Arielle is destined to play this role(at some point, not originate) if/when it comes to Broadway. She provides the sincerity, the wisdom, and joy needed to play Pocahontas. And don't even get me started on her vocals. SENSATIONAL! :)
i would agree but for all it's worth i would prefer a native american actress to at least originate the role. as a filipino who adores arielle jacobs, this story and its anti-indigenous connotations are for native americans to reclaim and no one else's.
esotericposterior Agreed. The role of Pocahontas basically NEEDS to be played by a native actress if it's to be taken seriously, as the original film was accused of insensitivity. A Broadway adaptation of "Pocahontas" could be great, though, based on the wonderful soundtrack alone.
wasnt the woman who played the original role of pocahontas native american?
LadyLal no, she was white :/
Sorry I thought the person was referring to the speaking voice--who is a Native American actress. You're right Judy Khun is white.
She's the perfect choice! and since her brother is Aladdin and knows Alan Menken she stands a pretty good chance.
She was also Jasmine in the Australian production...
She has really excellent diction
That's exactly what I was thinking, and in her cover of just around the riverbend, her diction is fucking amazing
Amazing performance! And the song is one of Alan Menken's best. Pocahontas really needs a stage adaptation!
perfect Pocahontas and freaking Moana. God my ears are just in heaven
I always love when people do this song. It's beautiful and remains topical and I wish Pocahontas was included more often, but if there really was a stage adaptation or live action movie of the story 1) I really wish the part would be played by a Native actress and 2) The story really is not historically accurate, but we Natives take any positive representation we can get.
Not to sound ungrateful but you shouldn't have been so nice. Just knowing the real history makes me angry, bitter, repulsed and frankly depressed. I apologize for everything we have put your people through.
I hope if they put out a live-action adaptation that it's not trash like all the rest. The actors could be Zimbabwean for all I care...
I hate hate hate it when people claps before the song is finished....HONESTLY, GUYS! JUST A FEW MORE SECONDS!
She's awesome by the way
And now she's a Disney princess! Jasmine in the Australian production of Aladdin.
That's funny because her brother is Aladdin!
+Himani Yadav Her and her brother did a reveal video for their parents to share the news which was cool to watch!
Her placement is so beautiful
So, I cried.

Chills
This has been my favorite Disney song since age 7 or 8
Beautifully done! Totally respect the direction she took this! Though, I do personally enjoy the softness brought to some parts (especially the ending on the word paint) in the original. The belting here is powerful, but I think there’s so much meaning in bringing softer dynamics to some phrases. The last line i think carries more meaning that way, but everyone interprets things differently!
👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤

You think I'm an ignorant savage
And you've been so many places
I guess it must be so
But still I cannot see
If the savage one is me
How can there be so much that you don't know
You don't know
You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew
Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind
Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun sweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth
The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends
How high will the sycamore grow
If you cut it down, then you'll never know
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind
You can own the Earth and still
All you'll own is Earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind
I will feel offended if they do not cast her when/if they ever put Pocahontas on Broadway! and I'm sure I'm not the only one!?
