awesome! You'll really appreciate the new band and all its upgrades!
There are so many reviews out there. But this was the best as far as mi band2 review is concerned, this is the best. 7 🌟
Thank you!
Very good review, it made me buy the band and subscribe :)
hello Erik, that's a very good review. can you plz tell me if this band can track elliptical trainer or cycling activity randomly?
Rampay Pramod Yes

+Ransher D it's pretty accurate compared to my Garmin

+Ransher D In my opinion, yes

+Chris Robison Awesome, good to know

It is compatible with ios and the Health app automatically connect to the Mi app. Works fine for me :D
Hi all.... There is a mode in current app to take heart rate readings while working out. I am not sure if that update came after this review.
+Nikhil Tanwar yes, I did. Glad to see that update!
Techy Agent can you do an video on the mi band app? Or any third party apps?
It only counts step or also tracks gym activities and calories? Like cross fit etc?

Hello, thanks for the review,
Should I keep my smartphone's Bluetooth on all the time or only when I need to read the data ?
azad did you find any answer ? Cuz i am looking for it
hey bro which camera you used to make this video????
while strength training or at gym does it count calories burnt?
they are consistently improving the app, there is jogging tracking option in the app, you can manually set on to jogging mode when you are about to jog.
hi Eric! great review! would like to know if you can use the vibration for this as sleeping alarm clock? Can it display the date and day? thank you :)
+Lou Loop it does not display the date and day, but it does have a alarm that can be set with the vibration feature
Thank you for your prompt reply sir! I thought you can add the calendar app in the mi app for it to show the date and day. I hope Xiaomi can update that feature as well. Thanks :)
+Lou Loop you may be right on that one, i'll have to doublecheck and see
Thank you sir. I hope it can show those options too like the Garmin Vivosmart. Mi Band 2 costs $45 here in the Philippines from online resellers. Still looking for a physical store or a cheaper way to purchase it. Thank you 👌
Hey Eric thanks a lot but I have some concerns does it calculate heart rate accurately? And is it worth it to buy this smart band?
finally, a review done by a native

It's not their fault that your brain is too under-developed that it's not capable of understanding foreign accents.
Hi Eric, are you still using this Mi Band 2? If yes then please share your experience since it's been over a year now.
I use upwards of 12-16 bands each year, and for the most part I have my "daily wearable" and whatever unit I am testing at the moment. The Mi Band 2 is a good cheap option, but it's not what I wear. I have a very expensive wearable that I use as my daily option.

Hi! Can it track your blood pressure? Thanks
Is this worth buying like does it have any big issues
do you need the app to do everything or can u do things without the app?
+Patryk Daily if you're referring to exercise, you don't need the application nearby to track exercise
Thanks for the comment! Yes, for less than $50, it's a great fitness tracking option.
which apps did you use for it?
Thanks for the video. I'm just wondering, do I need to have this device connected to my phone all the time for it to keep data? do you have to have your phone with you in order to track milage when jogging or heart rate?
Nice Review. I'm wondering about the activity tracking. On what version of the app are you? I've got version 2.1.4 installed on Android and it doesn't automatically recognize runs. Just states it as walking in my app. Can you elaborate how you set this up?

