100% correct. Food was cool looking but mediocre in taste. It's a tourist trap now
yeahh it's definitely a tourist trap now
They give the Shmucks (aka people who look like assholes) the shit steaks.
She hit it on the head...no salt..no flavor...and definitely my server was under some delusion he was doing me the favor of serving me
@@Bobbbbbh I can’t stand servers. Such an easy job that they make good money from and still have the nerve to complain. They irritate my soul.
Nah we say that so transplants like you stop showing up
They lost their Michelin star I believe
They have
Correct
Indeed
Yup, they did and with good reasoning too considering their food is like “meh” at best.
Although their waiters are rude, I’m thinking behind the scenes, some are saddened with non robotic emotions
This video showed up on my feed literally right after seeing another video of how this restaurant is not worth the money and even lost their Michelin star rating because its quality is not good.
KEENS is far better.
@@imissnewspapers agreed.
man went from 100 to zero in 20 seconds
The reason these places was great, was because of love and dedication in making there food that great. Now it's just the ones who live off the legends until it becomes nothing more then a memory.
It’s like a kitchen nightmares restaurant. It was good before, but slowly turned into mediocre to out right bad because of the lack of effort needed to stay in business now.
now it's just a cash cow for them
10000% correct. Finally someone speaks the truth this place was trash when I went in 2017 and is still trash.
I’ll take dinners that never happened for 1 million
It’s not “trash”. It’s just overpriced.
@drico618 talk about salt Bae overpriced, this one is better and cheaper
Texas Roadhouse better 😂
@@Carminessonoh my god shut up
$17 for a plate of tomatoes and onions is wild lol
Not in NY it’s not
@@Leavypleasyfor billionaires
@@stevenchow408 in top notch restaurants you can easily pay $20 for a salad depending. How much is a salad in a pizza place? $7? Lol
@@Leavypleasy sliced tomato and onion is hardly a traditional salad though. It's basic AF.
@@brettburnside1457 I’ve seen that exact tomato and onion salad at other steakhouses. Steakhouses are expensive, idk what to tell you. I would complain about the $150-$250 steaks at these places before a $17 beefsteak salad. But that’s me
Anthony Bourdain pointed out that some of the worst Cubano sandwiches he’s had are in Miami, which created the recipe and it’s become a culinary icon of the city. But it leads to indifference by the places that sell them, because they know tourists are going to buy whatever they sell either way. Passion is what defines good cuisine.
This is how I feel about the Philly cheesesteak I had in Philadelphia
Tampa created the Cuban sandwich not Miami. Go to West Tampa Sandwich shop in Tampa
I'm so desensitized to pricing now. That place sounded almost as reasonably priced as a Wendy's.
Facts. At this I don’t even blink anymore.
I've eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world. I've eaten at Peter Luger's only once (while attending a seminar out of state). I was on a full expense account so why not splurge? The ambience was awesome; dark English aristocrat club feel, the steak (a filet mignon) was above average and I liked the house sauce. But for me, it was the Seafood Tower that was the standout; maine lobster, rock lobster, king crab, best and largest raw oysters I've ever had and huge prawns. It was incredible. If I ever eat there again I'll skip everything else and get the Seafood Tower!
So.. what they're known for, steak, was above average.
What you loved was something that doesn't require much cooking or skills... Literally raw or boiled seafood.
I am not going there on my own dime.
17 for tomato and onion sinces aka the fool's gold
I went to the one in Great Neck and everything was delicious and the service was impeccable. I took home leftovers and the steak was even better the next day.
Agree. I mean I enjoied morton's steakhouse more. But the great neck one pays more attention to detail. Less of a tourist trap
I’ve eaten at both and have always had a good experience. The food was delicious. I like their creamed spinach and looooooove lamb chops.
