This is the first time I’ve ever guessed correctly each time in one of these kind of videos. I think the Tiffen filters have the most natural look and it’s very noticeable.

  • @TheSteveKinney

an interesting thought experiment is that you used generally different strengths for each filter. It would be interesting to compare with the same "strengths" and see how that changes your thoughts..
for me, I really enjoy the cinebloom when I call for it- it's primarily called on when I really want to just have "a look".. obviously exaggerated, but it gets a look. Great for music videos.
but any other time, I'd LOVE to have the glimmer glass and black satin, they did indeed look nice.

I use the glimmerglass 1/2 for daytime. Gives a subtle diffusion and halation, good for all situations. And I use moment cinebloom 10% for nighttime. Just gives a better look to nighttime light sources than the glimmerglass. For really distinct dream like effects, I use the prism lens fx dream 1 filter. If I want a smokey haze effect, I use the smoque 2 and combine it with glimmer glass 1/2 to still give a subtle halation to light sources.

I was a bit confused watching another RUclips test comparing the different Black Satin filters and it almost looked like the 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 had the same or more softening as the "Black Satin 1". I was considering buying the Black Satin 1 for my go-to minimal softening effect filter but now not sure. Your thoughts?
I want minimal diffusion as possible and if I want more diffusion for a more obvious "look", I'd add that in post. I will be using this filter for all footage taken with my iPhone 14pro because over-sharpening is baked into the footage.

You are absolutely right JC. Black Satin 1/2 for the win, 2nd choice BPM 1/8. The Black Satin absolutely has the highest degree of control as it doesn't flare out the shadows as much. I sure wish tiffen made a grade step between 1/8 and 1/4 BPM.

Here's a question that every time I find a video that talks about the fusion filters no matter if it's for video or stills I have yet to find someone to answer this question correctly as I've used many diffusion filters I need to know what do everyone else do to control flaring one of the coolest things about the fusion filters is how they bloom the light which I think is awesome but it also gives a lot more flaring and some situations so I wanted to know what do other people do to keep the flaring down to control it to maybe even eliminate it.
