Buy a small 3-6 unit apartment building, keeping one unit for yourself. This will provide income (pay the mortgage); keeping 1 unit for yourself while your investment pays for itself. If you can afford a house in a respectable neighborhood, that a small apartment building should be within reach.
BEST IDEA I HAVE HEARD YET..... IF you have a property manager to take care of routine issues with those occupied units. Those people need to call someone when the plumbing, electrical, etc fails and they need repairs. You would also be wise to have someone to ensure that the tenants are behaving, and not destroying the unit in your absense
Mike would the perfect person for that.
I really hope he sees this comment thread. Great ideas!
Awesome idea
I don't think he has a spare tens of millions around to buy an apartment building?
Glad they're covering the bus more. We're seriously considering buying a bus ourselves and renovating it and this is getting us all hopped up to do it :D
Sounds cool i wish you luck, could you post videos of it as i as well they are always so interesting!
Thanks! We've really thought about making it a big focus of our channel. Just not sure whether we should take the plunge or not. Big responsibility!
I have the same ambition as you guys but if you do decide to go for it and you need some music for videos I make loads of stuff you can use for free :)
Thanks for the offer! 👍
Anytime :) I've always liked the idea of renovating a bus since I was a kid so I'm also considering it after seeing the vlogs
You have it all wrong, at 33 you SHOULD buy your own place...typical 20-25 year mortgage will have you OWNING before retirement. It's an investment which will MAKE YOU MONEY in long term, don't get greedy thinking about renting it out. Even if you're only there 2 months out of the year, every payment you make will get you dividends down the road. Look at it as a savings account that returns higher amount than you put in.
Only wish I started buying a house at 33 !! I would own it now with HUGE amount of equity !
Great way of looking at it
i always thought louis was nearly 40
It would be an incredible amount of money to pay, especially if your dream is to own your own developed land in the end anyways.
He should only buy a house to rent out. Paying a mortgage on your own home is NOT an investment. There are way better assets that will give you monthly income, and a house is not one of them.
did you not hear him? there's no point, he's in a different country every six months...
Buy a bigger place for your parents live there when in the uk.
Yeh they will be so thankful that they won't care
Great idea
Don't think he could afford to
What about all that crazy youtube money though?
cainrok He said mortgage, im sure his parents already have one.
When louie said him and raya need there own space we all know what he meant by that, lol.
LOL
😉
I'm not sure, tell me more?
+OXS Enterprises when they have you know
That they need their own space, maybe?
You should also check out the "tiny" house movement which might fulfill part of the treehouse vibe you're looking for... small eco footprint, and you just need to find a small plot of land. You could also move it whenever a change of scenery suits you 😊
Buying a house is a good idea regardless of whether you stay in it or not as it is a good investment
are u dumb.... (money)
I would totally agree IF he had a reputable person, company etc to make frequent vacant house checks, to insure that no problem arises while he was away. I used to run a Vacant House Check business where I would check 5 houses a day ( 25 clients ) and did routine repairs, or arranged for more complicated repairs as necessary. A lot can go wrong in a very short time when a house is left vacant.
+Francisco Relvão Are you dumb?
Totally agree, landlords are always stuck dealing with clogged toilets etc.
Salute to the creative of minds of your team for that awesome bus transformation. Can't wait to see the final outcome!
two thumbs up!
when that bus is done, I hope he could start building his own house
it would be more awesome if they can make that a transformer robot-bus hahaha
are they going to put a roof or something for that bus?
maybe you should look into the "tiny house movement" people buy land and build a small house on it, which is really offbeat and pretty cool so that might be something for you
Well you have a great temporary accommodation on the bus! It's already got your coffee machine and fridge in so your sorted Louis :D
All he needs is a bed now lol
I wonder if he's going to make it livable for his road trips
He could put a canvass roof over the open top roof. So that it can be a useable place when weather is bad. & can keep stuff up there and maybe even sleep on a blow up bed on the top there.
+Andy Stephens same I thought they would put beds in
Does anybody else find that all of Louis' videos go back to the old grey RUclips layout?
i thought it was just my computer! i reloaded the page multiple times
Yep does the same for me its weird.
