Hi Johnny. I'm just here to thank you for the videos you've released so far. They've really helped me understand all the technical aspects. Thanks to you, I can create materials much faster than I used to. Thank you!
Just canceled my artstation pro membership to sub to the 2k tier on your patreon. Your videos have been extremely helpful in not just showing how to get results, but how to think about the concepts inside designer and that is very hard to come by in online tutorials. Thanks Johnny!
This means alot! I definitely identify with the frustration of learning something by having someone just show me what they did instead of how the parts work!
So happy to have you back! I also like using the Histogram Select to grab the lowest parts of a height map to add grime, water level, etc - I tend to use the Curvature to grab the highest parts and would used to invert that same result for the lows, but I find that Histogram Select saves me an extra node 👀
Interesting, I usually use Scan for that! I've used curvature for similar, sometimes the issue is that curvature isn't giving you the depth as much as the areas with the most concavity (not always the same!)
So glad you're back to making videos! The way you teach just clicks for me. Do you have any plans on ever doing a video on Paths and Splines? Would love that (as well as the long awaited ultimate Node tier list 👀)
Good to see you back finally!, hope you can make some tutorials on fx maps and pixel processors , not many good tutorials covering those, thanks for being back!
Also please try to make simple animated materials aswell, how they can be used, even if only simple materials doesnt have to be exactly like the video you posted two years ago, just so we get hang of the basics u use there, Im new to Substance but cant wait to learn it like this honestly 😁😁
Could you do a tutorial doing one material step by step or could you show us how you animate your materials like the one that you made with skulls, it will be great . Thank you for all the videos that you made :)
Why doesn't your recording program capture pop-up menus like when selecting a blend mode from the blend node or when you press space or tab to bring up the node selection menu? The video is still perfectly enjoyable and understandable but still.
11:40 OMG, such disrespect for the invert grayscale node! 😂 You realize of course it's a much cheaper operation than a levels. Right? It's just 1 - x. The levels node does a fuckton of other things especially with the middle gray slider. If you wanna keep the graph speedy use cheaper nodes like Invert and Threshold.
WE ARE SO BACK

Its much cheaper in the same way that 1cent is cheaper than 3cents