What 3rd party app of this does take your sleeping heart rate?
Mi band tools
In the Brightside video he mentions figuring out his circadian rhythms with the mi-2 band does it do that through an app can you recommend which app?
What 3rd party apps will track heart rate during jogging, running, and walking?
I haven't personally used any, so I can't make any recommendations. Sorry!
Can you use this while cycling???will it count???? How to know if its fake or real
hello.. when we bring this band when running.. did we need to bring our phone too? to calculate the calories burn? because its connect it via bluetooth to our phone right?
Muhammad Firdaus arshad no it works alone
Nice review, looks pretty good for a low cost tracker, would be cool if they utilized the heart rate monitor more though...
Yeah, it's not bad. It's not on par with Garmin or Fitbit products, but it's not trying to be.
the hardware is definitely good enough. only the software sucks. it's running on a closed ecosystem, which make the use very limited. can't even use Sleep as Android because of the ecosystem. I wish xiaomi could be more open and allow third party developers to make full use of the hardware.
is it good to track pulse on gym?
+kosiorski no, unfortunately not
Techy Agent so bad :/ thanks for answer
Why not? You can enable pulse reading non stop mode by third app, pare with endomondo and voila you can workout on gym.
Why not? You can enable pulse reading non stop mode by third app, pare with endomondo and voila you can workout on gym.
you can by doing treadmill setting works good..
Have you tried the vibration setting for this band as an alarm? Is it strong enough to wake up a heavy sleeper?
does the manual heart rate tracking is accurate and sudden?
will this be helpful in tracking my cycling routine?
+Siva Rk not really, it's only designed to track step-based exercise like walking, hiking, jogging, etc
using HR is one good way to track your cycling routine. Mi Band paired with a smartphone app can do a continuous HR monitoring.
thanks... just bought 1 yesterday..
Hi there TechyAgent is water resistant or proof? Can it last in the pool without limits?
+Jovean Layno Yes, it is waterproof. I've taken mine to the pool for two hours.
Hi.. i just got my mi band 2.. everything work quite well unless for sleep tracking.. it wont track my sleep pattern and i dont why it happen.. work on everything including reinstall the apps and create new acc.. but nothing seem to work.. any advice?
What camera/microphone do you use to film?
My gear is always a work in progress. Right now I use the Panasonic G7 with various lenses. But for that video I can’t remember which camera or lens I was using. I use the Rode Videomic for audio, And I also use various USB microphones for the voiceovers that I do
Does it have something like timer or stopwatch?
+Eugene Vlogs no, unfortunately not
is screen resistant to scratches???
no not really u can attach a screen protector to it
sandy candy yes
Anagh Josh Banerjee does it works without phone ?
Techy Agent thank you so much! I got it
the updated Mi Fit app can monitor your HR continuously. other 3rd party app can do the same.
+Ouel can you recommend a third party app for real time heart rate tracking and calories burned? thanks.
i used "Notify and Fitness For Mi Band" and i like its features.
+Andri Fitriyadi yes, you do not need to take your phone with you, it will automatically sync when you get home within Bluetooth range
Which Apps, can trigger the HR ?
March 2017: Amazon was selling this for $70. The Fitbit Charge HR is $90. The slim price difference shocked the crap out of me!
papaGhurka i bought mine for 35 bucks 👀 ( Amazon Germany)
papaGhurka 23€ on DX.com
Thank for your video. Do you have a video on how to use this watch app. on MI device? thank in advance.
So during the sleep study, heart rate is not monitored?
Would you pls introduce me smart watch for gym ? Many thanks.
fitbit
Can we use it on ios too?
thank you for you review here
i just wounder y all smart bands doesn't show time in seconds so i can track rest time between sets while i am training at gym
V nice review, overall how accurate was this device?
Erik Leypoldt as accurate as it is
Yes, you CAN separate the walking and the jogging. Check your Mifit app.
Thanks for the review, can you share the 3rd party application we can use for heart rate monitoring..
I haven't tried any personally, sorry.
Which app should one use for continuous heart rate tracking for the mi band
when u swim does it count it as steps or does it show the calories burnt ?
+Abhinav Manoj it will likely track any swimming movement as steps
And any movement like cycling ?
Will it count the total calories burnt during a work out
thanks bro.!! any idea when it's releasing in India?
+VIRENDRA SINGH KSHATRIYA I don't, sorry
Can I use in swimming, bathing and washing clothes etc
Are it must supposely have connection with the phone?
I want to wear it to the school too but I can't bring the phone together
Do you think it will track movement on my bicycle?!
would you recommend this over the 1s for a first time fitness band? I don't really need any of the alerts etc.
+Chris Embleton yes, I would recommend this over the 1s. For just a few dollars more, it's a substantial upgrade
+Techy Agent it's about twice the price here in the rip off UK. £37 vs £19.
+Jose Alberto F it automatically tracks sleep. To be honest, I'm not sure if you can turn it off or if you have to let the battery die
Hi, I was wondering if it will sustain in water for more than an hour with rigorous swimming strokes and will it calculate the calories burnt in swimming as well?
+Revathy Sureshkumar it will work in water for more than an hour, but it does not track calories well for swimming
I'm wondering between this one and Fitbit Alta. Which one would you say better regardless of pricing?
Well, this one has the advantage of being more water resistant and having a heart rate sensor. But the Alta is better at tracking steps, sleep, and calories. And the Alta has a better app. So they both have strengths and weaknesses.
Should i have to keep the BT on always or sync it whenever i want?
+Anierrudh Sundararajan it's recommended that you keep Bluetooth on all the time so that it automatically syncs whenever it's close
