Adam Savage has had the pleasure of going behind the scenes of several films and TV shows. Check out our playlist of videos from those set visits! bit.ly/2YpN8qu
I realized I mistook plenty of actual sets for CGI because I couldn't imagine them being real. Absolutely stunning work by everyone involved in creating them.
"No green screen" Music to my ears. Old school. 2049 landed in the box office like the original did. Hopefully it will age well and grow into a classic as well.
Grevlain I gave this movie a solid 9/10 and so did my brother But it sad to say that this movie will not be a classic The theater I went to I saw two people fall asleep and one walk out after 2 hours
It's funny because you have it backwards! It's only through the power of modern software that they don't need to use the Old School green screens any more.
There's a Bladerunner Fan Film called "Slice of Life" that utilizes miniatures and projectors as well to create beautiful backdrop shots of the Bladerunner World - ruclips.net/video/fcDJCZrwkLw/видео.html I think it is just absolutely amazing to see how basically the same techniques are utilized both by really small fan productions as well as big movies.
"So Adam today we are going to dump 5 tonnes of water directly onto you whilst you are submerged in water" "Well that doesn't sound very fun " "It's for Blade runner" Wooooooo
To me, this is modern day film-making at its best: using insane budgets and technical possibilities to create these amazing practical sets, models and digital effects to create - in the end - a composition out of all these things that just looks and feels fantastic and immersive, not only to the viewer but also to the people working on the project.
It was totally one of the best final showdown i've ever seen in any film. The fact that both K and Luv were fighting to death for what they thought was right is totally poetic.
What was so great about this scene is that it was the first scene right after K escapes his caged mind, it is the defining moment when he goes from "pre programmed" to entirely making his own decision, which Luv can't predict. But even though she get's shot down she envies K, she envies that he has finally turned "human", something she has been wanting herself forever, and that is also why she childishly says "I'm the best" after beating him the first time. This scene has so much going for it, but so many people don't get it at all, because they fell off the story 2 hours ago and have no clue what's going on.
The Sea Wall sequence was my favorite part of the whole movie. That and seeing one of the off-world spaceships on the way to the trash mesa. And also the intro scenes and the scene going to LAPD. OMG BOII ITS AMAZING!!! PLZ SUPPORT THIS MOVIEEEE
The Spaceships were just amazing. But I also *really* loved the abandoned casino/nightclub with the Elvis show. So unsettling and cool at the same time.
Something small and probably insignificant to most, but I really like Adam's signalling to the safety divers at 8:08 , it shows to me how he still remembers all his dive training from all his prior training be it during Mythbusters or whenever else.
I love that Adam is so excited and intrigued about all these things he does! I'm a huge Blade Runner fan myself and this brought a wide smile on my face :)
One of the most visually-striking scenes I've ever seen on screen. Those images will stick with me forever, the work they put into this film absolutely showed.
This reminds me of when I was a kid in a swimming pool with a raft. I’d jump up and down timing it to make the pool completely full of waves similar to how they did it here. Just much smaller scale. Lol. Who else used to fill up a pool with raft waves ?
Awesome. we did that as well but if you got one of those foam matts you could make the pool like an ocean bouncing up and down in rhythm just like what the crains were doing. Fun memories for sure!
I used to play with temporary circular pools, and i could put my weight on the edge to make waves almost like in the video. The most fun part though, was running around with multiple people creating a spinning current :D
I absolutely love the way Adam is constantly smiling when he talks about this stuff. I share his joy and passion. I would give anything to travel to these places and see them with my own eyes and experience them.
Great video Adam! I thought this scene was really cool in the movie and I appreciate it even more knowing how it was done- plus your energy and enthusiasm is infectious as always, excellent work!
I would love to be in that tank! So much fun! I loved the movie, too. I remember that scene- the waves, the lighting, the acting. This is why Hollywood is the envy of the world for these kind of movies. Bravo!
Loved the sea wall scene, great illustration of how the environment has changed in 2049 and it’s interesting to see how the spinners react to being in water.
I wasnt sure if I was going to make time to go see the new blade runner in theaters. But after seeing these videos adam and tested are doing showing the background of sets and props and the short film with batista, found one of the last theaters still playing it 30miles away and went last night. It was a great movie and an amazing sequel.
