I use a slightly different naming convention. I want the computer to automatically, chronologically sort my photos. To do this, I use this convention: "YYYY-MM-DD descriptive text" I have also created directories for each of my family branches and sub-branches. If I don't have a date, I use "undated" as the prefix. Using the date prefix makes it extremely easy to know that I have *all* the photos available when I'm creating my scrapbook pages (in chronological order .. that makes my brain happy!). Thank you for making this video ... it's good for me to review all this points every so often. Over time I become complacent and forget details, so your video brings it back. :-)

Excellent information. For anyone who hasn't done this before or for younger people on their first computer you must assume your computer is temporary storage because it WILL fail and everything you have will be lost unless you can go through an expensive recovery process. Backup as the video recommends - minimum 3 sites. Access regularly so you know everything is working.

    Jenny,
Your presentation was very helpful. I have watched it three times and learnt something each time. Much appreciated.

I totally agree. I've been using "rename" to add details to scanned photographs. Such a relief to know I can correct the date & tag those scans to add vital details. Much appreciated!

Great information - though I don't agree about the sheet feed scanners. To protect photos or papers that you need to scan you use a carrier sheet. My favorite is the Epson ff-680 Fast Foto.
I guess it all depends on how many you have to scan. A flatbed is fine if you have a handful of images to scan. But when you are in the upwards of 100+ then you need to look for more options like a feed scanner.