Thought it was just me
Hey Louis I can help you with some advice on this. My family had 6 acres of land in kent that we got for around £30,000 25 years ago. We got planning permission for a house but this is really really tough in the South East and it was only possible because my dad worked in Agriculture and made a case for taking care of the land as part of his job. Unfortunately our circumstances changed and we never built the house so just lived on the land in a caravan, but we still had to get permission for this and again it was only because of my dad working the land - so getting permission for tree houses to live in will probably be very difficult. We sold the land 2 years ago and for reference it went for £1 million - for 6 acres of land with no house but planning permission, so this should demonstrate how difficult it is to be able to build on private land in the South East. So I think you might find this a very expensive option in the current market! If you got the land first and then applied for planning permission it will be a nightmare for you as we even struggled years ago and now the rules are even tougher. You're looking in the hardest place in the UK for this sort of idea. You'd find it much easier in Wales or somewhere on the North Welsh/English border (or Scotland but not sure if you wanted to be so far away). My dad now lives there and has managed to get permission to build another dwelling and it wasn't too hard. Good luck!
Also you might be thinking you can build treehouses without permission because it's your land but if it's your residence you'll need it. Of course you could build them without saying anything or declaring which would probably go undiscovered for the average Joe but as you are quite well known you'd have to hide it from all your viewers or you might get people to start investigating if they are legit - especially if you are hooking up electricity and water and things.
I genuinely hope you achieve your treehouse community goal! I think that sounds beautiful and think of the community gardens!
You should make your old boom bus into a portable house and just store it when your gone, right now it's the same situation it's just not liveable
Stoked on the treehouse idea man! Hold out for that. You don't need a place yet
I miss Rachel
who that?
OMG WHATEVER HAPPENED TO HER?!?!?
+Squirtleinyourashe she deleted her insta I think because she couldn't handle being a bit famous, I'm 90% sure she's back at her old job as a teacher in Australia
I miss Lane
I miss Colin.
Finally working with sony stoked on this collab with them! Gratz
why is it that if i watch louis his flogs i get the old youtube video player and any other video i get the new one this happens on my computer my parents computer and on my laptop
Love ya Louis but the treehouse idea sounds so much like the start of a cult bahaha 😂😂😂 😜😜😜
I actually love the new sound your phone makes when you like a comment now!
Hey Louis! I suggest buying a rental property that has 2-3 units, keep one for yourself & Raya, rent out the other ones to cover your mortgage and have someone manage the property while you are away :)
hey Louis, there is nothing better than the feeling of have a key to your place you call home, weather you travel or at home, also now that you have a woman is even the more reason to have your own place, so you have privacy and the comfort you put into the home to make it yours...one love.
Absolutely need to have a trip with all six of you!!
Buy an RV that you can park somewhere with family when you're there and can store when you aren't or maybe even take on European roadtrips. But you're literally a vagabond, embrace it.
And when money gets sparse find a desert, park up and cook some meth
+Mr Krabz Best comment award goes to you
You give me the confidence to keep going with my own channel, thank you so much for that.
Best vlogger on the tube, definitely deserves that sony partnership
dude I am all for living on the bus.... that sounds pretty epic to me! Good to see ye back on our timeline in uk!!!
As I see it, so much of your life is free that the concept of actually buying something must be difficult. However, it is extremely important to own something at some point, so unless you are planning to live on your bus...Go for it!
1. When are you going to get that mole checked out? I'm elderly, i worry!
2. When you find the land *wherever*, you should contact Pete Nelson from TreeHouse Masters. He has a show on Animal Planet here in the U.S.
Pete makes the best tree houses ive ever seen, he really brings your vision to life
Watch yesterday's vlog he went to the doctors
oh yea, right here Louis! i've seen some episodes of Treehouse masters and Pete's work is absolutely brilliant!, a definite guy to get in contact with for tree houses.
Invest in the land you want for the treehouse and put a self sustaining tiny/medium house on the property to live in and rent out as an airbnb. Hope this gives you some ideas. Cheers Louis!!
"Louis, you're 33..."