God bless the audio engineers who removed all the sounds of the excavators for the movie, as well as balancing dialog with the wave crashing. Also, God bless everyone using practical effects
I’m so glad I had the chance to see that movie at the cinema when it came out. Watching it on a small screen with limited sound quality doesn’t do it justice. And I’m happy to have found this video, having wondered how those scenes were shot. I never would have guessed it was in the middle of a Forest with old run down buildings surrounding it. Wonderful ingenuity. Blade Runner 2049 has quickly become one of my all time favorites since I first saw it.
Amazing!! Thanks so much for the continued Blade Runner coverage and all the Ridley Scott coverage you've been doing, I hope this trend of you doing in-depth BTS for various departments (from costuming to VFX to props and sets etc) continues!!!!
So great to get to see the behind the scenes logistics, " who would have thought, excavators producing waves" The acronym 'KISS' springs to mind "Keep It Simple Stupid"......so....Simply awesome !!! :)
The second, Gerd started to talk, I knew: "Oh look...a german guy" (because I live there too). Well deserved Oscar for all of them! One of the greatest movies I´ve ever watched (in an IMAX). Thanks to Adam an the team for the behind the scenes clip...!
I'm surprised those excavators could move so quickly, especially with those huge tanks attached. I know the travel was only about 10 feet, but still--. Fun to watch Adam have so much fun. :)
So awesome! Please do more behind the scenes on films. I love it. I wish movies did behind the scenes like they used to back in the day. Now all your get is like a 2 minute making of.
Tested's Adam Savage was channeling the Mythbusters Adam Savage for this episode. I was almost expecting a jump cut to Jamie Hyneman saying "Now for the next part of this experiment, Adam is going to..." I Love It!
Amazing all the work and effort for a simple scene. And was worth it!!! When I saw I was saying to me that "was something there".... (besides the amazing background soundtrack).
Adam what an great guy always willing to try some thing new and show every one how to live life try every thing and know that life is about living it now just sitting watching it pass by. thanks

Adam I am going to have to ask you to make my wish come true and lets build something together. Please..
Adam Savage’s Tested you are on a very good role! Good for you. You are so exuberant and appreciative of other people’s work.
Love it
😀🕺🏻🎥🏖🇦🇺
This little stunt they put on for Adam probably costed them close to $30,000 even for 10 minutes lol. Expensive demonstration lol.
I realized I mistook plenty of actual sets for CGI because I couldn't imagine them being real. Absolutely stunning work by everyone involved in creating them.
"No green screen" Music to my ears. Old school. 2049 landed in the box office like the original did. Hopefully it will age well and grow into a classic as well.
everything about the film looked great. Sadly i thought the story was too slow paced
green screens are fairly old school though even the road warrior used em
Grevlain I gave this movie a solid 9/10 and so did my brother
But it sad to say that this movie will not be a classic
The theater I went to I saw two people fall asleep and one walk out after 2 hours
Just remind that the original blade runner also did a flop at his launch. It only became a classic after years.
It's funny because you have it backwards! It's only through the power of modern software that they don't need to use the Old School green screens any more.
So this is Origo studios in Budapest.
Denis' team recently built a huge desert set there for Dune too.. but that's a big secret ;)
lol, just saw the trailer
6 months ahead of the curve, get this King a crown
These water scenes were so stunning. Best part of the film.
yeah I completely bought it watching the film, never thought for a second that they were not shooting in the ocean
Yeah thats amazing how they made that shoreline look infinite in the film.
Chris Landry Don't need your negativity around here, buddy ✌🏼
My favorite part as well, so intense. I loved the art in the city too. Great film.
True
All the aerial shots of the city in the movie were digitally enhanced miniatures. So cool.
Right?! I only found out after watching that behind the scene video! ruclips.net/video/sLxxbfsj8IM/видео.html Totally fooled me!
There's a Bladerunner Fan Film called "Slice of Life" that utilizes miniatures and projectors as well to create beautiful backdrop shots of the Bladerunner World - ruclips.net/video/fcDJCZrwkLw/видео.html
I think it is just absolutely amazing to see how basically the same techniques are utilized both by really small fan productions as well as big movies.
Wow, really?
The ocean scene was one of the most tense, beautiful sequences I've seen in years and this BTS was fascinating
Fionn Burrows wasn’t the ocean ... it was a water canal
"So Adam today we are going to dump 5 tonnes of water directly onto you whilst you are submerged in water"
"Well that doesn't sound very fun "
"It's for Blade runner"
Wooooooo
Brilliant h

Agreed, modern CGI is great but really it's perfect when it's a perfect harmony with practical effects and CGI to enhance it.
