Well more like their old home, turtles unlike hermit crabs cannot swap shells, so that shell was going to be meaningless unless they used it as decoration or a hide for a animal like a snake or something, in this case it was a toughness experiment.

I never knew that shells are available for buying. They are so important for the turtle's life. I fail to understand why would someone take it away from them.
Probably that belonged to a Florida red eared slider that died of age judging from the size EDIT: Wow. I'm a proud father of two red eared sliders and they get HUGE. Some people say the have no feelings but i advanced from getting bitten by one of them to be able to hand feed them
@@joshuaborner I don't think a turtle got murdered just for its shell, it probably died of natural causes and the shell was kept and sold, just like how bones of other animals, even of humans are sometimes kept, generally either for display or scientific purposes
You notice that he really had to work at it on that one. Tells me that the shell basically won on its own due to the way it evolved as a means of protection for the animal. A turtle/tortoise can owe its longevity to the fact that they have such protection from predators.
I mean it’s really just because the area of the machine that crushes is so small. The jaws of a predator tend to be far larger. And the machine still shredded through it easily.
It's really interesting how it's largely a combination of its hardness and roundness that makes it so resilient to the shredder, and not just one or the other.

Turtle shells are cool as hell, the design of them is so intelligent, the contours combined with the hardness make it hard for teeth to grip and crush. Kind of obvious to state but it’s just really cool sometimes to see it in action like this

As a owner of a turtle, I find this bizarre, glad it’s just a empty shell! Otherwise I would have reported the video! 😂 My story: I lost my baby turtle when I was 5, so my mum got two new ones then when school finished, my mum told me she found the missing turtle, so there’s 3 turtles and they became best friends, now the turtles are big now.
I had a nightmare about a shredder like this. I was locked in a box with a locked reinforced glass door and the shredder as the bottom. I use my arms and legs to stay above the shredder, begging pleading to my captors (of which I never saw) to let me go, but alas I had to eventually concede and fell into the shredder. Obviously didn’t hurt because it was a nightmare but it’s was one of those pains you could feel by looking at it, like ripping off skin on a finger. I woke up very startled.
Even though the shredder won it had a hard time and help to do so. Much like the axe. The turtle shell design is so well done it makes for some of the best protection nature can provide.
Thank you for having good intentions to spreading awareness of treating animals with respect but something I believe a lot of people working with equipment should or have learned is never to put anything like animals near it wether it is on or off

Something about shredding a turtle shell bothers me a bit. Obviously it's not being used... but it feels like that shell was that tortoise's legacy, and it's beautiful. I figure it's no different from shredding a deer mount. If you want to throw it away, throw it away... but desecrating what's left of a living thing just feels wrong to me.

You notice that he really had to work at it on that one. Tells me that the shell basically won on its own due to the way it evolved as a means of protection for the animal. A turtle/tortoise can owe its longevity to the fact that they have such protection from predators.
I mean it’s really just because the area of the machine that crushes is so small. The jaws of a predator tend to be far larger. And the machine still shredded through it easily.

It's really interesting how it's largely a combination of its hardness and roundness that makes it so resilient to the shredder, and not just one or the other.

I had a nightmare about a shredder like this. I was locked in a box with a locked reinforced glass door and the shredder as the bottom. I use my arms and legs to stay above the shredder, begging pleading to my captors (of which I never saw) to let me go, but alas I had to eventually concede and fell into the shredder. Obviously didn’t hurt because it was a nightmare but it’s was one of those pains you could feel by looking at it, like ripping off skin on a finger. I woke up very startled.

Not gonna lie, I skipped to the turtle part to make sure you didn’t murder a turtle.
Something about shredding a turtle shell bothers me a bit. Obviously it's not being used... but it feels like that shell was that tortoise's legacy, and it's beautiful. I figure it's no different from shredding a deer mount. If you want to throw it away, throw it away... but desecrating what's left of a living thing just feels wrong to me.

@gloveses currently their is think tank solely dedicated to that very question. Like I said, so little is known of the shredder. We're just beginning to scratch the surface. Theirs a national geographic special as well as Vice special about the shredder. I think that covers everything for the time being. It's not ideal but thats a problem for the think tank.

It's not so much that the turtle shell is so strong, it's that its shape prevents the shredder from easily getting a bite. Once the plastron (belly shell) broke, that changed everything.