The way you said that made me chuckle hahaha
if you can't find a property now it's because isn't the right time. If the right time comes you will find your dream property. Have faith how things come in your life.
Wait, you need a house and you are planning to make a tree house? Your girlfriend must be so happy about that. Just buy your own house.
He wants to have his own treehouse community on the water. It's a pretty cool idea. He describes his idea in an older vlog if you can find it. It probably has "treehouse" in the title.
+Emma Hauenstein on water?
+dixy pixy meaning near a river or a lake.
whats your problem bro
Is this your life Kkthxbbgg?
I just this go up while watching the latest sawyer video. I get notifications, and yes, it works. Loving the bus Louis
Hey Louis why don't you convert your old bus into a camper van
Something you need to know with buying land, not everyone advertises it as up for sale. You need to be approaching land owners: farmers, estates, everything, with offers on plots of their land. We bought 4 and a half acres about 20 years ago and it wasn't even for sale, the farmer hadn't even considered selling any land.
Easy....buy your self a wee house with a back garden, build yourself one of those really cute log cabins, rent out the house and when you are in the UK use the log cabin
Louis, are you still planning to place that airplane on that land also, ages ago I remember you looking at planes to buy for that idea. Is that still on your agenda?
AMAZING Vlog i would love a tour of louis lenses if anyone knows what he uses
PS you could always live on the live the adventure bus :D
He has FE28 F2 with the UWC converter, 24-240, 24-70GM, 85GM, 35 1.4
All tested on my channel
SPDTDL Thank You will check it out
SnapzHunting FYI i watched the vlog :D
There is not really any room on the live the adventure bus to put a bed, shower etc plus you need air conditioning and to get it classified as a camper van
Would of cost less to do all than than the hot tub!
it's probably good to go along to property auctions or talk to some property managers. it would be rare to find plots of land in or around build up cities as those cities will expand. maybe try somewhere near bath as there are many plots of land that may be up for sale
Hey Louis have you ever considered doing your treehouse project in Normandy ? Land is cheap around here, it's the same weather and not too hard to come and go to the uk. Plus the pound is higher than the euros so you would be able to have a bigger project and a larger tree house. Plus same sort of weather and gorgeous gorgeous place
I think when you buy a plot of land you become a Lord or Lady... Lord Louis, it has a ring to it😂
well that's just incorrect
Louis. With planning you can purchase a property and use a company to manage it whilst you’re not using it. This company should have spare properties (from their other clients) you (or your tenant, if you want to use your own property) can use for short-term stays, and this is usually covered in the fee they’d charge you to manage your property.
My dad has managed his own letting agency in London for years, and this is fairly standard practice.
Thumbs up if this is a good solution and Louis should message me ;)
Louis, have a look at land in Hampshire, it does not cost too much, it has forests and it is in the south of England...
Louis, why don't you buy one of those mini houses that you can just hook up to the back of a car and take it wherever you want? It's way cheaper than renting a place you'll rarely ever be at
What does Raya do for a living?
Vlogging
+SELFMADE Keep it up with fue ABs!
She does Louis. ;-)
+Linus Wärn hahah ;p
+Luke Otter yeah RUclips is more of a hobby for her I guess :/
Why dont you pay for renovations on your mum and dads house in the interim. I can help with the construction process (I have a masters in Project Management) but not in acquiring land.
I think ultimately you have to think long term. Where do you see yourself when your old? If it's in a tree house make it happen dude. If it's in a house, you can do it. As long as you love it.
If you go to Cuba also check out Little Cayman - about two hours from Cuba (fly to Grand Cayman or Cayman Brac then get a 9 seater plane over) it's one of the only remaining undeveloped islands in the caribbean and is absolutely picture perfect as well as having some of the best diving/snorkelling and fishing in the world - and pretty amazing weather.
Hi Louis! How about purchasing a property with two dwellings where you can rent out a main house and keep an apartment/tree house/tiny house for your use whenever you are in town. Priced right, your rent income can cover the cost of the mortgage. If property management isn't desirable, hiring a company to do that takes some of the hassle out of the process. That's my dream anyhow!
