- I've been here in Alaska for one month now, it is absolutely beautiful! This trip wasn’t planned, however I needed a job. So I randomly applied for one coolworks.com and two weeks later, here I am. Its been a whirlwind of a journey joining the company mid season, getting trained in and now working 50 hour weeks. But I love it; The company, the people, the boat, and of course working at sea. Our season only lasts until late Sept though, so Im saving all I can to be able to travel again in the fall.

I remember my years in SE AK. As a 20-something, commercial fishing, running wild... Ketchikan, Juneau, Klawok, Wrangell, Petersburg. Everywhere. We weren't able to film like you do today. So many things are changed now. Thank You for documenting what is there now, what is left...
Don't ever forget. Make notes every day. Journal your days in paradise. When you leave/get older you will forget and not be able to stitch it together correctly.

I love that music. I miss Alaska. My first taste of Alaska was in 1998 when I drove up to Skagway. I road the AK marine highway to Juneau that year to work as a rafting guide in Juneau for Alaska Travel Adventures. I ended up coming back two years later to work for TEMSCO helicopters to work as a guide on the Mendenhall again in Juneau. I'll never forget the sense of atachment I had to the wild and the sense of pure alone I felt in Skagway living out of my truck so far away from everyone I knew. So happy, and so sad to be alone. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.

Suzy Bae Do you feel threatened by men? Of course you do. You just haven't understood that men and woman are different. That doesn't make one better than the other, but just different. Woman have strengths that men don't have and vice versa. Nobody said woman can't work just as hard or harder than a man. Reading your post I sense a lot of anger towards men, that's too bad that you choose to go through life for not simply seeing a person as they are.

I've been to several small towns in my life that made an impact on me like your experiences in backwater Alaska. You're living in the most free state in the Union. Don't lose sight of that. I met a gal just like you in NW Montana in 1991. She was living her dream too. Live long and prosper.

Alaska truly is the last frontier. You will have a great experience and be able to save tons of money as well. You'll find something that really fits your spirit and then 50 hours will seem like play. Ignore the negativity in the comments, those people are just jealous.

Living the dream. Soak it all in and place it in your memory box. Include each smell and color because one day you will have to recall it all, to live it all again. Saying this from a person who has lived in many countries and savored every moment. I know I can never return to what once was. The so called wheel turn and what is considered progress removes wonderful jobs and places as you know them now. Those wonderful memories have gotten me through some very tough times through the years.
You were our guide on the fairy boat from Skagway to Haines in September!! You did an amazing job!! Can’t believe I came across your page haha.

Great video! Your editing and music were seamless and flowing. You remind me of when I graduated from college and had 6 months to wait before my job (Air Force pilot training) began. My brother is a commercial fisherman and he helped me get a job as a deckhand on a purse seigner FV Patty Lynn, out of Ketchikan, AK. It was an adventure I'll never forget and watching your adventure in Skagway really brought back some memories! Thanks!

Can’t believe all the “lonely and depressing” comment. More like serene and simple, enjoying all the truly fine things in life. I just returned to ca from 2 1/2 months in ak . I went up for a job that fell through. I graduated from high school in ak then married a guy in the military. Didn’t realize it would take so long to get back. I’m hoping the natural gas pipeline is a go in spring. If there are any jobs available where you are I’d love to know about them. I’m applying to jobs on aklist now. My brother is a pilot, lives in Wasilla. (Single and good looking) you are so lucky to be living the dream! Please respond if you hear of work. Great decision to live in Alaska! I grew up in Anchorage and now ‘live ‘ in the Bay Area. I took my family to Alaska on a trip which included Skagway. They didn’t want to leave!

I love this vid. I was in Skagway a few years ago. The scenery is beautiful and the city is what most people long for. Laid back and nothing is rushed. I envy you. I wish I would had taken the plunge when I was a young man. I know in my heart I would still be there. If anyone ever gets a chance to visit this city or Alaska,, take it. You won't be disappointed.

No doctor or clinic ?.. What u do in case of emergencies ?
I believe this is only my second comment on youtube ever! Woa! I spent too summers in Skagway as a hiking guide. There is a small clinic with nurses and a physician's assistant. Dentist comes once a month. We have a dedicated fire department (with a brand new station this year) that responses to fire, search and rescue, and emergency medical calls. I am a part of the FD and we participated in training every week. Hope this helps!

That has nothing to do with the above unless you are reading a whole lot more into it. The prescription opoid problem is just now being exposed and is considered epidemic. I follow health and wellness issues and can proudly say that I am on no meds prescription or otherwise but if you go to the Holy Bible Jesus has a lot to say about "drinking". To drink from his "rivers of living waters" is to really live, the essence of life. Try it sometime - it just might put your focus into perspective.

great video. I love Skagway, one of my favourite places in the entire world. I lived in Whitehorse for years, and have been to Skagway more times than I can count. I still go back up there as often as I can, for a fishing holiday. on every trip, I like to do a round-trip drive to Alaska, from Whitehorse up to haines junction, then down to haines, then take the ferry to Skagway, then back to Whitehorse through carcross.
dyea is a must when in Skagway, and hike the chilkoot trail also.