Morton’s is good so long as you’re not eating the steak. Apps and desserts were good but steak was amongst the worst I’ve had. Also for all the flack the Brooklyn one is getting, Peter Luger’s great neck location is by far my favorite steakhouse
“ Servers can be sassy” Lmao unbelievable
You're just paying for the name . There is many many steakhouse in the city that better than Peter Luger . Way overpriced
Agreed!!
Give me your top 3
I couldn’t agree more!
$17 for 1 sliced tomato and 1 sliced onion. Enough said.
I thought that was fresh mozzarella! Had to go back and look again. Nasty
Raw too! WTF
Just got shot outside of restaurant😢😮
The Long Island location is still decent
THE FRIES ALONE LOOK TASTY❤
Still better than Salt Bae’s.
Ok true
Cap. The steak there is much better, prices not so much
@@rollericarus why you cappin?
@@dz.7246 I’m not lol. I’ve been to salt bae 8 times around the world and every time the steak has been incredible, some of the best quality I’ve ever had. However, dropping a thousand bucks on a steak dinner for a family of four definitely isn’t feasible, but it is the experience of the table side cutting show that attracts people and makes them believe that they are paying for the unique experience as well as the food, which is total bs considering that a stupid table side show shouldn’t merit sky high inflation. Luger is alright, nothing special, just a good steakhouse, totally a one and done type of place.
It was the place 40 years ago. Much better choices in NYC now
Last time I was there was 2018 and it was amazing. Been to Cut in LA and Peter Lugers was way better. Food and service was top notch.
I’ve been going to peter lugers since i was a kid and you’re actually out of your fucking mind if you think they’re overrated. Well priced huge portion giant pours of scotch and amazing steak
disrespectful to a US MARINE
REMEMBER: YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU ARE SERVING
Be respectful to ALL patrons please!
I cook steaks at home on the grill and save $100.
Bingo. Steak isn't fancy or complicated. The only reason to go to a steakhouse is when you're in a group with picky eaters or allergies and it's the only place you can agree to.
That said, the signature mutton chop at Keen's is supposed to be worth it - but that's a huge chunk of mutton, not something you can find in any grocery store or butcher.
you are better off going to wolfgang steakhouse.. the owner was server in Peter Luger for like 40 years, and they do things very old school..
I've eaten at several locations of lugers and the steak was never lacking salt or flavor, and was always memorably good. the sides and desserts are pretty antiquated and wont blow you away but that's the vibe the place is going for, it's not trying to evolve or adapt to new trends, the focus is all on the beef. the only sides worth ordering are the creamed spinach, onion rings and/or fries and maybe the bacon. it's been a few years since i've been but if it really fell off that's sad because this place was a staple for a reason.
I’m going today it’s a family tradition for us but we haven’t gone in a while due to Covid I’m excited
But then again, can I trust a bunch of young rich kids giving us reviews🤔🤔🤔
My parents went there and basically said the same thing but my dad love steak more than life itself so he still ate a lot of steak
That onion tomato plate you saw is $18 bucks😂
I love Peter Luger their steak is good but their burger is actually very good. I always go by myself so they do walk ins if you come before 3:30 staff from all my experience has been great I never had an issue. Here’s the truth about the reservation the more people the easier you’re able to find available times. The less people you have the harder it is. If you have a minimum of 3 people a party then you can find a table with in minutes that are available. But anything less then 3 it’s very hard unless you do a walking before dinner you should be fine
That's sad because I'm going to NY and I wanted to splurge on at least one dinner any better steakhouses recommendations?
gotta love all of the You Tube food critics.
I remember dining there in the late 90's and mid 2000's with my girlfriend at the time, and both times happened to be among the best experiences I ever had in a steakhouse. Extremely flavorful, incredible service, and was deserving of all the praise it was receiving. Fast forward to 2016.... I couldn't believe I was dining at the same place. The wait staff acted like I was an unwelcomed guest, who crashed a private party, uninvited; and the food went from being delicious, to surprisingly average. I felt incredibly saddened by the drop in quality in both food, and service. I hope the owners can get their heads out of their asses, and bring this institution out of the mediocrity it's currently festering in.
