    3:41 Actually, X-Pro1 had a 16MP sensor. Fuji's older X100 (original) camera had a 12MP sensor, but it was a regular Bayer pattern sensor, not an X-trans.
    8:42 Have you tried switching "RELEASE/FOCUS PRIORITY" in "AF MF" menu to "FOCUS" instead of "RELEASE”? If you haven't done that already, it may improve focus accuracy.

    Thanks for sharing. Great photos and a good discussion on the X-Pro 1 vs the 3. I shoot Lumix myself but recommended the X-Pro 1 to my wife back in the day when it first came out (she was still shooting film back then). I adore the colors out of that early sensor, and I love the shutter sound too. Jan.

    agree the x-pro 1 is still a very capable camera in 2021, I have the XH-1 and love it but I always drop back onto my Pro-1, i take my time with her and slow myself down and always seem to get amazing results, there is no doubt its was horrible before the firmware upgrade and I use it with the 60mm Macros original lens which delivers for me, its all subjective, just enjoy shooting. Go well

    Presumably you have discovered the colour chrome effect setting under the IQ menu? When I first shot the X Pro3 I was a bit disappointed by the colours compared to my old X T1, but setting the colour chrome effect to strong sorted the jpeg's for me. Much better colours, especially the reds. For colour work I uses mostly Provia with colour chrome effect on strong, works for me!

    Do you think Fujifilm can fix some of these "negatives", such as the focus speed, with firmware updates? You'd think by now they would have addressed the issues you have identified. Note, I own the XPro-3. I'm a Fujifilm fan, but from what I've read no Fujifilm camera competes in focus speed with Sony's offerings. I've owned Sony also. PS. You got a great deal on the Dura coating!

    • @Gmakamian
      @Gmakamian  3 года назад +4

      Thanks Bill, loving the dura silver I must say! I definitely think Fuji can fix focus speed and accuracy with firmware updates. I think in today's technology it's all about algorithms. The phase detect system on the xpro3 is fantastic, I just think their algorithm is not up to date with sony and canon. I still do love my Sony and use it for work because it just delivers, and I also love the FF look. But prefer using my xpro3 for sure. Sony being an innovative technology company has access to things that Fuji doesn't like phones, playstation etc. But Fuji has a richer history with cameras, so they get a lot of things right that Sony doesn't in my opinion.

    The XPro3 is amazing and the video is great. With that said, I’m getting tired of reviews that keep discussing video. If you want a camera for video than get a one. The majority of people that own this camera use it for photography.

    Thought provoking video. I think everyone develops their own way of shooting with the X-Pro cameras. I don't use the screen on my X-Pro1 except if I'm trawling through the menu. I'm also leaning more towards manual focus using third party or 'vintage' lenses. The Fuji lenses I have are fantastic and I love the results they produce, but they don't improve the experience of creating the image in the way that a manual focus lens does. Just my personal opinions.... On my X-T20 I use the AF all the time unless 'forced' to manually focus....

    • @Gmakamian

      Hi Stevie. I’m very curious to try old manual lenses as I understand the feeling of creating something and working to achieve your goal. I might look into it, though right now I am really craving for a wider lens, a 24 or 28 equivalent. Any recommendations for a vintage wide?

      @@Gmakamian Hey Greg. I've given up thinking about vintage for the wide end of things. The crop factor is against us. There is probably some lovely Leica glass but it would always be out of my budget anyway. I'm looking at maybe a TTarisans 17mm or Laowa 15mm. Something along those lines....

    I’d love your thoughts on something.
    I’m a professional headshots and portrait shooter, studio and natural light. I have an XT3 and a x100V, and I’ve fallen in love with the rangefinder style of the X100. So much so that I’m considering selling the XT3 to get the XPRO3. I’d love your thoughts on that. I actually love the idea of the “hidden” LCD, and I love the connection with my subject when I look through a rangefinder style camera. It’s just intimate and I feel the camera get out of the way. It feels good.
    I should mention that I have no problem with the XT3, it’s great and reminds me of the old Nikon FE that I trained on as a teen. I just feel a deep connection to rangefinder style. I trained on film, shooting since I was 13. I’m 51 and feel like the XPRO is calling to me, but unsure how it is for portraits. Would you feel confident to have the XPRO as a main portrait and studio camera? I also very occasionally shoot family portraits, engagement sessions and the very occasional small wedding. My work is all about people and human connection to clients.
    Thanks for any thoughts! I trust your expertise.

