Tip for sculpting filigree: use a pasta machine to get really uniform noodles to sculpt with. Then make a crosshatch texture where you wanna attach the noodle and on the noodle itself. It creates more surface area to adhere to.

When you use foam clay, you're supposed to gently dampen the area you want to attach it to, then sculpt it while damp. But obviously with worbla, it has to be warm to get gluey. So what I would probably do is heat up the worbla and use a wet foam noodle then sculpt from there. Hope this helps.

A suggestion that I would have for the uv resin would be getting some alcohol inks. The resin typically has problems with higher opacity and the alcohol inks get you the color and keeps it more clear. You can get a nail polish curing lamp for easier curing. Also remember that the thinner the layer of resin the longer it’ll take to cure! The corset looks amazing and I can’t wait to see what you make next!

Use a picture frame mold to get sharp corners, but instead of hot glue use epoxy sculpt. You should be able to pop the clay back out before it fully sets, lay it onto the corset where you plan on putting it, and you could manipulate the shape a bit. You'd get sharper corners that you are looking for. A baroque circle mirror mold would have worked pretty well for the "windows" of this piece. Idk. It's stuff you probably already have or have tried, but I feel helpful mentioning it lol... Edit: If you used a mirror mold for those windows, you could have done the outside in clay, and the inside with resin and alcohol inks to get the stained glass look. Or, instead of clear plastic in the window, use stained glass window film cut to size.

I like to use a small loop of elastic to attach chains. You just attach the jump ring to the little loop, then if the chain gets tugged, it will have a bit of play from the elastic so it is less likely to break. :3 (I've broken so many chains and jump rings... Had to find a way to avoid it. I got sick of packing a tube of superglue around at cons.)

kira this came out so beautiful!! im glad you came around to it at the end because i agree, i think you leveled your skills up a lot with this one!
i have some tips for resin since it was, for a time, my material of choice. i hope these will be helpful:
    1) uv resin can't cure properly with dark or opaque colors-this is because the dark color prevents the uv light from fully penetrating the piece. if the light can't get in, it can't set the resin, and it will remain sticky and uncured forever. if you want dark/opaque colors, the best way to do it is with epoxy resin, which cures slowly over a period of hours instead of momentarily with UV.
    2) similarly to the above, any molds you use with uv resin have to be translucent so that the UV can reach. for instance, the filigree molds you use probably wouldn't allow you to get a proper cure with a uv resin because they're a solid pink/red color. (i know you didn't do this, but just for future reference-don't want those beautiful molds to get ruined!)
    3) for coloring resin, you have to be very careful with what you choose to use, because lots of colorants don't mix well with resin. as you noted, the acrylic paint inhibited the cure, causing some parts to stay wet forever. instead, i recommend alcohol inks (for translucent colors) and mica powders (for glitteryness). on that note, please be very careful if some of your pieces are sticky/tacky, because uncured epoxy is very harmful!
    4) to save your hand from holding up a little uv light forever, a cheap uv nail lamp is great for batch-curing lots of pieces at once!
    5) i think it's probably for the best that you ended up not coating the whole piece in resin-since it has no flex, i think the coating probably would have ended up cracking when you tried to put it on. i think there's certain 3d printer resins that can be flexible, but standard epoxy or uv resin should cure hard!
i know that's a big wall of text but i hope it is helpful!! resin is a very finicky but beautiful material. i think it shines best in applications like jewelry and prop making-perhaps you could experiment with making some crystal daggers to go with your porcelain corsets? :) i hope you have lots of fun with it!

