INFO:
Vocals were recorded by Katia Iva using a Shure beta58, through an Edirol UA25EX preamp/interface. Katia's video background texture by freaky665.deviantart.com.
Keyboards were recorded through line-in (onboard A/D) using Korg TR sounds, N364 is being used as controller.
Guitars were recorded by Simon Besozzi using an Agile Interceptor Pro 727 with EMG pickups for the rythm lines and an Ibanez RG350DX-WH with Dimarzio & Seymour Duncan pickups for the solo/s, both recorded through an M-Audio Mobile Pre preamp/interface, effects were generated through Amplitube 3. We have two guitar videos going on by the simple fact that we also have two rythm guitar lines - mix decision.
Bass was recorded by Eivind Lystad using a Morgan bass through onboard A/D.
Violins were recorded by Kim Schiavo using a Nhureson with Infeld Blue strings, using a pair of CAD GLX1200 microphones. Doubled violin videos for the same reason of guitars.
Choir was recorded with an M-Audio MicroTrack II.
Drums were programmed by me using Superior Drummer 2.
Orchestra was arranged and mixed by me as well using the following sample libraries:

why whithout drummer?

A for effort. Visual editing was well done, the musical editing wasn't however. The drums were hardly audible, and the balance is a bit lost in the mix between the other instruments. That singer, while having a nice voice really should articulate way more and it sounds a bit static. No dynamics.
I agree, the musical editing/mixing could be a lot better
yea the violin could be better but I must say this is the best collaboration cover I've ever seen, actually I think this is the closest you guys can get to the original if you are not nightwish, excellent job!!

This is total bad-a. My hat off to you all. The violin squeaks too much for my taste and the choir is pretty pitchy, but otherwise it sounds super solid. The instrumental balance is really different from the original too. One of my favorites from Nightwish, so I was afraid it would be butchered, but I can tell how much hard work and dedication you put into this. Covering a Nightwish song is probably one of the hardest tasks you could ever take on and I think you did it really well. Good job!

suggestions:
- plug violin in
- where's the drums?
- more custom rhythms to cover the more complicated areas (also adds freshness to the song) People are more likely to return/listen to a flowing rhythm that's been tastefully modified rather than a slightly out of tune one.

I give it a 9 out of 10. 8 for the video overall and 9 for orchestrating such a big project.
still a half note is not so complicated to pitch, nevermind... ah, man... it so ruined the whole stuff.. i see the work behind the video, and efforts and all, but really, those few notes hurt my ear so bad...

@Flyboyuk40 grrr pressed send too soon. personally I love the singer and i disagree with the comments about the violins as I think they add colour and an almost 'live' feel to the piece. i would have loved to have seen more of the keyboard parts shown but there's only so much room on the screen. great job!

Dude is is so great seriously! But one question, if you put this much effort into such a great production, couldn't you just look for a real drummer? That would've finished the product in my opinion.

Hey ! You did a really great project and i bet you did a lot of work, so congrats !
However, the violin (on the speed notes) and choirs get sometimes out of tune and i would say to the singer that when the song able to be a bit mad or needs power, put all you can give ;) These few things are missing to do of this cover, a perfect one (objective comments lead to improvements). Go on guys and girl :)
Nice cover, but i heard the original instrumental score through, which you used as a backig track. We're going to try a simpler version of this two weeks from now live in a club, we will only use 4 female choir voices and the lead, plus only me on my single keyboard, but it sounds nice though, we have an amazing drummer and stuff. We hope it gets out good, we discussed using the backing score, but we decided it will be a greater achivement if it sounds good with only us being live:)
And yes please, I'd love to hear your covers of Within Temptation (if you plan on any soon)! x) Their music is epic and I'm sure you'll do them wonderfully as well!
I was planning of making a cover of this too. There's parts (mostly) of your tutorial, and then parts from the Once songbook, and parts I figured out myself.

This is my favorite band of all time, and possibly my favorite song by them. From a fellow music producer myself, I think the drum mix should be a little more wet and spacious. Awesome cover though.

Very nice! The only thing is that the singer's voice, despite the (OMG) PERFECT technique, seems to lack a little bit of brightness, so that the instruments overcome her voice

Está muy bien, hubo mucho trabajo ahí. Pero la mezcla es algo sucia, nada fácil con tantos instrumentos, especialmente con la percusión.
