Great episode , the water leaking in will be the the drian bags for the roof at each side the rear parcel shelf they have a plug hole type drain right at the bottom which can get clogged, then you have to remove the rear engine bay air vents and you will see the other end of the plug hole from the drain bag this also get clogged , & what i did with my car was to take both seats out and the carpet 'took 20 min ' the left the carpet near a boiler for a few days to dry ' warn not hot ' 👍🏻👍🏻🍺

Did you get to the bottom of the water leak? If these are like an MX5 the roof will drain into a plastic tray that runs around the inside perimeter of the rear of the roof into side tubs with pipes that drain down into the lower rear quarter panels aft of the doors and then out into the sills. The drains get clogged with dirt and rubbish and then the water backs up and overspills into the rear shelf area and then follows gravity and runs down into the seat pans. You can clean the drains out with a huge plastic zip tie or something similar as it won't scratch or pierce anything. Worth looking under the carpets to see if its been doing it for a while.
