I agree, large crowds are much better. The hardest is speaking to a camera by yourself in a room for a video. There is no audience to interact with or get energy from.

As a meeting planner for a Fortune 200 company, I've sourced/hired many keynote speakers over the years. We were honored to have Jason a few years ago, and he was a HUGE hit with our attendees. He weaves beautiful gospel truths into his hilariously funny keynotes. Jason, if you're reading this, a big "Howdy!" from one of your many fans, Cindy Paskett. ❤️😍

I am so glad I listened to this. I am going to remember that. We keep promises, not goals.

One of the best public speakers I heard was Andy Andrews. He was a comic originally, opening for Joan Rivers, Arsenio Hall and Bob Hope. Then he went solo. He took that career into book writing, publishing the Storms of Perfection series about failures in celebrity lives. He then became a motivational speaker doing business conventions. He now has more books published along with a PBS series and syndicated radio shows.

I LOVED that!!!! What if God only had a goal of helping us reach Eternal Life and Exaltation instead of a promise? WOW 🤯

Thank you Greg, just want to say the reason I listen to you is because of your clarity. You have helped my understanding of things so much thank you. I also appreciate your passion and generosity in sharing that which you consider helpful to our faithfulness to the Lord. Or after what Jason shared that you shared, your posts help me keep my promises with God and I have shared things that you have taught with others and it has helped them also.

Loved this conversation, and I went into it wondering, “who is this guy, and why is Greg talking to him…” lol

I have been asked to speak in sacrament meeting next month. I am pretty terrified. This is timely advice. Thank you!

Jason!! How in the world did you and Greg make this mash up happen? So neat to hear how much your career has evolved over time. Those early days of straight comedy were gold…don’t sell yourself short! But boy it’s amazing to hear what you do now. Great advice too about how to practice speaking skills. So relatable about keeping teens awake 😂

As soon as I saw him and heard him speak I said to myself, I bet that’s John Hewlett’s son. I had to Google him and sure enough, that’s who he is. Great interview. I hate making goals and making promises are so much better because who wants to break a promise?

Great interview, great guest I’m gonna use Jordan Peterson fan myself for the same reasons. I think your guest would be extremely pried to learn that Joe Rogan is the most popular podcast in the world because he’s probably the best interviewer to ever have lived. I understand that his language, and even some of his guests can be quite course but if someone can suffer through that, it’s fascinating to watch a person, facilitate a four hour conversation with a psychology, professor, MMA, fighter, or just a friend.

If someone wrote me a speech, I can give it... if I have to write one, it never delivers the way I hoped it would. I have a plethora of ideas, getting that onto paper as fast as I think is so impossible.

Please don't use the word "paper"...
That word doesn't appear in the Book of Mormon.
Samuel the Lamanite explains how to deliver a talk...Helaman 13:3.
"But behold the voice of the Lord came unto him that he should return and prophesy unto the people whatsoever things should come into his heart."
When I'm listening to a speaker, I am not interested in what is on their paper. I want to know what is in their heart.

Who is this Jason guy? Why make a goal instead of a promise? Because those are two separate things for a very important reason. Goals you strive for, promises are not to be broken. Anyone who wants to make tons of promises instead of a goal is setting themselves up for a diminished value in all of the promises they make. A promise should be something very, very serious. Not taken lightly. That way it keeps it's value. We dilute so many important words in our world today. It might sound neat to say "why make a goal when you can make a promise", but that dilutes the value. And again, it conditions people to be OK with breaking a promise since Noone keeps all of their goals. There is a place for striving/goals, and a place for promises. Leave it that way.
