I love this father and son collaboration whilst working on your smart car. I have recently bought a Smart fortwo mhd and have been watching lots of videos so as to see what all the common problems are. I am finding all the videos very informative. I grew up tinkering with motorcycles and their engines. I'd love nothing better than to carry out all these jobs on my car only for some reason I developed Ms when I reached 40 and am now 63. Keep up the good work, and look after your dad,he is a true rock.
Forte ! - Quality stuff from Eden Vale SA, used it on my Fiat Panda 1.2 with VVT, restored the performance, after a flush and clean the Oil control valve. Nice to hear you pronounce the Febi - Bilstein name correctly !
Good vid. I see you cleaned up the gauze filter for the oil drain bolt. On close inspection mine had began dissintergrating from the frame that supports the gauze. Flakes of it were inside the bottom, black material either plastic or metal. So I got a new one put in. Something to keep an eye on I suppose.
IMPORTANT: The self adjusters are handed for each side, one has a left hand thread and the other a right hand thread. If these parts have been mixed up at some point the adjuster will not work, and this is a common fault. The left hand side of the car needs the adjuster with the right hand threads and vice versa.
Correct 😁 and they handily say L and R on them - this one has gone wrong as the tag has broken off (alas it has now been replaced) - but absolutely good advice and handy to know if people are reading / doing the job themselves
Thank-you for the video very educational experience shone from no1 dad just sad it was so dam cold always thumbs up.Jon can l be nosy and ask you what you do for a living and why did you not follow in your dad’s shoes as a mechanical engineer posh title
Thanks for watching Daniel. I'm a Police Detective in my 'real life job' (not a secret so always happy to share) - being on the tools wasn't for me. I enjoy it as a hobby 😁👍
I've been sat here for about 5 minutes trying to work out if we have used it on the Purple Smart and I don't think we have! We have used OBD2 on it before and it works so I can't see why not. Maybe we will have to try 🙂👍
Fingers crossed we have solved that EML light fault. Thanks to Sam for his help and to you for watching 😁

Oh excellent to hear it comes well recommended. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Well done Jon and Pete a brilliant video as ever and fingers crossed it solves the problem!
Thanks Daniel. Spoiler alert. We still have a problem 🥺
😂 we don't have winters like we used to 😂 it's cold enough for me. Nice bit of tinkering "dad" let's hope it's fixed now.
Im glad about that! Spoiler alert ... the light is back on
Cars, bit like women, temperamental things😂

Good job you caught it 😀
So did it get above zero during the video, brrrrrrr. They make em tough in Lincolnshire. Hope you get the eml sorted. Camera was very good.
Sadly not! Was -1 all day minimum. Sad news is ... It's been on a few times since.
@ Chilly day 🥶 New sensor time I suppose.
Sadly so
I sat through an engineering meeting today. All I could think of was "time wasting waffle". 😂
And was it?

@JonCoupland Be very careful about the L and R idents, it's been claimed this relates to the thread, not the side of the car. Always check the thread!
Good advice too
Lovely jobly 😄
Thank you! Cheers!
Found that fault on them was low on engine oil or needed the oil changing. Aygo can do a very similar one
We're hoping the oil change does the trick ... But spoiler alert. That lights been ok again 😭
Are you feeling the cold more. I find when I lose weight I notice the cold a lot.
Very much so. I was always very hot all year round and pretty much lived in jeans and a t-shirt ... Now. Not so much 🤣

9:17 it’s awful if you’ve never had it off 🤣🤣🤣
Hi will that Kingbolen Scanner read the older smart car? the 450?

@@JonCoupland Please do let me know, as it's difficult to find an OBD reader that can clear faults on older Smart models.
8'34" "OH NO IT ISN'T!"
😉 oh yes it is
I don't think the previous owner changed the filter....
I agree 👍
Nightmare Orange?
🤣 pretty much
Those engines sound truly awful on camera. But then, so do a lot of V8s.