I'd love to see you go to Rio again! Loved those vlogs with your Dad and Darcy :))
I am so in love with your idea of the treehouse community! just sounds awesome! and I wouldn't listen to people who tell you what to do just because your a certain age. If it doesnt make sense for YOUR life right now then thats the way it is.
love your vlogs!
all the best to you
You could have 2 buses, one for party and one for sleep, buy a block of land to keep them on. You can still travel with them too :)
Why is the hot tub circle minimizing the space and if u needed to get behind it just create a top you can pull off the borders of the hottub.
Could you afford to buy a small house, rent it out as an Air B&B when not in town (and that would cover your mortgage and possibly make you some money) and just don't rent it out during the 2 or so months you need it? Later you could possibly sale at a profit and buy your dream property. Another possibility, if it's possible maybe you could pay to add a "granny flat" to your parent's place. It would be great for you and add value to your parents place.
why when watching fun for louis does my youtube change to a really old version of it? this never happens on any other channel
Steve is a total lad for growing the bun!
Not sure about the UK, but the tiny house movement is pretty strong right now in the US. Low cost, low maintenance, can be mobile and the best part, no mortgage. If you find your land, might be a good option until you get your tree house built. Here's builders that operate in the US: www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2015/02/10-magnificent-tiny-home-design-companies.html
How about those vacation rental homes you can get at resorts and other places, that would probably work better for your lifestyle?
Louis is like anyone's best friend. 🌞🌞
how do I get those annotations at the end if his videos in my videos!
You could stay on the bus while you're in England. While travelling you can rent out the bus. I think you and Raya are perfect together ! Love your videos.
Buy a duplex and rent out one side of it. It should help with those mortgage payments and it wouldn't be completely gone to waste when you're traveling.
Your intro is goals.
Yay vlogs keep up the work :)))
Do you know spongebob
Dude love you stuff.keep up the great vlogs.☺️👌🏼
I agree with you. Doesn't make the most sense to buy a house right now if you're traveling as often as you do. Sure it's a good investment, but lots of work as you mentioned, and if you rent it out long term you can't even stay in it when you need to, like you said. There's no "right age" to buy a house. Just buy one when you want to someday!
Buy a house everywhere in the world & problem solved! #nailedit
you can rent out the place 6 months at a time lease..... or don't buy a huge house maybe just a small home that way it won't be overwhelming paying for the house.. or do both.
There's at least two patches of tree'd forest for sale near Lepe Beach/Calshot, which is between Beaulieu & Southampton.
Bus is looking incredible!!!
I think your plan to buy land is smart. Good place to start. Get a prime piece of land in the ideal location. Maybe in a few years you may need to settle primarily in one spot and then you can plan to build. But in the meantime you need to plop a double wide trailer or "tiny house" (which seem so popular these days) on the land so you have a place for you and your girlfriend.
Louis you should go back to Cuba and when you get then land you should try and contact tree house masters it's a show on discovery or natgeo and basically they build awesome tree houses for people
I don't know if this is last week's news and people are over it, but I learned about the North Korea controversy around Louis's videos and felt I had to speak up.
I just published a video explaining why his videos are NOT propaganda, and why the media is wrong for the way they handled this. Having a vlog that focuses on human stories and positivity isn't propaganda - it's one of the greatest things a travel vlogger can aim for.
Anyway if you're interested in my video, have a look. 👊
Start watching Mr. Robot!!! Amazing amazing amazing series! It'll have you thinking. For sure.
Not sure if it's on Netflix but it is on Amazon Prime Video.
Louis you could try googling the lammas project, and steward wood as they sound like similar things to what you were asking for in the uk.
Currently watching 3 FFL vlogs everyday ....yup I've got about one month of vlogs that I missed out on lol
What do ambassadors do for companies? I know that Sam Evans is an ambassador for go pro but he's never really in an office all the time. So do ambassadors just represent the company and help promote it at events and stuff or what?
While I don't travel near as much as you, I find myself in a similar situation of needing to find a place to stay about every year.
Thought about buying a house and what makes the most sense to me ( I think) is to rent out all of the bedrooms except for one. That way, long term renters could stay there and I can still come and go as I please because I'll just keep a bedroom for myself.