It's pretty cool to see this after watching the movie
This scene was so amazing, and knowing it was made from scratch in this million gallon pool makes it even cooler!
Samuel N. the whole movie was incredible, but that scene in particular was totally awesome.
Only in BR2049 where a scene of drowning people to their death looks like a freakin' poetry.
... with the track "Sea Wall" playing ... stunning ... chills...
It was totally one of the best final showdown i've ever seen in any film. The fact that both K and Luv were fighting to death for what they thought was right is totally poetic.
Samuel N. Actually it was made from scratches which is even more impressive because scratches are pretty basic building materials
I really want to see Wallace's "Water Office Room" set. Don't know what else you would call it.
A room filled with fresh water, and paneling entirely made out of wood. Wallace's wealth truly has no limit.
I call it "The Heaven Hall"
Anon E. Mus You also have to consider the circumstances in 2049! Its crazy!
The idea of using wood was to show that wood was the most expensive commodity and Wallace's wealth was so rich, it was all made out of wood.
+Adeel Ejaz Thanks for explaining what Anon E. Mus already explained, lol.
3:58 "We'd love to get you wet" Since being on Blade Runner sets is Adams dream I think you're a bit late.
To be fair, the scene in the movie was sick
Chris Landry Are you just going comment to comment implying that the film was shit?
What was so great about this scene is that it was the first scene right after K escapes his caged mind, it is the defining moment when he goes from "pre programmed" to entirely making his own decision, which Luv can't predict. Absolutely
I can still listen those incredible noisy synths from that scene, perfect match
Adam gets to live out his stunt guy dreams! I love how low tech yet effective the whole setup is...
Calvin Witt i think that is what made this movie so good. All the practical effects they used instead of cgi.
Blade runner theme park.
Christo vimal pls dont tease me
Christo vimal complete with Joi
Something small and probably insignificant to most, but I really like Adam's signalling to the safety divers at 8:08 , it shows to me how he still remembers all his dive training from all his prior training be it during Mythbusters or whenever else.
Every time one of the tested BR49 videos come out it makes me want to re-watch the movie
Talk about having a dream experience.
Being on the set of the sequel to your favorite movie of all time????
*YYYYAAAAASSSSSSSS!!!!!!*
The guy's thick German accent is the noise of serious professional.
Is Adam living the dream or what?!
uhhh ya duhhhhh lol
A wet one ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
gah new that was in here after that comment and if it wasnt it would have been lol
I love that Adam is so excited and intrigued about all these things he does! I'm a huge Blade Runner fan myself and this brought a wide smile on my face :)

FroZenThai awesome!!! I remember doing that at a friends has years ago. Ha ha. Great memories for sure.
And if you got everyone running around fast enough for long enough, we could all stop and lazy river around for a bit. Childhood summers, man.
Yes! Did that all the time. Wish I could be a kid again.
I absolutely love the way Adam is constantly smiling when he talks about this stuff. I share his joy and passion. I would give anything to travel to these places and see them with my own eyes and experience them.
All this hard really payed off, the sea wall scene was so spectacular I couldn’t take my eyes away from the screen I was so blown away!
Bravo!
This made me smile so much, Adam has worked hard to earn the ability to have amazing experiences like this. Go him, its very inspiring
I love how you can hear that the guy is from Germany
Homerion Check, that is how we sound when we talk :)
Sis is not trrru :D
Ich bin auch aus Deutschland
Ich kenn das
@@btaeffner3469 Ich bin Schweizer und denk mir: "Der is doch Schweizer!?" :*D
No love for Silvia Hoeks? I would say she was the true star actor in the scene this set was built for.
she's the best one
Niels Poldervaart she was excellent
Good lord, I thought it was CG! Making all of this practical is utter madness, massive kudos to the production team!
Loved the sea wall scene, great illustration of how the environment has changed in 2049 and it’s interesting to see how the spinners react to being in water.
It’s amazing what goes into the making of a spectacular scene
3:58 Absolute Savage pun completely intended
The movie is sick saw it 2 weeks ago
Good of Adam to signal the divers at the end, (when be placed his fist on his head to indicate "okay").
I was just blessed with the opportunity to watch BR2019 a second time in the theater last night! My god that film gets better for me each time.