💯👍👍💯
It was once great. Now it just lives off the name. Tourist spot.
Keens steakhouse is our favorite in New York City.
Best mutton in town
The Guild - Calgary, would put all NYC steak houses to shame.
At one time I bet it was a great place! But nothing seems to age well anymore 😢
This steakhouse is incredible. Just went in March of 2023 and was easily an 8.5-9 / 10.
@@timmyboy2495 I’m glad to hear that! I hate when people give places bad ratings publicly. You never know when it’s just a bad day!
Went to the one in Vegas and it is iconic. Best steak I’ve had in years. Aside from the high price no complaints
That place is a solid 1/10
:0
I would've given at least one star in reviews.
If there is no sea salt and cracked black pepper after I asking for it, call that a tip!
I dont ever eat steak at a restaurant. that is one food i would prefer to cook myself.
spoken like someone from the cheap seats buddy
I feel ya. For the price of some of these overrated steaks you can get a slab of A5 wagyu.
I always heard this place was so hard to get into. Like needing reservations a really long time in advance. It’s not like I’d ever have the chance to go to a high fuluten place like Pete’s.
:0
Peter Lugers was good in the 1980-1990’s but since then there are way better places. When I lived in NYC I ate at the one in Brooklyn and it was ok.
hm I thought it wasn't bad! but what other places would u recommend?
Check out our other vids!!
@@sistersnacking smh or just tell us

"But lacks salt and flavor" it what killed my whole vibe.
Because they don’t cover it in salt!!! 🤣 How did the beef taste? That’s the real question.
They do have amazing steak sauce, though. We get it here in Florida at Publix and it's SO good.
Not sure what part of Florida you live in, but if close to Tampa....you have to go to Bern's Steakhouse! Absolutely delicious, service is impeccable and the dessert room after dinner.... amazing! Highly recommend!

@WineSaladFrenchFries I was born and raised in Pinellas and we actually prefer Harold Seltzer's over here in Tyrone to Berns. It's just as amazing for half the cost!
They need to add to things, seasoning and more fire 🔥
for sure!
well them folks havent mastered seasoning quite yet
goto sparks steak house
I watched the
video on how they cook the steakI'm more wood charcoal biased for flames. Cast iron pan can be awesome too! It looks very consistent in the meat cuts though
Love you’re honest about Luger.
We add salt to taste tho- yes?
I had the opportunity to try it. It was definitely good but not what its hyped up to be. House of Prime Rib in San Francisco is much better
Wait.... Please describe the caraway roll in the bread basket. In the late sixties I used to get something called a "salt stick" like a hot dog roll shaped bagel with salt and caraway on top. I put butter and temp tee cream cheese and was heaven. I haven't seen it since except now. That looks like a Salt stick!
They do have a roll with salt. It used to be one of my faves except now I’m low sodium. 🤷♀️
Oh really? A steak house that doesn't salt the shit out of all their food? I'm interested! Too bad I can't afford to eat there.
I’m curious then what steak houses in NYC you guys have tried that blew you away.
"Smell like wax and sour walkin out of peter luger. Streets consumed us. Lil homie loves to grip his ruger. He 17 but he been a shooter like dennis shröder"🤖🤖🤖
Just had it. Very tasty but expensive af.
:0
I closed that restaurant on a Monday having arm wrestling contest with my dad and brother.
The waiters were placing bets on us 😂
At last someone says it. Their burger was amazing but the steak was chewy and tough. Service wasn’t a problem (that’s more a problem for young people not used to bluntness). Not worth the trip if you’re in the city for a short vacation.
One of the best burgers I've ever had, though! $19 and its actually amazing. Better steaks are within walking distance, though. You have St.Anslem not far and the steaks incredible, has a better vibe in my opinion, and its not overpriced.
I love keens steakhouse the best. Expensive but so good.
Love Keens!
