    Excellent 'solution'. I used to use the liquid version of Lanoline with IPA, but now I can use the much cheaper solid version as well. Thank you for this awesome video!

    I used to make my own too, from liquid lanolin and 99% isopropyl alcohol [8 parts ISO and 1 part lanolin]. I love that it's really inexpensive but, it leaves a gummy film on the cases that, after being loaded, must be cleaned off. Also, you cannot make a large batch of it as it will 'go bad' and get funky, unusable pretty quickly.
    Yesterday I bought a bottle of Lyman Quick Slick. I'd never heard of it before but I like Lyman products, so... This stuff is incredible. It goes a long way too! I used 5 drops for 1,000 9mm cases and could have used less... perhaps 3 drops. Once dry and loaded, the cases have a super slick, incredible lubricity to them [aiding greatly in chambering and extraction] but, there's nothing to rub off or to clean off. Personally, I'm sold!
    Sorry to go "against" the advice of the video but, when I find something awesome, I pass it along.

      The way I use it is different than the label's instructions...
      I put a few drops of lube into a Tupperware type container, [mine is
      12" x 6" x 5" tall] and smear it around the bottom with my fingers. Then when there is a thin 'film' on the bottom, I dump in my cases [500 9mm] put the lid on and shake and roll them around until they are all coated... perhaps 60 seconds.
      This way I'm guaranteed that none of the lube gets sprayed into the inner case, as per the directions on the label. It also uses less lube, extending the amount of cases you can lube with 1 bottle.
      My 9mm full length sizing die has a carbide insert. So, you will want more lube on the cases if using a steel die.
      Cheers!

      Better to use paraffin or baby oil or mineral oil (all three is the same). Doesnt leave residue.

    Lanolin works and it's difficult to remove from the cases. Try the Lee case lube you showed us in this video mixed with 10 parts alcohol in a spray bottle. Lee recommends this in his manual. I tried it and it works great.

    What ruins the ability of the public to purchase goods in the EU is the excessively high VAT that is added to the cost of goods. What has me floored is that they even tax food items that we buy in a grocery store, something that is considered a sin in many places. In the USA where I lived there was NO tax on food bought in a supermarket. Everything else was at 7.25% tax rate. Also customs taxes are an issue, this tax is to protect a countries manufacturers but if no one produces a case lube in your country then technically they have no right to tax the item since there is no company to protect.
    Love the DIY videos!

    I've been using a similar recipe for a bit over a year now. I went 1:12 ratio with solid lanolin to 99% alcohol, but I think you could dilute it even more so. It's better than any liquid factory lube I've tried, and you really do not need very much of it. My only problem with it is that I keep my reloading gear in the garage where it gets cool, and the lanolin precipitates back out of the solution. I warm it back up with a water bath on a hot plate and it's good to go!
    I take an old beaten up beach towel and dump my loaded ammo on it and roll the cases around a bit and all of the lube is gone.

      +nominalvelocity Thanks for the advice with the towel...will give it a try. Greetings Markus

      +nominalvelocity Don't you have to wash the inside of the cases to get the lanolin out?

    • @nominalvelocity
      @nominalvelocity 8 лет назад +1

      Sorry for not getting back to you, but no need to wash the cases out, it's surprising how little of the lanolin it takes to do the job. I lay mine in an old rubbermaid plastic tub, shoot a couple squirts in and cover, and shake to disperse the lube. It actually works pretty well with the dillon powder through die or expander ball as the case may be, as the few cases which do get a misting inside the neck seem to lubricate the end of the powder die/expander, making it easy to pull out of the case. Powder doesn't seem to stick to the quantity of lube I use.

      You are most welcome! I have not attempted to make case lube. I bought some "Dillon case lube" that is sold in an eight ounce or so bottle. I lay my cases flat out in rows on newspaper (case mouths facing away from me) then I just spritz a little bit of lube on the cases. Then I give them a little half turn roll and spritz them again. I have never gotten a "lube induced" dent in any of my brass so far!

  • @roquri
    @roquri 8 лет назад

    I have also done this using the lee case lube and alcohol. Works good for so far for 308 and smaller cases, but you need to tumble the brass afterwards to get the wax off. Lanolin works better, but I had several tubes of the lee, and I hate throwing anything away! One note of caution, do not try to use the lee concoction with a 50 BMG. It's not nearly slick enough.

    I have 2 bottles of lube. one bottle for rifle cartridges and one for progressive pistol loading. The one for my pistol cases is 12 to 1 liquid lanolin and Iso-Heat I noticed after wet tumbling my brass I got it so clean I was transferring brass to my Dillon powder through expander during loading. After I lube the cases I sit my batch under a heat lamp while I set my station up and when I'm set up the cases are ready to be processed.

    This looks very good, the only problem that I can see is that by using a spray bottle, the nozzle could become blocked when the IPA evaporates , I have never used the spray type case lube, just the Imperial wax, do you get dents in your cases by over lubing with the spray.

    • @wiederladerTv
      @wiederladerTv  8 лет назад

      +Englishman French I don't think that this will happen so fast. The Hornady bottle I have shown in the video is 3 years old and it still works. I do not get dents with this lube....and by the way if I have to size a small amount of brass only I use Imperial wax also but for my regular amounts I choose the homemade lube.

    • @453421abcdefg12345
      @453421abcdefg12345 8 лет назад

      +wiederladerTv : Many thanks for the info, lube dents are really annoying, I know they blow out, but I would rather not have them in the first place, I am sure the evaporation would only be a problem if the spray is left for some while.

  • @Subgunman
    @Subgunman 6 лет назад

    I forgot to ask, what would happen if you were to place this mixture in the bottle in your ultrasonic cleaner with hot water??? I would think one would have a better mixture since the ultrasonics will help break down the lanolin better.

    • @killman1971

      Vaseline is actually a poor case lube. The confusion comes from the fact that many old timers did use Vaseline in their home made case lube in the mid 20th century. This comes from the formula of hair care products used by African-Americans at the time but the real lubricant was lanolin with petroleum jelly being a filler.
      I have used castor oil mixed in equal parts with lanolin then added to isopropanol alcohol about 1:10 with good results. Castor oil is much cheaper, easier to find, and a better lubricant but can gum up and varnish unlike lanolin so cleaning of dies and prompt cleaning of cases via tumbling is needed.

  • @Draevideo

      When I clean them in the wet tumbler I remove the old primer first but not when I use the regular dry media tumbler.

      what is the reason for that??

    • @ericdepreter

      if you remove the primer when using the dry media tumbler you'll find little pieces stuck in the primer opening.

    • @Subgunman
      @Subgunman 6 лет назад

      I have used Midway brass tumbler basket after polishing brass in vibratory polisher. Brass is locked in a basket that has slots big enough for media to fall out. The subsequent action shakes out media even from primer pockets.
