@@gzimsallahu5593 I haven't played a Volleyball game, but i think the show really captured that feeling. I find him super interesting, yet he's one of the scariest players.
@@phantafan7965 yeah players that can do stuff like that are incredible at reading people and are really hard to play against. i know because i myself can rarely pull stuff like that and it's annoying for the other team.
After watching him I started to implement guess blocking into my game. Not in his level but sometimes I just have a hunch and play with it and it has been working well so far
I don't know if sports use this, bit there's a term in the fighting game community called "Yomi" ("Read" in Japanese). Much like Tendou's guess blocks, it's 50% based on opponent's habits you pick up, but 100% based on your own gut feeling. The split second mind game of feints and decoys, and shutting it all down, be it in sports and fighting games are quite electrifying!
I love how you can see him get more frantic and frustrated yet at the same time more focused. For example, you can see him at 1:50 in the way he confidently and lightly jogs to where he thinks the ball is going to go. Then to 2:09 where hes still confident in his talent and his team’s situation based on the score and still getting correct guess blocks but getting noticeably frustrated about it being hit out. Then 2:37 where you can see his visual anger at the spike getting past him. Finally, at 2:45 near the end of the match we can see him whipping his head around fast and frantically and almost a little panicked at trying to guess where the ball is correctly, the beauty of it is that he isn’t completely panicked or unfocused though. He doesn’t say “I don’t know where it’s going” or anything like that. He says “He’s faking it.” The frantic and fast whipping of his head isn’t panic it’s him getting hyper focused on the game as his reaction time and thinking speed both increase which was shown wonderfully by every movement he makes in the scene. Such amazing progression to watch. But that’s all for my Ted talk.
As far as just pure blocking goes Tendo is likely the best. But as a player I’d take Rintaro, Washio, Kuroo, Hirugami, and maybe Aone. I’d probably take Tendo slightly over Tsukki tho
Spoiler Well if you have read the manga you would know that Suna & Hyakuzawa are pretty much the best MBs in Japan 8-9 years from now as they were selected as the MBs for the national team and got into the final of Olympic 2020.
Woulda loved to watch their match against Aoba Joshai I know they don’t have the defense to stop ushiwaka but wanted to see how Oiwaka navigated the guess blocking
I'm a cashier and i have my own method of telling how much change I'll need to return before i even get handed the money. The earlier it is in the morning or the later it is in the evening, the less time people wanna spend time scrounging for change in wallets/purses so i assume they're giving me a bill instead of coins, and if the total amount of money people owe me ends with 1,2 or 5 i can generally expect change cause people generally prefer round numbers (example if someone's total is 15 and they give me 20, 60% of the time they'll add another 5 so that i return a tenner) if the amount ends with 6, 7, 8, or 9 then i always keep my fingers on the coins in the register cause 80% of the time people don't feel like scrouning their wallets or purses for change and they give me a bill instead. That's why i was surprised and liked tendou as much as i did. I've come up with this prediction method over the course of working at the register for 2-3 years. All i needed was to keep my eyes open and observe people's habits. I'm right 6-7 times out of 10. 8 times out of 10 on good days. But generally 7 out of 10 times.
Let's analyze 0:45. Kageyama has a good receive and therefore full attack options through positions 6, 4, 3 and 2, also taking into account a dump. Tendo guesses 3 correctly (his timing would be messed up for any other attack). That's already has than a 1/5 chance of happening assuming equal distribution of sets, but this is not the case. Most sets go to 4 and 2, lowering even more the chance of an attack through the center. But let's assume equal distribution for the sake of it. He then predicts hinata's direction change, a 50/50. All combined makes the play he predicted well under 10% probability of happening. So in summary, his gamble had around a 95% to fail, but through reading the slight changes in body language of both players for a split second, he chooses the correct option. A monster, indeed.
in episode 3 when his eyes move to where Hinata was aiming, that was terrifying, shows you he doesn't just have good intuition, his reaction time is crazy
Tbh throughout the entirety of the Shiratorizawa match they really gave Shiratorizawa the short end of the stick on a couple of plays where it should’ve been a point, and Karasuno with lucky receives and opponent outs. It was believable that Karasuno won but it kind of felt forced at moments
@@boxingdegenerate9077 honestly i didn't notice scenes like that (i may rewatch the match) but i mainly just felt shiratorizawa was nowhere near the threat it was built up to be
@@norishimogawa6125 I mean they do have the best player in the show and a lot of talent and depth. The only thing with Shiratorizawa is that they play predictably and heavily underestimated Karasuno.
@@boxingdegenerate9077 true, but couldn't you argue that for aoba johsai as well? even then they felt insanely threatening in both of their matches and the victories against them felt so earned.
@@norishimogawa6125 are you saying that Shiratorizawa wasn’t threatening? The only thing with Shiratorizawa is that they were presented differently than how they actually were. They were presented as if they didn’t need Ushijima when they actually relied on him. But that actually makes more sense cause if everyone single one of their players were on a similar skill level to Ushijima, that would be unrealistic and it would make victory impossible for Karasuno But other than that, individually Shiratorizawa is more talented than Aoba Johsai. Better spikers, serving, serve reception, and are a deeper team. Plus they have Ushijima who Aoba Johsai has no way to even contain.

He's just this scary character, that you love to hate in the match as you're on Karasuno's side, but then he's also just pure fun and madness.

Come to think of it... I think you missed the one where he blocks Tanaka and goes "Miracle boy SA-TO-RI"
My bad, I'll have to review the episodes again and try to find it. Thanks for letting me know.
That was not completely a guess block, he knew where will tanaka spike, innit?

If his blocks weren’t good enough, tendou adds so much pressure to a setter which most people don’t notice
Very good video! I've been looking for Tendõs first block against Hinata for a while now.