Keens is awesome! There is no true substance to Luger's anymore
Lost me at the snooty waiters. Nothing is a bigger turnoff as a patron.
Remember to think for urself people
Every oerson who goes there says theyre so rude....unbelievable how they dont care.....most NYers see it as a tourist trap
Bam! Honest review !
Very much agree. Worst part is their poor service - beginning from the moment you walk in to the overcrowded waiting area at the entrance and them loosing track of who’s there and who isn’t because they have no actual system. Not worth the money!
For the price I'm glad we missed out on Peter Lugars...I'll try Benjamin's next time up there
It looks like like you went back in time to Ponderosa.
How they get a Michelin star?
I went there last year. The steak I had had a lot of fat on it a lot. I didn't care for it. The best steak that I've ever had in New York City is from the strip house. 2 blocks away from grand Central.
In the last few years the quality has certainly dropped.
I love Peter Luger - maybe just a bad day? Try it again! Try their burgers and other steak options
:0
Maestros is better, and while it is still very expensive, it is slightly more affordable and definitely more flavorful.
Skip the porterhouse and get the lamb porterhouse.
It was very good back in the early 80s. Well, not everything lasts.
A restaurant can be both iconic and overrated.
Best part of Peter Lugers is the sauce. No steak sauce anywhere competes. The nyc is average now but the Long Island one is a weekly favorite
I’ll have to try it. A1 is so good I can’t imagine a steak sauce being better than the classic.
@@alimctaven7417 im telling you once you have the steak sauce. no going back. you can pick it up at most grocery stores
@@Maxx995 I’ll have to look for it. I have a nice bone in strip in my fridge. Would it be at Walmart?
@@alimctaven7417 It might be found in the meat dept near the steaks (along with their delicious creamed spinach :)) I don’t know if it’d be at Walmart since there isn’t a Walmart in NYC.
I'm going to the Vegas one I'm sure it will be good .
We went back in April for the burger but they don’t serve it past a certain time. It was not good at all, the bread was stale, the food was mediocre. I was so disappointed! 👎🏾
Tomato looked like from Tesco and not from Michelin star restaurant
It was my mom and dad’s 50th wedding anniversary. We had an 8pm reservation we were not seated until 10pm, this is so they can make money off of us at the bar. I’d rather go to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse or Mark Joseph or the Chart House
Best steak I ever had ... 20 years ago. As of 5 years ago, nope. Even the bacon appetizer wasn't the amazing thing it used to be ... and it was Amazing back then.
Loved it over a decade ago ‼️
These ladies are honest they're going viral
Thank you!
Doesn't even know they they lost the star, yet calls herself a reviewer
“Lacks flavor” perfect description. They don’t use pepper and it shows.
I'm about the pickiest steak eater there is. I thought their food was really good but closer to a Texas Roadhouse than a top shelf restaurant. It was good, actually really good but seemed to be about 35% over priced (Especially the sides).
Me and my wife's bill was over $200! For the same price I've eaten at a few places that blow it outta the water.
Very cool atmosphere though. Kinda feels like your paying more for the "experience" of eating there vs the food
I appreciate your honesty!
Always!
I ate there a really remember it as one of my best nights out for dinner
If I’m tipping close to or over $100 I don’t want sassy
hahahah
What other staek house are you recommending then??
Keens.. Ruth Chris.. Christos in Queens.. to name a few lol
Applebees
Norm's
keen's is way better and we love 4 charles prime rib

Who would be the number one steakhouse in NYC? Ruth Chris?.
I think it's all on Opinion. I went to a lot of steak houses in New York, and Peter Luger is my favorite
yes, and the consensus opinion here is that you got scammed
@@timothy1949 your opinion that's the point lol I disagree that's all
Onions for $17 is overrated and everybody has the same cuts. Your paying for the ambience
If you’re gonna spend that kind of money go to Keens
Okay but how do they hold onto their Michelin star? Or is it, once you get it, it’s there forever?
They lost it
They lost their Michelin star a few months ago