Since the goal isn't to make money of renting property, but rather just give me a house and have people pay for it.
Really, I just need somewhere to store my stuff so I don't have to pack/unpack all the time.
If you have the money DO NOT RENT AN APARTMENT... Condo fees, building renovations forced on you, noise restrictions, water pressure issues... The list goes on. Living in one now and they have some construction going on (forced on all renting tenants AND owners). You don't have to shovel a drive way in the winter but you lose a lot of freedom.
There's land outside Guildford, like shere/ albury/ peaslake/ abinger areas, lots of forrest around
rent the property out as an HMO. so buy a property with a few rooms rent each room out and keep one bedroom for yourself.. lock the room so the other people in the house cant go in when your not there.. so you will be making money from rent and also have a room to come back to when your back in the UK
have a great day everyone!
Amazing job Louis!
I like how his partner is still with, and loves him, despite him not having a house to his name at 33. Big respect
Congrats with your meeting with Sony!
Oh man this is some exciting stuff ey!!
well u could do what my friend does as a flight attendant.. she rents a place out but she lets the tenant know the spare room is off limits and that it may be occupied at any point in time by you when you come back into the country. or maybe time share Bens apt? if he willing? unless ur in the UK at the same time..
Louis, dear one. You asked - so this is my advise. First, I am 53 yrs old and have traveled most of my life with a career in music until I became disabled in my late 30's and had to stop the touring in my early 40's. I lived the vagabond life since I was 16, but started singing for money at age 12. Many years of storing very important things at my mothers. Going from one hotel, or bus bunk to the next.Drawing from my own experiences of life, I think the question is do you see a life long future with Raya? Personally I am rooting for you two! lol It appears that Raya really loves you and would go with you to the ends of the earth if that is what you chose to do.....but, no matter how much you both enjoy the life of travel. It is in a woman's heart to have a home base usually. It really starts getting to be a strong calling as you start maturing into your 30's. Think of it like this. You both deserve a place that is all yours. Your fortress, and home that will always be the center of your gravity. A place to rest, build your love, make plans for the future there, and abroad. It would also give you both more comfort when at times you aren't traveling together. It took me a long time to buy my home here in the U.S. - but I love it here in the Ozark Mtn's, next to Bull Shoals Lake. I live in Ar. but can see Mo. from my kitchen window. Think about it, pray about it, it is a big step....but could be one of the most joyful steps and building of a foundation to the next chapter in your future that you should embrace and not want to miss a moment of it. Blessings!
Weather looks freaking awesome ... cue Van Morrison "in the summer time"
yoooooooo casey's baaaackkkk
Awesome job Sony I like it when these companies help support RUclipsrs they hit such a better audience than these huge $$ commercials.
Norfolk is a great place for woodland, unfortunatly may be a bit far east for you !
West Anglia.
You kidding? I live in Norfolk, it's East Anglia
Yes. C'mon you Canaries! Why did you say bit far west for you?
Yeah I saw like 35 to 50 Akers of land for 100000 to 500000
+Sebastian where abouts
You and Raya should go to woodstock in October to catch the amazing foliage up thar.
Buying land is all well and good but if you want to build tree houses planning is going to be a big issue, you are going to have to pump a lot of money into it and your still not guaranteed to get planning
The BUS is looking just like I thought it would! All wood that hot tub perfect! I see it as a retreat bus!
PLANTS!
PEACE LOVE & DREAM'S!🍁
💝🌐💫📷🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✔🎭🚌🌴🛁🌿🌾☕🕊💚💭🎬
Louis you should buy a cottage in the English countryside somewhere and definitely build a bunch of tree houses around it. The Livetheadventure HQ. Then you can set up an international RUclipsrs retreat/festival each year at that location. What an event that would be.
I think you should get a place that's big enough like a 2 floor flat. You stay above and rent out the bottom.
gratss on 1200 vlogs
When I worked in the Guildford/Maidstone area there used to be quite a bit of Farmland for sale! Although im not sure if there was planning permission included though! worth a look into though!