    • @Gmakamian
      @Gmakamian  2 года назад

      Hi Donavan. If we are strictly talking about photography, there is nothing that the XT3 can do that the Xpro3 can't. Although I recently sold my Xpro3, I would 100% recommend the camera if you enjoy the rangefinder style. And yes, there is something special about holding the xpro line (whether that's the looks of the camera or the way it feels). I definitely would say go for the Xpro3.
      The reason I sold my Xpro3 is because I have no problem shooting my Xpro1. Yes it's much slower and the EVF sucks, but that doesn't bother me for what I use the camera for, and it makes 0 financial sense to have the Xpro1, Xpro3 plus a Sony alpha system.

      Hi Matthew, thank you for your compliments. I'm very particular when it comes to color, and any camera can produce great colors once edited. My complaint was more of the SOOC colors. The Xpro1 auto-WB and how it renders colors to me is far superior than any of the modern fujis. I also find editing the files much easier to get them where I want. Again, if you're editing and spending time on working the files, then there shouldn't be any major issues. I have the same complaints with my Sony system, where the colors are not that nice straight out of the camera. Hope that helps!

    Nice comparison! Just throwing out there that your XPro1 also has dual magnification. I use this feature all of the time when shooting with my manual M-mount lenses. You just have to hold the EVF/OVF lever to the side for a few seconds when on OVF mode and it'll switch.
    The camera also does this automatically when you mount specific X-mount lenses to maximize your field of view. I think this is the feature you are alluding to with the that the Xpro3 omitted.

    The x-pro 1 and other cameras of the x-trans 1 and 2 generation has a jpg - rendering which is more punchy in the contrast and clarity. If you give the blacks +1 or +2 it will look more like the older cameras and a little contrast helps with the sharpness as well. If you have a little patience you will get much closer in general.
    But don´t touch the clarity option. It will create that stupid black-out after a photo.

    At night there is an improvement with focus acquisition but only in low light conditions. I still use the x pro2 at night because the street/shop lights provide plenty of light for the f2 focus acquisition

    Great video, Greg. I've been shooting film almost exclusively (35mm and medium format) for over 8 years. At the same time I always had Nikon digital cameras as well but I never liked the photos as much as I liked the film photos I took, I always felt they were an ok "plan b" cameras. Lately I've been so occupied with my work that developing and scanning film became a painful task so I started to look for digital options, just for the sake of saving time. I immediately felt in love with the XPRO line and finally bought a black XPRO 3. I've been shooting with it for 3 months now and I absolutely love it and I regret not buying it before. Coming from film, for me using this camera it is like an "upgraded" experience... it's fun, quick, the quality of the camera and photos is outstanding and the "feel" you get out from this sensor is film-like. Compared to the Nikon's I own in the past, this camera's noise is grain-like and even shooting with a very high ISO they render noise in a much pleasant way. This camera easily is one of the best I ever owned and, a great benefit as well, is that I am able not only to use the magnificent Fuji glass I own, I also use some Nikon lenses that renders amazingly well on this camera. Also, manual focus on these + the focus peaking option makes it super fun and fast to use. I absolutely love this camera.

    Hi Greg, your video about the Xpro1 last year was one of the reasons I bought one! Love it. Got it with the 18/2 on it, but I am a 50mm shooter from film days so I am getting one of the 35mm XF lenses. Leaning towards the newer f2 due to that bit faster AF and near silent operation. The older 1.4 does seem very noisy and quite slow on the XPro1. Do you like it on your XPro1?
    Btw the XPro1 also has the 2 magnifications in the OVF, same as the XPro2.
    I was also thinking about the Xpro3 before buying the XPro1, but couldn‘t justify the price. And as a shooter who doesn’t need super fast AF and huge menu options I couldn‘t see much benefit in the XPro3. So far glad I opted for the XP1. Somehow it doesn‘t feel like a tool rather a good old compagnon sharing a journey with. I like that feeling a lot.

    Thanks for sharing this video. I thought it was very honest and made a lot of good points. I currently own an xt-1 and an xt2. I still keep thinking about the xpro3. I do like the rangefinder aesthetic. However, there were a few things that kept me from trading in my xt2 for the xpro3. I find with my xt-1 that the white balance is quite accurate as well. And I do enjoy the warmer jpegs that you get with the xt-1 and the xt2 as compared to the xt3 and the xpro3. I wonder what you might have thought had you got an X pro2 instead. Color is amazing on the xp3 and simulations are the best of any camera. Menu, exp comp dial, EVF/OVF are vastly improved, etc..It's great folks are attached to the older models, but to say they perform better than the xp3 is just wishful thinking. Auto focus is hands down better than the other two cameras.