Love the vampire corset. It is beyond amazing and you look stunning in it!
Not to be presumptuous, but here is a technique you might like.
Look into adding shrink a dink to your ornaments making arsenal. You can take any image, manipulate it to your heart's content, print it onto computer compatible shrink a dink sheets. They come in various colors like clear, gold, and white as I recall. Prepare the image at 50% saturation. Reverse flip if using writing. Plan for layers if desired. Load a sheet square with enough images to use up the whole sheet. Print on the shrink sheet. Order online if you can't find locally retail. Cut out the individual images. Add holes( use a hole puncher will be the right size when it shrinks) strategically for sew on if desired. Place on tinfoil if shape is desired(can be right out of the oven). Bake in an oven on brown craft paper or parchment baking paper to avoid sticking. The shapes will shrink like 30-50% as I recall. Same sheet cut apart and baked at the same time will shrink to the same %/size. The oven ideally will be used only for craft like an old toaster oven used outside (fumes). The shrink wrap will curl before going back into shape and will thicken.
You may have to gently pat it down with a wood tool of sort. I would watch it pretty closely. Glue with a good craft glue. Add jewels. Coat with a protective clear spray or medium. Sew, rivet or glue onto your piece.
You might also look into cake tube decorating ideas using foam instead of icing.
    Looking forward to more !

For the UV resin, i second any comments about alcohol inks. They work really well with any type of resin. Also, for stuff like the gems, getting one of those UV gel nail polish cure lights- the little dome guys you put your hands in- makes curing UV resin a lot more hands off and you can work in like batches without putting them outside (where stuff can get stuck to them) or holding the light yourself.

  • @with_whimsy
    @with_whimsy Год назад +1

So for the resin and color, you can use epoxy pigment which tints the resin. You only need a couple drops and can mix the colors! I learned about it from Boylei Hobby Time’s water dioramas. Your work came out stunning as usual!

For coloring resin, you can use resin dye to color the uv resin! It will work much better than using paint. I use the Let’s Resin brand and it’s worked great for me so far. You can also use alcohol inks too but that might affect your resin curing time if you use too much. Another option, is using mica powder too! If you can, I highly recommend doing little experiments with the types of dyes before you go head on into another project if you want to use resin. 👍
Anyway, thanks for another video! The vampire corset looks so pretty and gothic vibes ❤

Honestly it looks very D&D and we love. When I have uneven resin surfaces i do thin layers changing how the piece is laying then it can slowly build up to flat (for time the first few layers dont need any dyes etc since they'll be covered by the later ones). Instead of acrylic you could mix in unflavored koolaid packies or ground up chalk. Im partial to the chalk, sometimes i mix it with rubbing alcohol to make a dye type of color but ive never tried that with uv resin

For resin you want to normally use mica powders or alcohol inks, and with uv resin you could partially cure it, carefully bend it (and I mean carefully, it is isn't cured enough you can very easily leave finger prints, but those can be easily covered by painting on another thin layer on top as a kind of seal)

God you make beautiful things! I'm impressed every time you make wearable art!
I don't know if you already know this but wanted to do it your way, but the resin parts/windows - you get a lot more control if you paint in the effect you want with paint or glitter on the background/window first, then once dry add the resin over the paint to seal and give depth.
If you want more of a 3d look, you can paint more on top of the set resin and then when dry add another layer of resin on top - repeat this technique as many times as you want (or as many times you can before you run out of borders).
Not only is it easier to get the desired effect this way but you aren't adding more moisture to your resin making it take longer to set (or not set completely in some cases) .
I hope this is helpful and not patronising.

Instead of trying to resin over the final pieces in the future with like, a two part resin or UV resin, consider using a catalyzed automotive clear coat. "Catalyzed" for those who don't know basically means "hardens when mixed" when used in this context. It's essentially rattle can sprayable resin, when you use it you have to pop a little thing in the bottom of the can and shake it to mix it, after which you only have a certain amount of working time (often about 24-48 hours) before the whole can hardens

Sounds like the paint you mixed it with blocks UV light. Most paint tends to be "fade resistant" which just means it blocks some of the UV light. I would make sense for a products medium to carry the UV blocker if it is labeled as such but, by the sound of it the darker pigments block UV light on their own strengthening the UV protection.