The Stunt supervisor Sounds like Jörg sprave from the slingshot Channel
Both German ;) Maybe thats why?
drachenklaue07 and he does show us the functions
or how Hitler would if he knew english. (i wonder if he did)...Jorg's accent is what makes him so adorable
Toto Wolf - Mercedes Petronas F1 team principal
I wish Adam Savage was my dad.
i would say the ending fight in the storming waves to _2049_ is one of the most memorable i've ever seen, and the best of that decade. totally.
I wasnt sure if I was going to make time to go see the new blade runner in theaters. This was so neat! Glad Adam got to experience it and share it with us.
I’m so glad I had the chance to see that movie at the cinema when it came out. Watching it on a small screen with limited sound quality doesn’t do it justice. Damn, Adam's smile made my entire day! Boy his love and enthusiasm is so genuine :D
Wow awesome!! I love seeing the safety divers. What a job, what a job indeed
Amazing!! Thanks so much for the continued Blade Runner coverage and all the Ridley Scott coverage you've been doing, I hope this trend of you doing in-depth BTS for various departments (from costuming to VFX to props and sets etc) continues!!!!
Peanut Turner nu
That smile when he went in the water .. Priceless !! :)
I love these videos of Adam having the time of his life
Adam basically turns into a child when he's doing something he loves and it's fucking awesome. Everyone should be that happy about something.
3:25 those two scuba divers are falling in love. Lol
Adam is such a good interviewer. not only that but his Chemistry on camera is still up there :D
I love how enthusiastic Adam is lol he’s completely fearless. Goals :D
That plane attack scene was just *_Epic_*
adam you are and have been one of my favorite people of all time. thank you for being you :)
Beautiful set. Worked wonders.
Cool to see behind the scenes of an iconic film
I'm surprised those excavators could move so quickly, especially with those huge tanks attached. I know the travel was only about 10 feet, but still--. Fun to watch Adam have so much fun. :)
Adam saw this movie before he even saw the movie!
So awesome! Please do more behind the scenes on films. I love it. I wish movies did behind the scenes like they used to back in the day. Now all your get is like a 2 minute making of.
Tested's Adam Savage was channeling the Mythbusters Adam Savage for this episode.
I was almost expecting a jump cut to Jamie Hyneman saying "Now for the next part of this experiment, Adam is going to..."
I Love It!
Blade Runner fan from my youth, Completely geeked out by this!
Tested seriously needs heaps more content like this
that setup is pretty cool.
I was hoping when Adam came out of the change room in the wet suit he would quote himself from mythbusters and say "Is everyone ready for diving?"
Ryan Scannell exactly what I thought.
3:58 "Yes, we'd love to get you wet!" I literally died of laughter.
Adam is the man! What an awesome experience!
This makes me appreciate blade runner even more
Adam gets to be a really smart kid everyday. And it’s so great.
You've got to love this German English
No german, trust me:D
Hes german
That scarf on point Adam
it is from Paul Smith UK Designer :)
Serious BLADERUNNER nut
that looked like a blast Adam.
The seawall was such an epic scene. Great to see how it was achieved.
It's so cool to see how they put my favorite setpiece in the movie together...
Just another day at DYSTOPIAN BEACH.
There’s always that excitement on set at the beginning soon wears off after 20 reshoots
Adam seems nervously excited. Its great.
Amazing all the work and effort for a simple scene. And was worth it!!! When I saw I was saying to me that "was something there".... (besides the amazing background soundtrack).
Adam Savage is my spirit animal!!
One of the coolest things I’ve seen him get to
I don’t know why but the coolest part is the drop off onto the bottom of the tank where divers are just chilling for safety reasons
Every chance he gets to be a part of something. Be it his or someone elses, he has the joy of a kid.
thats 100% awesome! i'd love to go do that
@ 5:15 they actually start the waves with Adam standing near the front. It is scary how real and dangerous the effects are.
This my favourite scene from the film this fight sequence is epic.
Those diggers with the ballasts attached to them are frikin genius
makes me want to watch the movie again!! great work adam!
I have wanted to see this set since first watching the scene in theaters.
Could Adam possibly look any happier? "We're gonna throw five tons of water at you." "Yes plz"
Now I see why this scene feels so real
Adam what an great guy always willing to try some thing new and show every one how to live life try every thing and know that life is about living it now just sitting watching it pass by. thanks
Makes me so happy to see Adam in the water, reminds me of Mythbusters.
this scene was incredible
this team is bringing us DUNE.... my excitement cannot be calmed!!!
Such a great experience thank you for sharing
